Lastolite EzyBalance Gray Card
The Lastolite EzyBalance Gray Card is a revolutionary tool ideal for adjusting color balance and exposure settings in both digital and film format cameras, as well as DV cams. The EzyBalance gives accurate color rendition to cameras by providing a pure white surface upon which the camera can perform a white balance.
The reverse side of the EzyBalance provides an 18% gray card surface suitable for adjusting the camera to get the most accurate exposure setting. Conventional methods of exposure control consist of using large gray cumbersome cardboard that is easily stained and over time becomes dog-eared, posing the risk of taking incorrect exposure readings. By design, the EzyBalance folds to just a third of its 12" opened round size making it infinitely more convenient and allowing it to fit into a small bag or pocket.

I purchased the Lastolite 12" EZ Balance after looking at virtually every white balance system I could find. For some years now I have been using the small QPCard for white balance. While I am happy with the results from the QPCard, the small size has made it difficult to use in some situations. The 12" EZ Balance is an ideal compromise between size and usability. It is large enough for studio use, yet portable enough for location use. It collapses down to 5-inches and stores in its heavy-duty 6-inch zippered case. That it is among the lowest cost solutions of this size is a bonus.
Some experimentation shows that the EZ Balance white side matches the QP Card white patch precisely in color. A custom white balance from one will exactly match the other. I was surprised at just how close these two are, but take that as a good sign.
The construction seems good. The wire folding ring is strong and about 10mm wide. The material has a rubbery feel, is thick, and very opaque. The stitching looks to me like typical surged double stitch, not perfect, but not inordinately sloppy either. It appears strong enough that I would bet on the material wearing out before any stitching gives way. The case is a very heavy nylon with an appropriately gauged, smooth zipper.
I cannot comment on the longevity of the colorant used for this material, but would guess that with proper care and storage, it will last for some years.

Used this for post color correction. Good size, durable and compact. The post color adjustment was close for skin tones, but not perfect using DPP and RAW white balance from shots of both gray and white side of car under Vivitar 285HV lights in my studio. Try the Expodisc if you shoot portraits outdoors or indoors in odd light, it's less fuss.

I added this to my bag and I have seen nothing but excellent results. My color balance is bang on now. I am ordering the 20" model of this for the studio, so I can keep this one full time in my bag. Results are excellent and it collapses into an easy to manage carry pouch. Build quality seems good, also. I would gladly recommend this item.

Folds to compact size and stores in case with loop that I can hang from my belt. Very good for setting white balance for macro shots and for difficult backgrounds, e.g., table-top light tent; macros of insects on white painted barn wall, etc. Also the back side is white which make it useful as a fill-in reflector to lighten problem shadows.
