The Slik Pro 340DX is a complete all-metal tripod setup that's effective for lightweight travel duty when one desires a professional feel. The A.M.T. super titanium alloy legs make the Pro 340DX tripod rock steady yet lighter than it looks. The A. M. T. alloy has a 40% greater strength to weight ratio than standard aluminum, meaning the legs are lighter weight yet stronger than the standard metal used in most of today's tripods.

B&H had a great price for the tripod and free bag. Not a ball-head tripod, but at the price you could buy a ballhead separately and still not break the bank. The tripod is stable with my nikon D90 and 18-200 lens, including when the camera is tilted 90 degrees in portrait mode. It folds down small, and is quite light, but could be made lighter if you swapped out the relatively heavy pan head for a lighter ball head. The pan head works fine for me since I plan on using it for some pano shots. I would prefer that the quick release bracket had a better clamp mechanism. The locking lever just squeezes down on the bracket and it doesn't have a security 'latch'. The bracket is the only reason why I knocked 1 star off the rating. Otherwise, it has great usability... the legs can be set at 3 different angles including a wide splayed-out angle to get it low(you can remove the bottom half of the center column when you want it low). The castings are nice and solid, the leg extension clamps are secure, and it feels like a well-constructed product. I have only used the tripod on solid ground and in calm weather conditions, but it should be fine in the boonies unless it is windy or you have it tilted over a lot. It is a light tripod so you can't expect it to be rock-solid like a heavier model. I took some bracketed night-shots to try HDR, and the pics were sharp. When combined in HDR, there was no blurriness. I recommend this tripod highly if you are only looking to spend around 100 and don't need a pro-level tripod

I do like the product but in the vertical position it refuses to lock. I had to create a shim to keep it level. Otherwise all my pictures came out tilted. I would spend the extra money next time and go with Manfrotto or Gitzo.

The Slik Pro 340DX tripod is simply great! Not only will you not beat the price, it is sturdy for it's lightweight, the knobs all tighten just fine and it's other ajustments work quite well. The quick release attaches to the camera well and the the lever to secure it to the tripod platform is just right. I am totally satisfied with this product; it's lightweight, sturdy, easy setup and well built.

Very sturdy construction, easy to set up, the clip to lock in the camera is pretty tight and somewhat hard to use, otherwise everything is great, came with a great carrying bag

I really like the Tripod. For me, it took me a while to get used to it, because the legs are kind of hard to move it around. Anything else seems great. Its a great tripod for walking around.

I used the tripod while I was backpacking through Europe. I was traveling alone and wanted a way to take pictures of myself (instead of having my arm in the pictures and awkward angles). I also wanted to take some nice nighttime shots of landscapes and structures. I never noticed the extra weight because it is so light! It was perfect for my trip!

The quality of this tripod considering it's price range is awesome. Looks & feel durable, and advertised to carry a load of 8.8lbs. The only thing that really bothered me is when carrying/using it. It's not what you can call a "quick set-up" tripod & I found out that it's a disadvantage when in the out-doors. It might be more suitable for studio but not for backpacking. Before purchasing this product, consider first how are you going to use it.

Lighter than usual tripod at this price range.
However, a little shaky in a highly windy day.
But still, awesome tripod! Highly recommended for someone looking to get a tripod at this price range.

I'll have to admit I'm no expert on tripods but, in addition to all the positive things I have read about this product, my opinion is a positive one. First of all, surprise, this thing is actually made in Japan [*]. Everything about this tripod says quality to me. Very smooth operation, nice fit and finish. There is nothing bad to say about it.

Lots of adjustments, easy quick release, light and easy to carry. Suitable for a consumer DSLR or SLR with a prime lens. Not recommended for heavier telephoto lenses. Will not raise camera to eye level when used on the ground. Best suited to travel or table top photography, not a substitute for a solid working tripod. Quick release lever is vulnerable to accidental release.

It's light weight. Its supporting is just ok.
However there is nothing to complain. It's cheap.

Comments about Slik Pro 340DX Tripod (Black) with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head (Quick Release) - Supports 8.8 lbs (4 kg):
Had this for about 6 months & it gets the job done but I'm not thrilled with the stability. I would have gone with a heavier tripod but I bought it for travel and its light weight. Makes it portable but also more unstable. In weather and terrain, it tips and sways more easily.
- Great for travel & is lightweight.
- It's "Quick Release" but mine sticks a little so you have to really shake and pull to extend the legs the rest of the way (not as quick as I'd like)
- Pan/Tilt gets in the way and is probably for videographers mostly so I'm going to replace it.
- Is relatively flimsy at full extension and would not trust it in windy weather.
- Feels unstable on uneven ground with camera on it
- Long one piece center column
- Probably best used indoors
