I have used 2 batteries since I got my 50D about 18 months ago. They always hold up for a whole day of shooting. The real test was during a trip to France where I took about 3000 shots over less than 2 weeks. Shooting by day and downloading the pix at the end of the day, usually on the same battery. It's been great until lately, I noticed that the charge level drops pretty fast and I often have to use the back up battery fairly early. I am estimating these batteries have gone through about 12,000 shots; maybe I am being greedy but I was expecting longer life. I rarely use the live view mode; maybe 1/3 to 1/2 are sot as jpeg/raw files full size. I usually use the batteries until they go flat, maybe that has something to do with it. I read some place that lithium batteries should not be completely depleting before recharging, who knows! I am due for another set of batteries soon. I have checked reviews on after market batteries. Some are real inexpensive, but seems that quality is not constant, meaning you might have a 10% chance of getting a defective one and not find out it's gone bad after a couple of months of use. The "brand name" after market battery is cheaper and has fairly good reviews but [...] you only save 10 bux. So I'll stick with Canon.

I shoot with a Canon 5D very regularly, and I want a battery that lasts the whole day, at least. This battery wears down very quickly over the period of 6 months. I have 6 of these batteries and 4 of them die in about 30 minutes. However, the Canon factory made bats beat the generic batteries, so I don't really have a choice.

I tried the off brand and came back to Canon immediately. Holds a charge better and lasts for years.

Comments about Canon BP-511A Lithium-Ion Battery (7.4v 1390mAh):
Tried other non-Canon batteries on my (old) 5D, and kept wondering why I had to recharge them so often. Replaced with new Canon batteries, used them on assignment for three straight days (and I shot a lot of frames!)...the power level is still full, no need to recharge. Ain't nothing like the real thing (baby).

Comments about Canon BP-511A Lithium-Ion Battery (7.4v 1390mAh):
I have purchased many batteries since the purchase of my camera. Over the last year, I have
had a least three purchases of two batteries each that have worked well the first time; but, had very minimal charge time for use after first initial charge...very disappointing...and concerning. I use two in a bettery grip. We travel and I take a consider amount of images.
Anyone having the same problem with Canon Brand
Batteries..They are not cheap...

I have 4 of these now, so that I always have enough power at a shoot. A few were getting old and still work but don't hold as long of a charge.

My old battery was falling short at colder temperatures. Charged this new battery, put in fridge for an hour to chill to 38 degree's, put into 5D, finally camera indicated full charge at low temperature.

I have not tried any other battery, but this one works like the original, which lasted me faithfully for 7 years! The price difference? Whatever. I would rather have Canon's reliability.

I just got this battery and the power is great. I have had many but they were all going dead, after years of use. This battery held a charge and I was a ble to shoot a whole 8 hour wedding without replacing it.

Comments about Canon BP-511A Lithium-Ion Battery (7.4v 1390mAh):
Having used the BP-511A with my Canon 300 and now my 50D I have used both the Canon battery and the non Canon battery. My experience is that the Canon battery lasts longer and holds a charge longer at the end of its shelf life than the non Canon battery.

Comments about Canon BP-511A Lithium-Ion Battery (7.4v 1390mAh):
1. On photography trips in sub zero temperatures (up to minus 70 degrees F) or extreme heat and humidity (equatorial/tropical summers), this battery (and camera) have worked extremely well with little additional insulation except the camera bag.
2. Easy to install, quick to recharge and the recharger is suitable for 100v-240v - great for travels.
3. The Canon brand battery is not readily available in stores and cheap knockoffs (not lithium ion battery) are being sold. Does not do justice to the great camera!

Comments about Canon BP-511A Lithium-Ion Battery (7.4v 1390mAh):
My biggest concern here was authenticity with this battery. I'd looked at a lot of them on [@]and many people complained about getting fakes. I trust B&H, so that's why I bought here. The battery held up great during a full day of shooting. I was swapping it with another battery, and I would charge up the one that was drained and then switch again. I am fully satisfied with the product and believe that it's genuine.
