The Benbo Trekker 3 Tripod Legs incorporates slightly geared faces on the main joint components, ensuring that the joint can be locked firmly without undue tightening of the locking handle. The flexibility of the leg joint mechanism combined with the ability to swing the center column a full 180° allows the camera to be positioned at almost any point relative to the tripod legs.
The Trekker will support the majority of modern DSLRs and medium format film cameras. However stability is directly related to weight and the built-in hook at the lower end of the center column allows the temporary addition of extra weight (e.g. a camera bag) to give greater stability when long lenses are in use.
The Trekker comes with a tripod head and a case.

I spend days researching the best tripod for my nature photography. I am really happy I chose this one!!! This tripod is PERFECT for my needs. It can get into virtually any position possible!! It's great for my close-up and macro flower photography as well as my other nature photography needs, like landscapes and birds at the feeders. It's solid, sturdy and very lightweight. I am a woman of nearly 60 years old and it is the best tripod I have ever used for my favorite backyard & garden photography! The fact that one screw controls all the legs takes a little bit of getting used to, but I found it actually more advantageous than a hindrance. I love how the center post can extend out over the flower beds. A great buy and a MUST for my nature photography and anyone looking for a VERY VERSATILE tripod!!!

Right out of the box, the main locking handle wouldn't rotate enough turns to tighten the tripod. It wouldn't loosen either. So I took it apart from the nut side of the main handle bolt and found that the bolt had been cross theaded and the first few threads were stripped. After threading it properly, it still needed an extra washer to tighten sufficiently, but at least it worked. Fortunately, the bolt looks like a common U-bolt straightened into a gentle curve, so if necessary I could probably make a new one from a builders supply store. I like the way the tripod gets down low and into various contortions, and it seems sturdy enough for my Nikon D200. I have no problem with it now that it is properly assembled, and have grown to like it after the poor OOB experience, and best of all I don't worry about someone stealing it like I would a $600.00 tripod.

Comments about Benbo Trekker MK3 Tripod Kit with Ballhead and Carrying Case:
I was given this as a Christmas gift or it would have gone back long ago because there is a good warranty on Benbo products. Mine started out with just making me nervous to now, I have literally ended up in tears and lost shots. The centre column no longer will tighten enough to stop from spinning, but because I have used all my force on it, I can't raise or lower it without really working hard to undo it. I had to spend so long fighting with it for one picture while standing in a stream that I lost the picture. I had to move because the stream rose too much due to the rain. I have missed more than one picture now because of this tripod and being unable to have it stay where I put it.

Comments about Benbo Trekker MK3 Tripod Kit with Ballhead and Carrying Case:
I would have to tether my camera to the ceiling fan or some other overhanging security apparatus to not get butterflies in my stomach after securing seven points, eight, if you include the screw in ballhead, to my twenty-five hundred dollar camera with the six hundred dollar macro. I mean, it's just not worth the doubt. Just to avoid some extra jiggling of my Gitzo legs. As it turns out, the Benbo requires about four or five times the amount of jiggling I'd have to perform with Gitzo. And I'd lose that secure feeling that always comes from a solid Gitzo.

I just recently purchased this item, and had the chance to use it over the weekend. This Tripod is the best piece of equipment that I own. I was able to capture angles that a normal tripod would be unable to achieve. It does take a few minutes to get use to the difference between the two, but its worth every penny! Do BUY this one.

I hesitated between 4 and 5 stars; I guess it is a 4 because the footings are not too adapted to a slippery surface such as tiles -they do require some kind of rubber adapter of some sort. I nearly gave it a 5 because it is incredibly versatile in the positions that you can set the camera - not so with many other brands. It also handles a Pentax 6X7 very well.Great buy [...]

We just started using this tripod to photograph small artifacts in a museum collection. I like the cantilever aspect of the tripod. This allows me to support the camera over an object and get close enough to use the macro settings without hand-holding the camera. It is easy to set-up, sturdy but not too heavy. I like that it includes a carrying case.

