I just got the teleconverter lens for my Canon G7 two days ago and used it today for the first time at Wild Animal Park (part of the SD Zoo). It really made a big difference with the zoom reaching the animals and wildlife with very sharp results.
But you need to know 3 things about this product:
1) If you use the view finder to take pictures you won't see half of what you're shooting (the lens will block the view); you would have to use the lcd screen all the time, which consumes more battery.
2) When zooming out you will have only a circle of the image you are shooting and a black circular frame around it (here you'll be better off removing the lens).
3) You need the adapter to use this teleconverter lens, and that is sold separately.
These are a couple of things they don't tell you here and I believe you should be aware of that. Overall I am very pleased with the results and the camera even looks more professional with this lens.

tested with Sony DSC-H5 (require the adapter tube) with orwithout uv filter in between, AF fast and big aperture (80mmfront size, unlike those unbranded teleconverter with frontthread less than 70mm) , workable range 6X and above, easyto get blur background as per DSLR at telephoto side.
Problems Encountered: To put uv filter in between the teleconverter and adaptertube (no problem with tube alone), need to add another 58mmfilter without glass so that the teleconverter can bemounted, as it has longer rear thread but bottom half of itno line.No front thread, unable to add filter

Tested with Lumix fz28. This lens does not cause the iA confused like other 2x plus tele-converter. The auto-focus time is a littel bit longer than the Panasonic DMW-LT55, but not by much. The image quality is much better than the Raynox DCR 2025Pro.

Comments about Canon TC-DC58C 2x Teleconverter Lens:
I took this lens on vacation and it does pull the images in well and zoom was great when mounted to my Canon G9. When zoomed out (wide) though you do not get a clean image, but more so a picture shooting down a tube. This can be an interesting effect as a frame, but the same can be accomplished with any photo software.
I feel as though the lens should be a true 2X converter through the entire range of the zoom without loosing the edges and not just from the middle out. Although it is clear throughout the entire range.
Leaving the adapter attached makes it fairly quick and easy to remove when needed and I found myself doing this frequently (especially at the Gator's Spring kickoff game). But being zoomed too deep sometimes made it a little difficult to follow the players, although I did catch a really nice photo of a return punt in hang time.
Over all the adapter does perform well and I have been satisfied with the results. If you want to double your reach with nice results, the lens will serve it's purpose.

I carry my new Canon G9 camera everywhere and wanted this teleconverter for better long distance shots...it has provided that. Took shots without the converter and with to see the difference and like what I see so far...actually seems to make the camera a little more steady with the lens attached. And looks good on the camera! Not sure why the lens adapter is not part of the lens itself, or included with the lens as the lens can not be used without it. Only other negative thing is that the lens is very easy to come off the camera with a very slight twist...

So it is what it is. I bought this telephoto to attach to my Canon A650. Yes, you will need the adapter tube to attach this lens to your camera. Lens does exactly what it is supposed to do. Lens offers double the zoom and pictures are clear with no discernable distortion. You will need to zoom in quite a bit to avoid the vignetting. The lens is also massive and heavy. However all the bad aside, this lens complements my camera and allows me the opportunity to get shots that would otherwise not be possible.

Comments about Canon TC-DC58C 2x Teleconverter Lens:
This lens is remarkable. A must have, along with the WC-DC58B wide-angle converter. I enjoy scenic and wildlife photos and the over 400mm maximum length lets you get shots you would have passed up without it.
Pros:
Very sharp images
Good feel when mounted (attach to adapter before mounting on camera) Actually seems to improve the balance of the G9.
Cons:
Lens vignettes at about 200mm and gets worse the shorter you go. Cropped center of image is quite usable because of the 12M pixel file size of the G9 so you don't have to switch as soon as you might think.
Lens hood would be nice.

Bought this teleconverter to take pictures of far away objects, especialy birds, ducks, geese and other animals in general.
It extends the reach of my G9 without compromise on picture quality. I am pleased with it.
Could use a lens hood; wished Canon designed one for it.

Comments about Canon TC-DC58C 2x Teleconverter Lens:
What an outstanding addition to my G9. This has been a blessing for those situations where the camera zoom is just not enough. As with the G9 wide angle lens this one is also a must have. To be honest there have been several times that I would not have been able to get shot without it. This little gem has help turn several of my what would be good picture into excellent ones. Do yourself a favor and pick one up for your G9.

Comments about Canon TC-DC58C 2x Teleconverter Lens:
It takes a teleconverter to make my Canon G9 reach as far as my former S2, and of course you have to carry the extra lens. My final choice was between Raynox and Canon, and frankly I had used Raynox in the past and felt it was very sharp. I was concerned that the Canon teleconverter didn't cost as much as the Raynox converter--on the theory that you get what you pay for. But a B&H sales representative said Canon designed its converter especially for its products, so I went with it. It has excellent sharpness, as good as Raynox, and when I saw the quality and heavy build I knew there was no corner-cutting to achieve the lower price. Get the Lensmate metal adapter ring (in my case, the 58mm for the G9) so you don't strip the threads or break it. The Canon adapter is plastic.
