This Ikelite housing for the Nikon D300 allows iTTL operation with the Ikelite DS digital SubStrobes when connected to the housing's bulkhead by a sync cord. A large dial on the back of the housing puts precise exposure control right at your fingertips. The top (yellow) half of the exposure dial provides four 1/3 f/stop increments over or under flash compensation to be added to or subtracted from any compensation entered into the camera. The bottom (black) half of the dial provides seven manual power settings in half-stop increments. Other manufacturers' strobes can be used, but they cannot provide iTTL exposure or be adjusted manually through the housing.
The auto focus system on the camera is very good, but does require a certain amount of light and contrast. When shooting under ledges, on night dives, or inside caves and wrecks a focus light will allow the camera to focus faster. The housing features a 1/4-20 threaded mounting point in the center of the housing above the lens. This is the perfect place to attach a focus light or other accessories.
Controls are provided for every camera function except for the metering selector that surrounds the AE/AF button. Camera Flash Compensation button can be activated by your index finger while your hand remains on the handle. "Stay depressed" control operates the White Balance, ISO and Qual functions on top left of camera body. AE/AF lock button can be activated with your thumb while holding the handle.
The housing size and weight provides neutral buoyancy and superb handling underwater. Camera installation is quick and simple. The dependable controls are conveniently placed at your fingertips, and kept water tight with Ikelite pioneered Quad-Ring seal glands, proven to be the most reliable method for sealing controls.
The Ikelite Super-Eye magnifier provided with the housing offers enhanced viewing while wearing a diving mask. An assortment of interchangeable lens ports allows use of most macro, wide-angle, and zoom lenses. Ikelite uses a simple and reliable 4-point locking system to attach lens ports to the housing. This fail-safe assembly consists of one sliding lock in each corner around the opening that accepts the port.
A lens port is required to match specific lens on SLR camera. Please also note that some zoom lenses might require addition of a Close-Up #4 diopter filter on the lens.

Comments about Ikelite 6812.3 iTTL Housing f/ Nikon D300:
This is my third Ikelite Housing...first a Coolpix, then a D100 now a D300. This is the best yet! More compact, controls easier for small hands, hotshoe wiring better constructed, sync cord opening tucked in the back instead of on top to get beaten to death and caught on things in currents. The TTL feature is the most wonderful of all the features. Are there more awesome housings...of course.....but for the price, Ikelite can't be beat! Repair and service at Ikelite is always quick, courteous, cost effective and easy. Talking to their helpful staff is a joy!

Comments about Ikelite 6812.3 iTTL Housing f/ Nikon D300:
Used for U/W photography in both salt and freshwater, saltwater primarily.
Easy to use as well as being cost effective. Very easy to see that positive seals have been achieved.
It is however a bit on the heavy/large side, not badly so though in my opinion.

Comments about Ikelite 6812.3 iTTL Housing f/ Nikon D300:
I have been using Ikelite housings for the past 9 years for underwater photography in the sea. The simple and practical design allows you to operate all the important camera functions manually. The TTL works well with my DS125 sub-strobes and allows for easy EV compensation. Good value for money compared with most other housings and clear acrylic construction let's you see what's happening inside.

Comments about Ikelite 6812.3 iTTL Housing f/ Nikon D300:
I've had the Ikelite housing for my D300 for 4 months and used it on 11 dives. I have found it easy to use and I can control all the D300 features I need to control. The only drawback is the port for the viewfinder is quite small and it is not possible to see the whole frame in one go.
