The Manfrotto 190XPROB Aluminum Tripod Legs builds on the success of the 3001 series and replaces the 3001PRO model. Its horizontal center column feature has been redesigned to make it even easier to flip from vertical to horizontal. Now, by extending the column to its highest vertical position, it can be swung over to horizontal without removing the head or disassembling the column itself. The ergonomics of the leg-angle release mechanism and the quick action leg locks have also been improved.
While it can reach a maximum working height of 57.5" (146 cm), it can also be used as low as 3.3" (8.5). Ideal for use with cameras up to SLR size with medium pro zoom lens attached.

OK, so it's not my first tripod. I had a cheap one years ago and it self-destructed at the leg locks. I also have a hand-me-down metal and aluminum-legged boat anchor of a tripod which is indestructible, stable and lacks everything else you might want in a tripod. By comparison, the 190XPROB is both light (not lightweight) and agile. In addition to adjusting leg lengths for uneven surfaces, you can adjust the leg angles individually for more impossible positioning or to get really close to the ground. The center post raises, but also swings quickly into horizontal in seconds. This is handy if you are shooting from a seated position or need to shoot over a table. It can also work in concert with the legs fully extended and locked at the max angle and with whatever head you are using to get insanely low with camera facing down. I paired my tripod with a 324RC2 Ball Head with joystick control and I am real happy with them both. I can set up shots at all sorts of angles and when zero motion is critical. I intend to take close up shots of model train layouts. The horizontal feature will get my camera right down in the action and stable for those long depth of field shots. Unfortunately the tripod does not come with a bag or sling, and if you like spiked feet, that'll be an extra purchase too. The tripod has built-in attachment points for a sling as well as a hook for weight, and a bubble level. I use a backpack camera bag, and with a head attached the tripod's a bit too long to carry underneath, but attached vertically might work. I could have shaved some weight off the pair with a carbon fiber tripod and magnesium head, but that would have nearly doubled the price, so I sacrificed the weight difference and still ended up with an awesome and necessary addition to my gear. On my next vacation I'm taking the 190XPROB with me and leaving my wife at home.

I just got the 190XPROB and after using it for a day, traded it in for the 055XB which suits my needs better (sort of) for the same price. I shoot with a Nikon F4 and mostly manual focus lenses, and I felt that the 190XPROB was slightly inadequate for the weight I was putting on it. Also, I couldn't find any use whatsoever for the horizontal column feature--the stability of the whole tripod is compromised when your camera is sticking out from the side instead of sitting on top. I'd much rather have the option of installing a short center column to get lower to the ground.

I use the product for general and (amateur) wildlife photography, using a Panasonic DMC-FZ50 often with a telephoto conversion lens. The camera is held rock-steady and all the mistakes are due to my own poor technique.
I find the tripod and its attached head a trifle heavy, but I'm now 71 and a few years ago I would not have noticed the weight.
I propose to use this tripod (with a different head) for home video work.

Easy to use and sturdy. This is by far the best tripod I have ever purchased, a bit heavy, but more stable. You can't beat this product for the price.

This is my first tripod, as I am just beginning my journey into photography. My professor recommended the Manfrotto brand to me and this is what I purchased. I have been taking it out into the field for a few weeks now and it is an excellent product. Very sturdy and easy to use. Also has a great feature to pull out the middle and put it horizontally for macro shots that are close to the ground!

I had cheap tripods before this one that you couldn't keep level or they would be too tipsy. This is a very sturdy, heavy duty tripod that folds down fairly small which makes it easy to transport.

Once I attached the pan head I was super happy. Awesome tripod to run the town with but I would prefer the carbon fiber.

For the price this is a good tripod. It's used in a somewhat fixed location so there's not a lot of collapsing it and resetting it in different environments. But it works well in a relatively fixed location for both a large 9lb spotting scope or a Nikon camera with a 300mm lens.

I've always loved the quality of Manfrotto products. This affordable tripod is perfect for the mobile photographer/videographer. It's sturdy and lightweight yet has sufficient heft so the camera won't shake when manipulating the head. Outstanding product.

Comments about Manfrotto 190XPROB Pro Aluminum Tripod Legs (Black) - Supports 11 lbs (5kg):
I've only owned these legs for a few weeks but I put them through their paces in the Rock Mountains. I purchased this particular set of legs because they are more adjustable than some (leg angles, mostly; with legs that adjust to nearly 90 degrees, you can get just a few inches off the ground) and because I needed something small enough to travel with. The adjustability is very helpful at times. The weight and size is good. I was able to pack it into a suitcase, and it might fit into a carry-on (with no head on it).
I'm just an enthusiast and have never owned a respectable set of legs before, so I don't have much to compare it to.

Senior citizen who finds the weight of this tripod just right. Perfect for landscape photography and macro. The horizontal leg extension for uneven terrain is a great feature. I also purchased a quick-release system to easily remove my cameras from my Manfrotto ball head.
Your staff was very helpful with my decisions.

I left my previous and ligher weight Manfrotto tripod at a remote location in the rush to move on with alot of gear and a bridal party that with was running behind with their time schedule and was unsuccessful in getting it back. So finally I have a new Manfrotto and I simply love the new features as well as its stronger design and heavier weight. I now have so much more flexibility with the middle column's movement options and the option for more height's better also. Great! Great! Great!

This is a great tripod for my work. I am a crime scene investigator
and this tripod is light weight and compact and much simpler to operate
And much more flexible than my previous that broke in two locations
on a crime scene. Main purpose is timed exposure and comparison photographs.
