The Sennheiser ME66 short shotgun microphone is a popular choice among video, film and ENG / EFP professionals. The capsule features a highly directional, cardioid polar pattern yielding great attenuation at the sides of the microphone, maximizing pickup at the front. The result is a focused pickup in highly ambient environments. A wide 40-20,000Hz frequency response provides detailed, accurate signal reproduction. The ME66 capsule takes advantage of the K6 modular power supply. The K6 houses a standard AA alkaline battery and is also capable of accepting phantom power from outside sources. Its compact design allows mounting to video cameras. The ME66 is at home in event videography, ENG / EFP use, video depositions, corporate media applications and film.

Comments about Sennheiser ME66/K6 - Super-Cardioid Short Shotgun Condenser Microphone Kit:

I use this microphone for recording audio on independent films. The crispness of actor's voices is retained at the reasonable distances required to keep the mic out of the video frame. The sound is very clean with little or no perceptible generated hiss form the mic itself. It has tremendous high end and bottom end response, sometimes too much bottom end. The low cut filter is great for reducing air conditioner and other low end ambient noise, but that setting makes the voices sound too thin when compared to the shots used without the roll-off. I usually choose one or the other setting and use it for the entire film, depending upon set locations. Overall, a great value for the money.
