Perfect for counter weight
I use the Photoflex weight bag for a counter weight on my hair light boom. Can be adjusted for weight with sand, or water. Photoflex continues to impress me with their product line.

I purchased six from B&H 3 months ago... I only used four in my studio, two on each background stand. I filled them up hung them and that was it... they were never moved or bunked. I have found that one started leaking in only two months of use. And then about a month later another one started leaking. Good thing I didn't leave my paper back drop down to the floor!
The water weight bags are not expensive.... but 10x120 background paper is. I will not trust them left on stands filled for long periods of time any more.

Comments about Photoflex Counterweight Bag with Hook, Empty - 8.5 lb Capacity:
This weight is used to weigh down lighting stands. It is great for traveling because it can be emptied and folded flat. It can also be filled to what ever level is needed to do the job. It is great for holding lighting stands especially when using them outside where small amounts of wind can topple you lighting set up.

This counterweight bag is a great idea because you can fill it with water to your desired weight and empty the bag for storage and/or transit when you want. It comes with a metal hook to attach to a boom or the bottom of a lightstand.

Comments about Photoflex Counterweight Bag with Hook, Empty - 8.5 lb Capacity:
As advertised. I am not particularly convinced that this is a necessary item (I could also just fill a plastic baggy with sand to attach to my lightstand), but this certainly does the job and provides the weight to balance my stand. So, if you want to get a special counterweight bag this is a good one.

I have been using two of these to stabalize my background support system but it can just as eaisily be used to stabalize a light stand or tripod. It's cheap and can be filled with water so clean up is really easy and it can be packed quickly.

Comments about Photoflex Counterweight Bag with Hook, Empty - 8.5 lb Capacity:
I love the idea of this bag; small, convenient, nicely shaped with a hole to hang it by.
However, I filled it with water and put it on a boom arm on a light stand while setting up for a shoot. The light stand fell over and the entire seam on the side of the bag broke, spilling water everywhere.
The bag's total lifespan for me: about 90 seconds. I do not recommend.

Comments about Photoflex Counterweight Bag with Hook, Empty - 8.5 lb Capacity:
This is the best counterweight, both for the Studio or Location.
In the Studio I fill these up with Play Sand or Lead Shot, on location, I take them empty and I fill the up with Water.
They Pack Flat and can be filled up to about 8 Lbs!!
The Price isn't that bad either. Does exactly what other more expensive Sand Bags do, for a third of the price.

Had an assistant drop one filled with sand from about 1.5 feet up and it split open....ruined.
Handle with TLC....or stick to canvas.

I use these to stabilize light stands on traveling documentary shoots. So much easier than a sandbag. Just fill with water on site and empty when you're done. Comes with a hook to help hang it from things. And they pack small enough to fit in a light kit case.
I haven't had any problems with leakage although I've only had them a short time and I always empty when not in use.
One of my favorite pieces of gear because it's super portable but still does heavy work. Awesome.

Comments about Photoflex Counterweight Bag with Hook, Empty - 8.5 lb Capacity:
This is a counterweight as you see, and you fill it with water when using but it can be dumped for transportation. Very useful for location shoots.
The bag could be a bit bigger for heavier weight, especially because it's always easy to underfill.
This bag comes with a hook to hang the bag to the opposite end of a boom arm for counterweight, or at the bottom of the stand for stabilizing weight. However, it's not very easy to keep the hook with the bag. This area needs a bit of improvement. I use an elastic band to keep the hook in the hole at the top of the bag, but the band deteriorates so needs replacing every other month.
The bag is medium heavy weight material, but it could be heavier bag for more durability. It hasn't failed on me yet, though.

I travel a lot and these have come in handy, replacing my boom arm counterweight and my empty sandbags. I'm often stuck in hotels without access to a car or nowhere near a hardware store, so it's nice to have bags that I can just fill in the sink.
Sandbags were nice but I had the problem of emptying them and also of filling them by myself without making a mess.
I've used them a couple times already and own six of them. Only problem is sometimes the faucets are too close to the bowl but that's not a problem of the bag.

Add water, voila, instant weight bag. No need to lug around heavy sand bags now when traveling. Add and remove water quickly, and construction seems solid enough. Good bang for buck.

I prefer these to sandbags because they are so much more portable. Nothing heavy to carry to a location shoot. Just fill when you arrive and empty when you are done.
