The Audio-Technica AT2020 is a cost effective studio condenser microphone intended for vocal and general instrument capturing in project and professional studio environments. The capsule features a 16mm low-mass, side-address diaphragm with a cardioid polar pattern. The cardioid pattern is effective in rejecting ambiance and noise at the off-axis sections of the microphone capsule. A linear frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz enables the flexibility to accurately reproduce signals from any source. High SPL handling and wide dynamic range allow the AT2020 to capture loud signals with minimal noise and distortion. The microphone includes a pivoting, threaded stand mount for accurate positioning.

This is a very good, very cost-effective mic for voice-overs. Nothing gets that big, rich, round, commercial sound like a large diaphragm condenser. Not only do my VO's sound great but clients are always impressed that I have this professional-looking mic. You might look at the AT2035 which has some great features and includes the shock mount but you can't beat this for the price.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT2020 - Condenser Microphone:
Nice and thick in the middle where most male singers will like. Maybe a little heavy on the lows, but 3 places in my chain have hi pass filters, so WE ARE GOOD. Not quite as heavy as some other reviewers made it out to be, but still seems to be tough. Mine will be mostly studio use, so I don't have much live show feedback for you.
Good mic, and at B&H the price is definitely right!

Comments about Audio-Technica AT2020 - Condenser Microphone:
First off B&H experience top notch. I got this mic for a simple starter home studio and I'm loving it, price was great and it performs like expected. My only complaint is that the protective foam for shipping should fit into the carrying pouch for added protection during transit. Just my opinion though.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT2020 - Condenser Microphone:
For the price of this microphone, which was a considerably better price at B&H, this is a surprisingly heavy duty condensor mic that I'm finding very useful for overheads for mic'ing drums so far. Great buy!

I use this mic for voiceover work, interviews and other spoken word applications. It delivers a clean, transparent sound. A lot of bang for the buck, and the price at B&H was far cheaper than I found anywhere else. Definitely recommended.

Good range, sturdy construction. However, the shock mount for this mic is $60 - higher in cost than some other brands'. Great Budget microphone, but you better use a Pop Filter.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT2020 - Condenser Microphone:
I'm hard-pressed to think of another condenser mic that offers equal or better quality for the price. It's just simply a steal. It's sturdy, but not too heavy, making it a good choice for drum overheads. The flat response picks up all pieces of the kit without being harsh. On vocals it's solid, but for a few dollars more you will find a better & more open large diaphragm mic (AKG Perception 220, for example). For home use, just get a modest preamp & it will benefit you greatly with the AT2020 (e.g., the ART TubeMP). I dig.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT2020 - Condenser Microphone:
I am using the microphone to record my voice for work and private uses. I tested it against the Shure Headset WH20 and the Sennheiser e835. The ears told me that the AT2020 is the better mic. I did a "Reveal" analysis in Peak Pro 6 (shows the gain response vs. frequency). The AT2020 showed a wider frequency range response than either the Shure or the Sennheiser mics.
Before, I hated to hear my recorded voice. Now I can easily listen to it, even though I don't have the "Radio Voice".

Comments about Audio-Technica AT2020 - Condenser Microphone:
This condenser is a great value for female vocals, even running through a "cheap" focusrite saffire pre it does a great job at representing the facts. Do some research, and you will see that it has stood up to much more expensive mics in shootouts. Note that by nature side address condensers do not reject off axis noise well, so if you are using it in an untreated environment you might consider a reflection filter. Also plosives will most likely be a problem, so a pop filter is a must.
Overall, I would recommend this to anyone.
