The Beachtek DXA-2S offers a reliable way of connecting professional audio gear with any of the current crop of DV camcorders, to enjoy the benefits of using balanced audio. Two sources may be recorded simultaneously, and each input may be recorded on a separate audio track, making it possible to mix both channels individually during editing. Timecode feeds may also be input during recording.
The shielding, channel separation and XLR connectors of the DXA-2S are all of a professional quality, and a ground switch enables selection of the appropriate ground configuration for virtually any camcorder.

As A/V suppliers for The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, we are often called upon to supply camera and operator for IMAG presentations in the Museum's Sam Noble Special Events Center. We frequently tape events for archiving and the DXA-2S makes our setup much easier. We simply come out of a line level sub-out from the house console into the DXA-2S in mono for pristine audio.
For remote taping, the stereo mic preamps are employed, one for the interview subjects' lavalier mic and the other for a boom mic. The preamps are clean and have plenty of headroom.
The only oh-so-minor drawback to this product is the fact that a flat-blade screwdriver is required for mounting and dismounting, but we leave the unit on our camera at all times, so it's not much of an inconvenience, far outweighed by the product's positive aspects.
A great product for the price!

Out of the box this product seemed like a perfect fit for my HVR-HD1000U. However, I quickly realized one big issue that has rendered the product virtually useless. My camera's mini mic plug provides phantom power to the mic attached to the camera. However, that phantom power is not transfered to the XLR adapter. So, when I plugged my camera mic into the adapter I got NOTHING. When I tried using an RE-50 Mic plugged in through the XLR adapter I got NOTHING. Basically, if your mic isn't supplying power its not going to work. If you're plugged into a press event using an XLR cable and their output doesn't supply power then you're screwed. So essentially, I can't use an on-camera mic and my wireless at the same time using this adapter unless I change my on-camera mic to one that takes a battery and provides its own power. This is really disappointing considering my camera's phono mic input does provide phantom power yet the Beachtek adapter doesn't make use of it.

Comments about Beachtek DXA-2S - Dual XLR Universal Microphone Adapter for Camcorders:
As advertised. We added this product to our new video camera and it works perfectly. We take an audio output from our sound mixer board at church and send it to the video camera via the BeachTek device. It provides very good quality audio recording on the camera and it's synchronized with the video.

Comments about Beachtek DXA-2S - Dual XLR Universal Microphone Adapter for Camcorders:
I use it on a couple of different compact cameras including the Canon Vixia HF S10, and it works great on all of them. I like being able to transfer it to different cameras or recording devices as needed, like a tiny, portable mixer. The only way I would improve this product is making the centering peg spring-loaded (like on a tripod camera mount) instead of fixed. A minute or two with a sturdy file takes care of this minor annoyance however.

Comments about Beachtek DXA-2S - Dual XLR Universal Microphone Adapter for Camcorders:
It does the job its expected to do. I wish Beachtek would offer a model of the same size that also supplies phantom power via a 8V battery. That or simply redesign this model so when you plug in the phono plug to a camera that provides power through the phono plug you get phantom power to your XLR mics. I'd gladly pay an extra $100 for that option. I use this with the Sony HVR-HD1000U and not having phantom power can sometimes be a pain. I had to buy a seperate on-cam mic that uses a AAA battery in order to use this adapter.

We use this in combination with our Canon HG10 and Azden SGM 2x shotgun microphone, works beautifully. Two channels, one output along with an AUX jack (easy to check sound this way) and it's all compact. So you don't have to worry about it sticking out from underneath even a consumer level camcorder.
Also tested with a Shure wireless mic, worked just as well. No interference at all.

Great product for the price. Pretty much makes the Sony HVR-HD1000U acceptable for pro use. Now, why the camera was not built with XLR connectors.....

