When I bought my Canon G9, I decided to skimp on the battery that I bought. It was a cheap battery made by a company called Merkury. Half of the time, the battery doesn't even work correctly. It will be fully charged and read as empty when I put it in the camera.
I go out on long backpacking expeditions where I need to know that the batteries I'm carrying will hold their charge for a long time--I don't have anywhere to recharge them. I purchased two of these batteries recently to replace the Merkury. Since then, I've been on a 14 and a 5 day expedition without any stress regarding the life of my batteries. Where I would scramble in the past to make sure that the camera was only on while I was actually taking the picture, now I will take time to adjust settings, so that the picture turns out better and my quality of life is higher on the trip. Sure, it's a little bit more expensive than other batteries out there, but peace of mind and a higher quality photos are recompense enough for me.

Purchased a spare camera store brand battery for my XTi a few years ago. It never lasted as long as my orginal Canon battery even though it was 750mAh and now its dead. My orginal battery is still going strong so I'm sticking with the orginal Canon brand from now on.

I use the batteries inside a BG-E3 battery grip, two at a time. The battery grip is attached to a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi.
I also keep two of these batteries in reserve while I am out with my camera, in case the two batteries inside the grip run down.
I like that the batteries are made by Canon, and that they come with protective covers that you can turn one way to remind yourself that the batteries are charged, or turn the other way to show that the batteries need a recharge. (That system depends on your ability to use it, though. It's not automatic.)
The battery is kind of small, but that's not a problem, because my camera requires a battery of this shape and voltage.

I use these batteries in 5 Rebel XTi cameras for in-flight remote controlled photos during hot air balloon flights. The batteries are not fully discharged during operation, and as such are probably not being ideally used, however the NB-2LH units hold power and have a much lower memory than cheaper generic brands. I have also purchased generic units that either fail completely, or have such strong memory issues that they display half discharge by the time the camera is being mounted in its cradle. I now only go genuine with my power supply!
