The Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Grip allows the Nikon D300s, D300 & D700 to be powered by two EN-EL3e batteries (sequentially) - one in the camera body and one in the MB-D10 - effectively doubling your shooting capacity. The MB-D10 also provides a comfortable vertical grip with an additional shutter release and scroll wheel for easy access to the camera functions when shooting in the vertical orientation. It is also fairly compact, with dimensions of 5.9 x 2.9 x 1.7" (15 x 75 x 45mm).
With the included MS-D10 AA battery holder, users can power the camera with 8 AA batteries. Or, use the Nikon EN-EL4 or EN-EL4A battery (sold separately) combined with the optional BL-3 Battery Chamber Cover and obtain a higher frame advance rate (8 Frames per second in the D300) than what the EN-EL3e battery can provide.

Just wanted to comment on something I have not seen much written on. This product is a very well made grip, shutter release and control. MUCH better built than the D200 grip, no wobbling or flimsiness. It really completes the camera and for that reason alone I would buy it.
Due to the really excellent battery life in the D300 (and now D700), I am easily getting through an afternoon of portrait sessions with just one in-camera battery, 1000+ shots. The design allows you to use the in-camera battery without relocating it from the camera into the grip, and just use this grip itself with an EMPTY battery tray. While it is not a huge amount of weight on a scale, it feels much lighter and still is balanced in my hands. Much less fatigue. My D200 grip made you remove the camera battery and put it (and another battery) into the grip to use it. The D200 being a power-hungry camera took two or more batteries to get through the same work.
This makes the weight difference between the grip-equipped D700 the D3 huge at this point. I also love the versatility of having this one grip (and only buying one RRS plate) and using it on either the 300 or the 700.
To be fair, and precise...you have to remove the grip to change the in-camera battery, but for me I am not in a rush and like the lightweight advantage. Also the camera-grip combo is "chunkier" in your hands than the sculpted D3 shape, but my big mitts are very comfortable. I also like the handy little case that Nikon includes with the grip to hold the alternate battery tray that you aren't currently using.
While I do shoot some action stuff, I have the option of throwing either AAs or my spare D3 battery (after Nikon sells you special end cap for the EN-EL4 battery to fit in this MB-D10 grip), and I am at 8fps.
I would strongly recommend to those folks who do not already own the EN-EL4 batteries and charger from a D2X or D3 to save your money and use eight AAs. Same 8 fps speed, and I did not kill my 2500 mah Ni-MH for a whole afternoon of shooting, easily over 2500 shots. Admittedly, the AA are significantly heavier than the EN-EN4.
If you do still want the pro EN-EL4 batteries, realize that the charger, a couple batteries and the special BL-4 end cap to fit this grip will run you about double you pay for this grip...no kidding. Honestly, this compatibility with the EN-EL4 batteries was done as a convenience to pros who already own them from earlier cameras. Makes no sense whatsoever to buy that rig from scratch, when 8 NiMH AAs and a charger can be had for just a few dollars. Use the AAs on your grip and get a new SB-900 with the money you just saved!

Call me nostalgic buy I really liked the battery access on the battery grips for the D100 & D200 a lot better. To use 2 batteries, means having to remove the MB-D10 to access the battery in the camera as well as removing the one from the MB-D10 and then putting it all back together. The multi-function selector knob has more of a joystick feel and is kinda touchy.
It does provide a better grip for bigger hands, which is why I bought it, and it works but a redesign would be nice.

Adds an extra battery, but best of all adds a vertical shutter button and a more D3 like grip without adding much weight.

Bought this to shoot my daughters basketball games. Very helpful since I mostly shoot with the camera on it's side. I really like the shutter button location but I seem to inadvertently move the command dials when shooting. Just need more time to get used to it I guess.

You are reading this because you are not sure if you should spend the extra money on this or go with an off brand. I bought an off brand, it broke within the first week and now I own this one. It is well worth the money to have a grip that will last as long as your camera. The quality difference was noticeable too.

Typical Nikon quality but adds considerable weight to camera body. I use my equipment in remote locations so weight is a factor.

This is the most useful accessory i have bought for my D300s, the extra battery life and ability to shoot in portrait are the reason this grip is amazing.
The added battery life when using the grip is spectacular, the camera never gets in the way of a great shot, and the extra battery means that there is no worry of running out of power just when you need it.
This grip is something i can't live without now.

Battery life is extended significantly! Ease of verticle shooting more than worth it. I don't know how I ever used my d300 without it.

Comments about Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Grip:
We are shooting with the D700. This grip adds another dimension to the camera. Obviously it is much more comfortable shooting with the grip when shooting vertically. The grip also allows you to use a second battery. Increasing the battery life of the camera between charges, but it also gives it a bit more power and will increase the number of frames per second of the camera when shooting multiple simultaneous frames.

Comments about Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Grip:
After using similar grips and cameras that featured the vertical shutter release, I don't like shooting with anything that doesn't have that feature. Makes holding the camera vertically much more comfortable and intuitive. With shutter speed/aperture dials on the grip, you never have to take the camera from your eye. Having an additional battery makes life easier as well, extending the number of shots you can get before swapping out a dead battery.

Use with my D700. It´s nice to have the vertical grip. I like the extra weith that add to the camera.
Perfect to have 2 batteries, I usualy shoot conected and that drains their power faster.
Not so good multi-selector, It´s too small and sometimes you have to concentrate on it to do what you want.

Comments about Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Grip:
I had Nikon multi power battery grips for D200 and I was not overly impressed with them. The MB-D10 I bought for my D700 is in a whole other league. Solidly built, solid feel when attached to the camera, no cheap plastic compartment latch and the finish matches the camera perfectly. The control wheels behave exactly as the ones on the camera. However I set the behavior of the camera wheels is shadowed on the grip's wheels. I like this grip, it adds nice functionality to the camera. It's a bit more expensive than the knockoffs, but it's a nice product and you get what you pay for.

Comments about Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Grip:
I bought this to fit my D300 after experiencing the battery grip from my old D200. This is heads and tails better and while more expensive, it is worth it. Once you are used to the ease of shooting vertically, you can't go back. The D200 grip was constantly breaking due to so much plastic. Not the case with the MB-D10. I use 8 NiMh AA batteries and it's incredible to be able to shoot 8 frames per second. I do a lot of HDR photography and much of it is hand held. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Comments about Nikon MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Grip:
I've been using a grip on my D90 since day 1, and when I got my D700, I purchased one too. It's so worth it because I can now shoot verticals more comfortably especially in awkward positions (laying on the ground for example).
The grip isn't too heavy and is very confortable.

Got this more for the additional shutter release than the battery capacity and I'm not disappointed. A totally different and superior feel shooting in portrait mode with the grip's shutter release and multi-function scroll wheel. Very solid, well designed.
