The FireBox from PreSonus is a six input, eight output FireWire recording interface that ships with recording software and provides a complete, compact computer-based studio for a Mac or Windows computer. It contains two high quality PreSonus microphone/instrument preamplifiers and can record with up to 24-bit/96kHz sample rate resolution.
The two ultra-low noise high-headroom microphone/instrument preamplifiers with 48V phantom power are on the front panel of the FireBox for quick and easy connection of microphones or instruments. The headphone output (which is counted as part of the output specification for the unit) has its own two-channel driver stream, which can be used as a separate stereo bus or two-channel output. This provides the ability to send a "cue" mix to the headphone output and a main mix to the main output.
The included Studio One Artist software features unlimited audio tracks and 20 PreSonus native effects plug-ins and virtual instruments. The software and all included plug-ins are compatible with both Mac and PC systems. The FireBox is also compatible with many ASIO/WDM and Core Audio based applications including Ableton Live, Logic, Sonar, Audition, Digital Performer and others.
The FireBox also provides two channels of S/PDIF digital I/O and MIDI I/O via an included DB9 breakout cable. A software router/mixer is also included for further flexibility and power. The 1/3U-wide metal chassis of the interface is designed to fit the MAXRACK rack-mounting system from PreSonus and can be racked with other PreSonus preamp and effects processors for a compact computer recording system.

I am using this product to record voice overs for videos. It works great. I've been able to use it seamlessly with the adobe suites. Definitely worth the money.

Comments about PreSonus FireBox - 6 x 8 FireWire Recording System:
I am a freelance live-theater sound designer, and have supplemented my design fees by adding a rental package of equipment to run high-quality live sound on. The Firebox is a central part of that package, and has performed very well. It's simple to use, easy to troubleshoot when setups change, and does not require complicated installation when clients want to use the box but not my computer.
My only beef with the box is that in some configurations there is audible latency when sending MIDI information during playback, but that problem is corrected with the right settings adjustments.

Comments about PreSonus FireBox - 6 x 8 FireWire Recording System:
I use this primarily as a sound card for playback and gaming, the sound quality is extremely good for the price - controlled, focused low end and good detail. The top end is a little sibilant and hashy, but perfectly useable.
Mic pre's again sound quite good compared to other products at this price, my only complaint is the maximum gain is a bit low, but much preferable to a bleh sounding one with lots of gain.
Installation was easy (~5 min), with no problems.
I was pleasantly surprised by the closeness of the channel level matching on both the main out and headphone outputs at low levels (at least on this particular unit).
The controls feel solid, if a little closely spaced.

This little piece has 2 great preamps and its very small for what it carries.
you can easily create a mobile recording unit with a lap top and a Firebox - that’s it!!!
It even powered by the Firewire cable.

this thing is sweet, you can plug in you XLR speakers to it, run a mic through it, it puts hands on control over you audio apps, the only problem is if you are using a macbook pro, the macbook doesn't have enough juice to startup the firebox through the firewire 400 cable, you need the ac adapter to get it going, once it's running you can unplug the ac adapter and it will stay on but you need the ac adapter to get it started, i don't know if this if a flaw from presonus or apple, you can read more this problem here by googleing presonus firebox blue flashing light
