The FireBox from Presonus is a six input, ten output FireWire recording interface that ships with recording software and provides a complete, compact computer-based studio for a Mac or Windows computer. It contains two high quality PreSonus microphone/instrument preamplifiers and can record with up to 24-bit/96kHz sample rate resolution.
The two ultra-low noise high-headroom microphone/instrument preamplifiers with 48V phantom power are on the front panel of the FireBox for quick and easy connection of microphones or instruments. The headphone output (which is counted as part of the output specification for the unit) has its own two-channel driver stream which can be used as a separate stereo bus or two-channel output. This provides the ability to send a "cue" mix to the headphone output and a main mix to the main output.
The included Cubase LE software features forty-eight audio tracks, VST plug-ins and full VSTi support along with professional editing capability. The software and all included plug-ins are compatible with both Mac and PC systems, and all Cubase LE sessions are completely upward compatible with both Cubase SX and Nuendo. The unit is also compatible with many ASIO/WDM and Core Audio based applications including Logic, Sonar, Audition, Digital Performer and others.
The FireBox also provides two channels of S/PDIF digital I/O and MIDI I/O via an included DB9 breakout cable. A software router/mixer is also included for further flexibility and power. The 1/3U-wide metal chassis of the interface is designed to fit the MAXRACK rack-mounting system from PreSonus and can be racked with other PreSonus preamp and effects processors for a compact computer recording system.