I love it!
I use the tripod for low light (as anyone would) and for macro shots. I previously had a cheap tripod that came with a camera backpack and while I was trying to get a shot of the moon found out how cheap it really was. I finally decided to buy one that was a little more expensive. I am FULLY satisfied - there is no angle that this thing can't hit! Perfect for anyone who wants/needs to get very low angles and then use as a normal tripod. DEFINITELY worth the money.

We purchased this tripod for Micro Photography, and it is working very well. There were some reviews that said the leg mounts would not tighten fully, but we didn't have any issues at all. It does take a little time to figure out the height/base to keep the camera from being a little tipsy to the left or right, but with a counter weight on the back, it is rock stable. We are very happy with the purchase, and B&H has been one of our best suppliers.

I use the tripod for macro photography and is very solid, what is great about it is, that I'm able to setup my camera on uneven surfaces, so far I haven't found things that are not so great about this tripod.

This tripod is absolutely wonderful! There are so many variations for setup that it can work for anything. I shoot everything from landscapes, to portraits, and macro and so far it's been amazing. It has a good hold and hasn't moved yet. When I say tricky I mean it's like setting up a rubix cube, at least until you learn your way around it. Now it's easy. :D

Comments about Benbo Trekker MK3 Tripod Kit with Ballhead and Carrying Case:
I use this tripod in the studio and on the fly shooting food and kitchens for a dining company. It did not take long to learn how to operate the tripod, it is very intuitive. As other have expressed the friction lock legs can be moved if you press hard on them, but are far from unstable. Love this tripod! It allows all the angles that a regular tripod offers and the strait down ones I have needed.

Comments about Benbo Trekker MK3 Tripod Kit with Ballhead and Carrying Case:
I have owned and used this tripod for about 12 years and it has never failed me. The brilliant design has a single clamp that allows all 3 legs and the centre column to rotate a full 360 degrees independent of each other. The legs have the biggest tube with sealed ends at the outer extension (opposite to regular tripods) keeping the cg low and preventing dirt and mud from getting between the tubes and jamming them. It does initially take some getting use to the operation, but once mastered this tripod is a fast and very versatile. I use it with 4x5 field cameras (with out a head as you can do tilt and pan with the centre column) and DSLR's with a ball head.

Comments about Benbo Trekker MK3 Tripod Kit with Ballhead and Carrying Case:
I purchased the Benbo to take images of individual items in a light box, so suspending the camera directly above the items was needed, and the adjustable additional arm on the Benbo was just the thing. Out of the box this tripod looks just OK, you know you don't have a top quality product but I didn't expect a lot for the price. However, one of the bolts holding a leg was missing, so when I first set up for a shot the thing fell over and barely avoided disaster. I put in a temporary fix and then noticed, like another reviewer, that the leg position cannot be fixed, they are movable even with the lock tightened. So my conclusion is that this is a mediocre quality tripod that should not be purchased for semi pro or professional work. If you are aware of the leg issue you'll be OK, but don't plan to take this on any serious hiking ventures.

While it takes a little time to get used to the movements that are possible with this tripod, once you get the hang of it, it is A TANK. Nice and heavy, very sturdy. Worth the price.
I've used it for both indoor and outdoor work. I am hoping to do slow shutter speed night shots with it as well.

Comments about Benbo Trekker MK3 Tripod Kit with Ballhead and Carrying Case:
I think the Trekker is a great idea that needs a serious mechanical overhaul. The weight is the best thing about this tripod. The idea that any photographer has time to "wrestle with a giant squid" (to quote another reviewer) every time they need their tripod is ludicrous. But the worst part is that no matter how tightly I set the single handle release adjustment, there was no way to tighten the legs enough that they couldn't be manually forced apart with a small amount of pressure on the head. I would never trust my valuable equipment to such shoddy workmanship!

Comments about Benbo Trekker MK3 Tripod Kit with Ballhead and Carrying Case:
Generally a good portable tripod. Easy to use and pretty stable.
However, on my first trek the entire head assembly fell off with 500mm lens and DSLR attached when I was carrying tripod form one spot to another on a wildlife shoot. Fortunately no damage. To prevent this in the future, I drilled through the fitting and bolted assembly to the center post with an 1.5 inch by 10-32 bolt.