Comments about Beachtek DXA-2S - Dual XLR Universal Microphone Adapter for Camcorders:
Small company shooting product videos using Canon HV20 and Shure PGX Lavalier mic, before adding the BeachTek DXA-2S I was using the stereo mini-jack connected to the line out on the receiver with a 10' unbalanced cord. Resulting sound was sub par, "hot" is the word to describe the sound. After adding the DXA-2S BeachTek Adapter and a Hosa balanced XLR cable the sound was clean and sounded more "professional" - sound that's a great compliment to the outstanding video quality. To tweak it a bit more I added the Yamaha MG102c mixer - maybe overkill but the sound is great. Possible drawback on this unit is lack of phantom power but for this particular application this unit is outstanding.

This little black box does what it claims and turns unbalanced sound into balanced, dual-mono ultra-clean audio! I am very impressed with the sound quality I'm getting from this instrument and its ease of use. Wish I had it when first starting out!

Comments about Beachtek DXA-2S - Dual XLR Universal Microphone Adapter for Camcorders:
I ordered this adapter so I could use two lavaliere microphones to create good audio for a DVD product for my clients. All I had to do was attach it to the base of the camera and attach to tripod, plug it into the camera on the microphone jack, connect the cable from the adapter to my laptop with editing software via firewire and I was good to go.
I was skeptical when I was told it was that easy, but it is. For quality video production you make yourself with more than one person, it is a must have.

Comments about Beachtek DXA-2S - Dual XLR Universal Microphone Adapter for Camcorders:
This device was recommended to me by a sound engineer friend of mine. As soon as I complained about the drab audio from my HD camcorder he pointed me directly to the Beachtek device. It's a real solid piece of equipment and everything connects well. I end up with nice full sound on my camcorder now that I can patch in higher quality mics. The only thing lacking on the DX-2S is the lack of phantom power. This might have been something to consider. Having a mixer handy resolves this.

This is a great product for overcoming the inadequacy of your standard camera mic. For a basic application it's great. It would be nice to have a LED read out of the mic level to ensure that you are getting a quality signal since many basic hand held cameras are not equipped with that feature. Over all its a excellent upgrade.

I purchased this Adapter after researching the advantages of Beachtek vs Juicedlink. I finally decide the Beachtek was the one, based on the fact that: #1 I received a nice email immediately after asking Beachtek for info, and #2 B&H carries Beachtek and I trust B&H! I use this with my Sony 1000u and have gotten some awesome audio.

I have two prosumer sony camcorders and this bridged the gap for me between prosumer and professional camcorders. I can have professional mics interface with my camcorders now. This box works exactly as it says. It's a real time and money saver. I'm VERY satisfied. I have no gripes with this product except it's a bit pricey.

Accepts xlr microphone and adapts it to work with your camcorder microphone input. You can do two inputs at the same time and have volume input for each side. I use them to plug into Three different Sony HDV camcorders.

Comments about Beachtek DXA-2S - Dual XLR Universal Microphone Adapter for Camcorders:
I've been filming live musical performances on a Canon HV20 and using a Sennheiser ME 66 shotgun mic. As you can imagine with live musical performances audio levels can vary. In order to adjust the levels without the DXA-2s Microphone adapter you would have to go into the menu settings on the camera. Now with the DXA audio level adjustments are right at your fingertips. The price is cheap and it is a easy remedy to get professional audio without having to spend a lot on a professional camera.

SONY HVR-HD1000U USERS ATTENTION!!! This item is't compatible with the HVR-HD1000U included shotgun microphone, only with any handheld mic, line or any other battery powered shotgun mic.
Note: The HVR-HD1000U doesn't have phamtom power, but the included mic doesn't use any battery to operate. I recommend to purchase the MIX-2 PASSIVE MIXER, but you will have to purchase any xlr female to 1/8 male adapter to operate. The others bechtek xlr adapters are very unconfortable to use with this camera especially in the shoulder

I have only used this device a couple of times. Once for a wedding video. I was able to easily connect via xlr to the sound system, set the mono switch. The G1, G2 switch eliminated all noise. It was easy to mount to the tripod and connect to my Canon HV-30 camcorder. The adjustable gain knob is a nice feature to quickly make adjustments while taping.
