The Bogen/Manfrotto 055MF3 provides professional photographers with a "beefier" tripod that's still light in weight, simple to use, strong, and extremely versatile to position.
Without compromising on stability or rigidity of the tripod, the 055MF3 consists of carbon fiber legs that feature quick action lever locks in magnesium and resin. In addition, the design of the 3021PRO series top spider which offers four leg angle settings is also used with this model, and it allows for the center column to be converted into a lateral arm.
The center column itself is of the latest generation of aluminum and resin materials. The low-angle adapter forms the top section of the center column and is easily detached by simply unscrewing the knob at the bottom of the column. This enables the head to be left mounted on the center column when switching between low-angle and normal shooting positions.

I'm using the tripod for portrait photography (both on location & studio), and the weight + ease of use work very well. The carbon legs require a little bit of hard pulling to extend, but I anticipate that they will slide more easily with normal use. The tripod is light, and the strap which contains the handle is more useful than I expected. Originally, I was going to remove it. Two features that this tripod does very well require the center post to be removed: The vertical post can be secured in a horizontal configuration, or can be removed to allow room for the legs to drop very close to the ground. Both positions maintain a stable base to work.

I use this tripod at the beach, hiking and around home. It's light, has good footing, easily adjusted, rugged and well built. The center post comes out easily to set up for side and overhead shooting. It feels strong enough to support a lot of weight.Adjusts to near ground level.Nice carrying handle.
I havn't found anything wrong with this tripod and as well built as it is I don't think I will.

Comments about Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging 055MF3 Magfiber Pro Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod Legs:
Have used this tripod for approximately one month now and have to say that it certainly exceeds my expectations. Am amazed how steady the tripod is even with the center post extended and my 70-200 f2.8 mounted on it. I am 6'4" and it so refreshing to have a tripod that will adjust to my eye level. Used mostly outdoors , the legs adjust quickly when leveling is needed. The legs were a little "sticky" at first but slide more smoothly as they get broken in. Built-in carrying strap is a snap to secure and very easy on the hands when carrying it between setups. Build quality of this tripod is excellent [...]

Comments about Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging 055MF3 Magfiber Pro Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod Legs:
Using the 055MF3 for Nature-wildlife Photography, its light weight is important. I particularly like the variable-angle settings for the individual legs, especially for quickly leveling it on rought ground, as opposed to the slower adjustment of leg lengths. For closeup shots, the ability to bring the camera to nearly ground level, shooting either horizontally or aimed downward, proves very valuable. The center post was not as smooth at movement as I'd like, but it appears that it is smoothing out with use. Excellent tripod for my use.

Comments about Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging 055MF3 Magfiber Pro Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod Legs:
I use the tripod for all aspects of photography from macro low to the ground to full height posed portraits. I am tall (6'3") and can easily have a camera at eye height and stable. This tripod is easy to use and set up, light weight for it's size and rock solid. Carry handle is convenient for carrying and to use to add weight for stability. It does everything I want it to and does it well. For ground level shots I can use either the post horizontally with the legs spread or the low angle adapter. The newer version of this tripod has an easier and quicker to use horizontal column but was not worth the the higher price.

This is the first professional/nice tripod I have owned. Seems very well constructed and light weight. Motion seems like it could be improved a little that is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. B&H is great!

Comments about Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging 055MF3 Magfiber Pro Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod Legs:
I love to shoot in low light and just wasn't happy with the sharpness of my pics....until I got wise and invested in a decent tripod. Wow! not only better pics but frustration level way down re: adjusting height; orientation; panning ect. Yes, the ballhead was another investment and I feel like I'm having a whole new picture taking experience.

This is a great tripod for my Pentax DSLR. The carbon fiber legs are light. I see no flaws at all with this product, and I prefer 3 leg sections to the newer 4 sections. Get a padded bag big enough for the tripod head also (nom. 35 inches) and you are good to go.

As always B & H [...] at very competitive prices with top notch products. This tripod is recommended by several pro photographers and is a sensational value. Unless you're a backpacker you don't need to spend $500 or more for a pro quality tripod. Buy this.

Comments about Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging 055MF3 Magfiber Pro Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod Legs:
I have owned this tripod for a few weeks now. It feels very sturdy and well built. I upgraded from an old PSI aluminum tripod and the difference is like night and day.
The only 2 things about this tripod I would list as cons is the legs aren't smooth to extend and I would have thought the tripod would have been lighter. I have never owned a true carbon fiber tripod so this may not be an issue for others.

Haven't yet but will use the tripod for outdoor shots. Like the ease of setting up and closing down. One negative comment I frequently heard about this product was the legs sticking or hard to pull out. Mine seem fine. Thanks.

Comments about Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging 055MF3 Magfiber Pro Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod Legs:
I use this tripod with the 486rc2 head to shoot indoor dance performances with nikon d80 & 80-200 2.8. The tripod is light enough to carry around while offering a very stable base for what I do. The legs are adjustable very easily even in a darkened theatre - leveler is not easy to see in dim light; that is a nit though. With camera mounted, I had hoped that the vertical extender would have moved much more smoothly.

This is a fantastic tripod and it is very well made. I like this over the 055MF4 because it has less leg sections (meaning less points of failure). On the other hand, its collapsed size is a bit longer.

I feel that the tripod has good quality and is strong in all ways.
It is really stable, and versatile.
It is a little heavy but I think that´s a good thing, becouse it makes it more stable.
