I was positively shocked when I bought a new Sony camcorder through and on-line auction house and also received this LCD hood shade. WOW, what a GREAT idea!!! It's for use outdoors when you want to see the LCD display, but the sun is so bright it washes out the screen.
The hood clips on the LCD display when it is open. It unfolds up (top cover) then you open the left and right side panels which creates a fabulous hood over the display. When you reverse the process, you notice all three sides have magnets which hold the panels in place. You can leave the hood on, by closing the screen with the LCD facing outward.
I was so excited, I located this hood at B&H and ordered a second unit for my other Sony camcorder. It also works on my Sony 2100. Great idea. Wish I had invented it. Sony and B&H need to market this better. Once you see it -- you'll buy it.

I was skeptical to purchase this for my Sony NX70U, but I gave it a try since it was for a 3.5" LCD panel. It fits great and it is high quality compared to other hoods. I previously had the Petrol and Hoodman that were a lot cheaper, but these brands were so cheaply made like cardboards. The Sony hood is a great purchase.

while on live chat w B&H folks I asked them to find out if this LCD Hood will work on HDR FX7?
After a few minutes the responded "Yes it will".
I purchased it. They were correct it works nice and looks great.It must be removed on this cam to close the LCD screen but so what, when I need it it will do the job.Thanks B&H folks.

The LCD Hood is great especially when you are out doors or in a bright lit area. I used it outside on the end of a 8 foot boom with a sony V1U and was still able to see the image from the base of the boom tripod. Folds up nicely also.

I didn't read this in the description, but the cover folds out and is magnetic to the sides, keeping it in place. I used it this weekend for a very bright sunny outdoor shoot and I could see the screen very well with this tool. Would recommend to anyone. I also agree with the other reviewer that it looks really good on the camera.
