Comments about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm Lens and Lexar 2GB CF Card:
I'm new with higher professional cameras, so this camera is very confusing coming from someone who used a Canon Powershot A620, so I wouldn't say it's necessarily good for beginners. I'm still working on figuring it out, so I'm sure my opinion will change. Just throwing the fact out there that it might be better to get a different camera than this one if you're just starting photography.I really dislike the fact that you have to put the setting on the no flash button instead of having the option to put it on a different setting, and not having a flash.
Expertise: Beginner
Problems Encountered: Again, sort of confusing. You don't have a live view on the camera, you have to look through the lens, but that's not necessarily a problem - just something you have to get used to.

Comments about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm Lens and Lexar 2GB CF Card:
I spent 6 days and 5 nights on a rafting trip with my new XTi. I was far from civilization, so I took a spare battery and an extra CF card. I took 885 shots at max definition (though not RAW) before I had to install the spare battery. The card (4 GB Sandisk) held it all, so I never put the spare 2 GB card in the camera.I took a Sigma 30mm F1.4 along with the 18-55mm kit lens. The Sigma was great for those occasions when I wanted to hand-hold the camera without flash, but the 18-55 acquitted itself very well. The sharpness is virtually indistinguishable from that of the Sigma. It is just slower. For the additional cost of the kit with the 18-55 lens, I can't see how a photographer can go wrong getting it. I wanted a lens that I would not be terrified of getting water on. The kit lens fit that niche for me. The fact that it is really a quite good optical performer is a bonus.Other gear that worked well for me on this trip: A Lowepro case and Canon 58mm haze filter came as a part of the B&H outfit with a 2 GB card and camera with lens. This is my first digital SLR. I was quite comfortable using it. I particularly like the focus confirmation in the viewfinder. I used the backlight compensation (exposure compensation) several times on my trip. I upped the ISO speed to enable hand-holding the Sigma lens in near darkness.Future purchases: A wide angle zoom in the 10-20 or 12-24 mm range, and a telephoto of at least 100mm length. I may invest in one of the IS lenses in the telephoto range.Overall, I am quite happy with the Rebel XTi.
Expertise: Advanced Amateur
Problems Encountered: Really none significant. I find that my right thumb does not always fall on the padded rest, and I take a burst of three shots before I realize that it is on the multi shot button. I tend to shoot with my left eye, and that could be making the problem worse, but it is really a minor thing.

Comments about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm Lens and Lexar 2GB CF Card:
I love this camera. It does everything I need it to do.(and more) However, I have not been thrilled with the18-55mm lens. It feels cheaply constructed and I havenoticed some purple fringing.Bottom line - This is a great camera. But if you want agood lens, just buy the body and buy a nicer lens separately.

Comments about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm Lens and Lexar 2GB CF Card:
I've read the other reviews and am wondering whether some of these folks are actually reviewing a Canon XTi or some fell off the truck camera. After getting over the initial feeling of being overwhelmed by the new technology of digital - I've been a SLR/slides guy forever, - I have found this camera to be very user friendly (practice helps) and of a finer image quality than some would have you believe. Yes, I admit that the 18-55 will be shelved in favor of an IS lens when I can afford it, but only because I want to - not because I'm disappointed with the lens itself. Buy this package - it's well worth it.

Comments about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm Lens and Lexar 2GB CF Card:
With over 20 years experience and taking Countless Photographs ,I am NOT at all Impressed with this Lens.ALL Images appear as if a SOFT focus filter is in use and adjusting the Sharpness through the Camera Menu DOES NOT Improve anything Camera itself is Easy to use and is a Great addition. BOTTOM line = Great camera HORRIBLE Lens.
Problems Encountered: The 18-55mm Lens leaves MUCH to be desired !!!!!!!!!
