This is one of the best lenses I have used to date, sharp through out even to the corners even wide open. nice small light weight and very well made lens. Has a nice 3d effect like most other pentax limited lenses. AF is fast but it's old style screw drive with a bit of noise. This lens is VERY well made and feels great.
The only sore spots ( there are a few ) are lack of damped focusing ring, it's nice you can manually focus it any time the AF isn't active but you can over throw the ring easily. Next for low light use there is no mount position indicator ( like the little green bulb on the 43mm limited ).
I would love to see a sdm update to this lens, then it would be perfect.

Yes, it's small, and very well made. But I didn't feel it was worth the money and sold it. Instead, I find my 50-135 2.8 outperforms it at all apertures, and is capable of much more compelling portraits. One thing I noticed was the high degree of color fringing--my 50-135 shows very little. After a frustrating portrait shoot, I realized that it's just not versatile enough for me. I would have preferred a larger, but faster version such as the other big manufacturers offer. With regard to sharpness, I found that performance was good, and even, but not stellar. As you stop down, the center improves little.
Everyone seems to lust after the Limited series, but I find that the optical compromises don't justify the cost.

Comments about Pentax SMCP-DA 70mm f/2.4 Limited Series Autofocus Lens:
This is a reason I own a Pentax DSLR. In the modern world of monster lenses it is still possible to have some pretty small photographic kit. My K-5 looks beautiful with this lens. They are made for each other. And this combination is almost pocketable. The lens feels and looks like high quality product. I am completely satisfied with screw-in hood and old style lens cap, which some people dislike. The hood should just be there all the time, the lens still remains very compact and you can squeeze your camera in Adventura 120 for example. The image quality is not disappointing either, though I can not evaluate it mathematically like professional lens reviewers. The only thing I can say is that the pictures look expensive and sharp. I have given 4 stars only because of noisy autofocus, though it's probably mainly a camera problem. A great lens to take children portraits.

Its known that the kee to great image quality shots is
1)the camera sensor quality/megapixel
2)the quality of lens.
if you have one with out the other you are waisting your time. This lens is the best out there for the Pentax cameras! fix focal length for ultimate sharpness, great light and compact design, excellent depth of field and low aperture that allows you to handle lower light conditions, the angle of view is perfect for portraits especially considering the X1.5 factor most digital cameras have. highly recommended.

Comments about Pentax SMCP-DA 70mm f/2.4 Limited Series Autofocus Lens:
Great everyday lens. It's a little long for using in close quarters, but other than that I find it more useful than a normal lens. It's on my K-5 most of the time. Great bokeh, makes beautiful portraits. Very sharp, even wide open. If you rely on autofocus, I've found in low light and close distances it sometimes hunts, and doesn't always get it right the first try. The build quality is great. It's very small. With this on the K-5 is still a very compact package.

I acquired in one time the three pentax pancakes. My use for this lens is for portraits and some products shots. The decisive factor is to be a small tele, 105mm equiv. on Pentax Land. When it came in my hands, I loved the size and weight of the lens.
The only one thing that I wonder it´s about the max aperture, but, well, the 77 limited is here for it =)
Sorry my poor english

Comments about Pentax SMCP-DA 70mm f/2.4 Limited Series Autofocus Lens:
This is a very compact lens that's very sharp from edge to edge. Construction quality is excellent and the f2.4 aperture is a handy compromise between small size and brightness. I've been using this lens in manual focus with a K-5 and split-image focus screen and find the combination very handy. The Pentax Limited lenses are a pleasure to use.

I OWN A PENTAX KR. I TRIED MANY LENSES FROM SIGMA AND PENTAX AND DECIDED THAT THE 70MM 2.4 LIMITED WAS THE BEST LENS FOR THE CAMERA. I HAVE TAKEN GREAT PHOTOS WITH THE LIMITED AND IT FITS THE CAMERA PERFECTLY. LOVE THE BUILD AND FIT & FINISH OF THIS LENS AND HAVE NO REGRETS. THE ONLY DOWNSIDE IS THE FOCUSING DISTANCE 0F 27.25 INCHES. I LOVE IT ANYWAY. LOOKING AHEAD TO PURCHASING THE 21MM LIMITED IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I HAVE PURCHASED ALL MY PHOTO EQUIPMENT FROM B&H AND I AM WELL PLEASED.

Comments about Pentax SMCP-DA 70mm f/2.4 Limited Series Autofocus Lens:
I love this lens. With the amazingly compact Pentax pancake trio (21mm, 40mm and 70mm) I can walk around with one on my K-5, and one in each pocket, and I don't even need a bag. This lens is wonderfully sharp, with great color rendering, and has the top build quality we have come to expect from a Pentax Limited lens. Has a unique pull-out lens hood, which gives it's own character amongst the Limited family. Highly recommended.

Very nice, I knew what I was getting before buying it so the fact that the depth of field is bigger than I'd like doesn't stop me from making great portraits with it. Recommended.

I am a mom of 4 little kids. They never stop moving and I love to photograph them. This lense takes increadible shots even when they are in motion. The bokeh is beautiful and I have been super impressed with th insane clarity and color that I get with this lense. I am still learning a lot about photography, but to my untrained eye this lends is increadible. I would highly reconend it!!

Comments about Pentax SMCP-DA 70mm f/2.4 Limited Series Autofocus Lens:
This lens is *exceptionally* small and very sharp. I have read that this lens design allows for sharpness across all f-stops, and although I have been backing off a stop (usually), that has been my experience as well. Paired to a K-5, I only half jokingly refer to my setup as the poor man's Leica (yes, I own a Leica too). Beautiful bokeh and build quality, to boot.

Best choice for portrait at Pentax DA Limited Series
Depth of field & sharpness very nice
Body quality excellent
Of course, colours are lovely Paentaxian Colours :)
Only missing point is F value. If F value is 1.4 or 1.8, this lens will be dreamy without arguing

This lens is great for portraits, sharp, nice bokeh and with beatifull color rendition.
Autofocus on k-r is really fast and accurate and it feel pretty solid.
Just one flaw, the minimun focus distance of 70cm make it hard to work on indoors.

Comments about Pentax SMCP-DA 70mm f/2.4 Limited Series Autofocus Lens:
Useful especially for portrait shots. Color and rendering matches well with the rest of the DA limiteds.
Optically nothing to fault but it may lack a bit of magic.
Exquisitely built but may feel a little filmsy compared to the FA limiteds and good old manual lenses.
Probably the most expensive DA limiteds around. Would quite overpriced in terms of what it gives. Would be bang-for-bucks if it were some $100-$150 cheaper.
