The Lastolite HiLite Illuminated White Background is a unique way to achieve hi key photographs. This inventive system, allows the photographer to minimize lighting scenarios while achieving spectacular results.
The HiLite Background is different in that it permits you to place your strobe head INSIDE the background, completely directing the light to the background and filling it with white light. No more worrying about 'spill' or having to test to see if the background light is positioned correctly since the background will be evenly lit. Furthermore, because the background is actually illuminated it means the subject can stand virtually right in front of it without casting a shadow.
This system also works as a rear softbox and can illuminate your subject as well. This means you can simply use use one other light in the front and you're ready to shoot.

This is a very cool tool for any pro to add to their arsenal of light modifiers. I have been using this mostly as a large soft box as opposed to a high-key background but I've definitely tried it out as a background and it works great for both applications. Setup and breakdown is pretty simple and easy. I can do it by myself without any extra hands or help so that is pretty nice. The quality of light it produces is very even and soft and BEAUTIFUL!
I don't have any complaints really but if I did I would only say that the material on the front of the panel where the bounced light comes from is pretty thick so I have to crank up my strobes pretty high to get bright enough light out of it for the photo I've been shooting. Not a super huge deal though. Would still highly recommend this to anyone.

I have had to think a lot before buying this as for studio high key photography and thanks god I bought it. I am in love with it as much as my family and friends. I have taken stunning picture with and all of them were amazed. I also use it to take pictures by using it a big softbox. I use it with my Canon Flashlite 580ex II and it works really great. One last thing to say, make sure you watch youtube videos to know how to fold it because I almost broke mine trying to fold it for 30 minutes with no success even after watching the Lastolite's folding video to instruct how to fold it easily but it didnt work for until I have seen other peoples' videos.
I am happy with it.

Works good, unfolds great. The only thing I wish was it had strings to go with the sticks...it says you can tie it up in the instructions but I never found them. Maybe it's just me..dunno..but overall a fantastic product

You can place the subject as close to the background as needed. There are no background shadows. Makes selections easy since there is a crisp cut off between subject and background. Best of all the storage is not a problem since the HiLite is reduced to a small circle. For the person who doesn't have a lot of extra space, but needs a very professional setup the HiLite is the answer.

offers versatility for hi-key, colored, and plain white backgrounds. Still want to try it as a soft box, but see the potential if you have the space.

Been shooting on white seamless paper for years paper. This product rocks the paper method for consistent even light, plus your able to get clients right up against the backdrop, saving valuable studio space. This size is perfect location lighting. Thinking about buying the larger version for the studio.

I use this lastolite background for photo booths, headshots, random portraits, and even as a light source. I can easily blow out this white background with one strobe inserted into the side. With the strobe inserted it can also be a huge soft box. It sets up easy and is even self supporting which eliminates the need for a stand. When you think about the time this quality background saves in post production it's well worth every penny! Can't say anything bad about this thing.

We do all of our work on location. Clients often under estimate the amount of room we need for setup even after repeated warnings. The HiLite allows a compact and quick setup to fit our needs. I ordered the (in my opinion) way over-priced vinyl train but it works and I guess that is what counts. An extra light or two hitting the train yields great results.

I saw a lot of videos on this thing and thought it was way over priced. I finally put the 6'x7' in my basket one day and it was $150.00 off (on sale). If I'd know that I would have bought it sooner.Anyway, took it to a dog event, as I shoot dog portraits and it was easy as pie to setup, I could move the dog near it without white spill (as they only give you a 10' x 10' space in those events). I had trouble putting it back so I jammed it in my car any ole way just to be able to get it home. Then it got twisted inside and wouldn't stand erect. I fiddled with it and got my husband and we got it untwisted. I THEN viewed the viewed the video on how to put it back..works like a charm! Highly recommended!

I watched the video on how to fold it and I used the second method. It is easy to fold if you watch the video.
I have used white paper for years and this is the way to go. You do not need much power to get it white, however I recommend two lights so you can get it even all across.

I use the Hi-Lite mostly in my studio. It has freed up the use of one of my strobes due to only having to use one to lite it.
It is a little to much trouble to take to every location shoot, but I will if I need to.
Great product and I would stongly recommend to other photographers.

I've used this for several jobs with great results.
Easy to use, works great with one flash unit inside the Hilite. I use either an old Nikon sb-26, or a sb-900 set to optical slave.
Pops up like a charm, set up is a breeze. I strongly suggest looking at the Lastolite videos on folding directions. Once you get the hang of it, it's very easy to fold up and put away. The 6x7 is very manageable. The materials look very durable. My only disappointment is with the carrying case. The zipper tab broke immediately under normal use. However the case itself appears to be well made.

Comments about Lastolite HiLite Illuminated White Background (6 x 7'):
Most people love this background as it will make your subject stand out. Some people hate it, because it will make them stick out. I would say about 90% like, and 7% dont, with 3% not sure! It works as advertised, just be aware that you will get some backlighting from this, especially when they are closer to it. I only use one strobe inside of it and it works just fine. Lots of fun to use. Watch the videos on Youtube to learn how to fold it up and its easy. I can put it away within seconds. It may be a bit pricey, but considering you can use it for a large softbox as well as background, it helps justify the cost.

I am currently using this product in my home studio. I am planning to use it in on locations.
The great thing about it is the ease of use and portability. The size is perfect for home studio.
The only detail to keep in mind is the use of at least two good lights, one for the Background and one for the person. For full body photos use the ultra white vinyl on the floor and one more light to totally blow lines and shadows.
In general a great tool you can use to produce money in photography and video, easy to take with you and to accommodate, also easy to obtain perfect hickey photography.

Now you can take shadowless shots in close quarters.
It's compact to carry but unfolds to become a huge backlighted backdrop for Hi-key photography. Light it from the inside with a flash or strobe. It can be used in 6x7 or 7x6 mode depending on your needs.

I needed this product for a photo shoot of kids. Talking about awesome pictures! Man!! I must be professional photographer! hahahaha
Great size (6x7)
Perfect lighting on the background (once pics are printed)
Absolutely no shadow!! Hahahahah
You would need someone to help you fold this down. I have a large reflector so I had the practice. i knew i had to make a circle or a twist as I came in closer.

Perfect high key background with only one strobe. Adding a gel will give you even more options. Very easy to use, models can stand very close with little or no spill. I actually clip muslins to it so it works as a background support also.

I bought this to use for hi-key headshots and it works great for that! Tried it at a pageant (I got talked into) and it was OK. Really need the 7x8 for full body shots even with the train. But it is easy to set up. Taking it down...that's another issue. We still haven't mastered that. So it sits half folded in my studio.
