I recently completed a visit to Glacier Park where I shot a varity of still photos and video. Although I took a tripod along, I found that I used the compact Bogen Monopod considerably more than my tripod. It was easy to switch the monopod back and forth from my still camera to my video camera. The compact size and light weight was perfect for traveling. The rugged design uses quick-locks for the leg extensions allowing infinite heighth adjustment.

It turned out to be so useful because it's SO MUCH lighter than a tripod, less bulky and you can adjust it to like 4-5 different heights - I'm 6' and it was perfect for me!

This is a light, well made and easy to carry monopod. I am using it to stabilize the camera and I find it perfect for the task. I read some other comments such as the one about the monopod not being strong enough for operating the shutter without shaking the camera and another one about not being sturdy enough to be used as a walking stick. My reaction to the former is that one can shake even a camera on a tripod but this can be easily avoided pressing the shutter button properly. As to the latter I agree: this is not a walking stick.
Since I bought it I have stopped using my older and heavier monopod.

Collapsed this is one of the shortest monopods I've ever seen and it fits inside my standard backpack. Easily stiff enough to steady low light shots from point and shoot still cameras and a superb match for my kodak zi8 or q flip type camcorder.
One caution, don't take as a carryon.,,some tsa folks consider it a billyclub and will not let you take it as carryon.,,funny since they allow tripods.

Comments about Manfrotto 790B Modo Mono 5-Section Monopod - Supports 2.2 lb (1 kg):
This monopod is the most compact one that I've been able to find, shorter than other models by nearly two inches and lighter as well. You'll find, though, that it provides significantly less stability because of that - its foot has a much smaller diameter than other monopods. However, that's the price you pay for the portability.

This is a no frills, compact, and lightweight alternative to a bulky standard tripod. Very simple to use and collapses into a quarter of its size when stored. Hardly weighs anything. Great buy, and affordable. No complaints here.

I am using this monopod with my canon rebel and 70-200mm f2.8 lens and this holds up well at the soccer field. Other soccer photographers have actually asked about this monopod for it's apparent stability, and I like how it compacts down to a packable size.

Comments about Manfrotto 790B Modo Mono 5-Section Monopod - Supports 2.2 lb (1 kg):
I normally use the monopod as support for my camera when taking photographs in awkward positions or in low light situations, like when dusk is falling. I love to photograph flowers and birds, so the monopod provides me a steady support when doing close up photography, and where a tripod would not fit. The differing heights attainable by extending just some sections, or partially extending sections makes it a very versatile tool, and also helps in getting shots over obstacles or when an overhead perspective is desired. The length of the monopod, combined with a remote shutter release and the autofocus feature of the camera can get the shot I would otherwise lose. Great for shooting around trees or over vegetation too high for a hand held shot.
The light weight, the multiple extension options, the quick release of the tension holders, and the easy packing of the monopod make it a delight to always carry. Now I can leave the Tripods in the car, and only haul them along if absolutely necessary. Great for panning action shots without worrying about loosening handles, or friction holders. Best of all is that there are no legs to trip on as I frame the shot.
There is nothing that I can say is not great about this monopod. I can even use it in very low light as long as I have something close to brace it to. I love it.

Comments about Manfrotto 790B Modo Mono 5-Section Monopod - Supports 2.2 lb (1 kg):
When I use the monopod to shoot what is straight ahead at eye level it is very useful.
It takes no more space than a folding umbrella and takes a few seconds to unfold to about 5 feet.
The problem is that there is no swivel and no tilt. It is useless in taking vertical pictures, or shooting anything such as the top of a building above, or a manhole cover below.
It is most useful for relatively candid portraits (since it is so quick to set up) right in front of you.
Conclusion: I'll have to pay more and get one that swivels.

I like the 5 sections monopod, which means it is short enough to pack into my camelbak when hiking.
It's light weight and steady enough to hold my 70 to 300 mm Nikon zoom lens for excellent steady photos. It's an excellent light weight monopod designed for exactly such purpose and very reasonably priced. If you need more, then you should carry a tripod.

I use this monopod with my D70/Sigma 70-200 f2.8 for concerts, school events, company gathering or whenever my other Manfrotto 434B monopod is over- sized for the event.
This monopod is lightweight and compact. It can be quickly expanded. This monopod seems to be sturdy enough to provide a sharp image without the aid of image stabilization. Overall, it is a good buy.
The only thing I will suggest is that sometimes I need to avoid to fully extend the last section since it is not as sturdy as other 4 sections. However, in most cases, this is not an issue.

I was looking for a lightweight compact monopod that would be easy to pack for a European trip. This seems just right. I'll be able to report back later this summer on how it performs.

I am a professional photographer and was looking for a light, compact monopod to take to a shoot in Greece. I am so happy I found this one, which was exactly what I needed. I have used it in several other foreign and domestic shoots. In addition to use as a camera support, I frequently use it as a portable lightstand. In this capacity it is in the hands of an assistant, who holds it at the level, direction and proximity needed.
