The Gary Fong Puffer Pop-Up Flash Diffuser is for use on almost any SLR camera that has a hot shoe and pop-up flash. It has a convex, dimpled white diffuser front that softens and disperses the light from your camera's pop-up flash.
The height of the Puffer is adjustable. Its twin prongs fit into any of the eight sets of holes at the rear of the diffuser. This makes it adaptable to almost any type camera that features a pop-up flash and a hot shoe.

I'm not a big flash user, preferring natural lighting whenever possible (I'll spend money on a lens vs flash unit any day). That being said the built in flash on my olympus e-420 is to direct and harsh. This diffuser is a great solution and improves the image quality of those times when I need a flash. I think it reduces the flash range just a tad. One thing to note is you do not need to jam the diffuser all the way into the flash mount - I go about halfway. Hope that helps. Cheers.
The only way it would be better is if they made a more expensive option that was made of aluminum or some other material stronger than the abs plastic they use.

I wanted to like this product, I really did. I am a Nikon shooter, and tried this on my D300, D200, D70 and CP 5700. First, it kills your range of an already limited power popup flash to make it useful for work no more than about 6-8 ft away. Forget using it for outdoor fill, not enough pop...but to be fair, the popup does not work that well by itself in that situation.Personally, I found myself grabbing my SB-800 because I really did want the quality more than the convenience and very limited use. Others may be less picky and more about convenience.Bottom line, if you want to shoot a face or 2 at 6-8 ft away with softened light...MUCH better than open flash...Puffer delivers. Do not expect much more out of this item.On the Nikons, it fooled the metering and required that I adjust EV by +1/3 to +1 to match the open flash exposure, so it is not immediately convenient either. The SB with diffusers are automatically metered correctly, as it Gary Fong's Lightsphere, a product I really love.Construction is OK, 2 pieces but you have to take them apart to make them compact in your bag....but hey, it is only [$].

Great diffuser, works just like advertised. Easy to pack and bring along even in a small bag. Breaks down into two pieces so its easy to transport. Its a little pricy for what it is and yes, similar results can be accomplished even for free with a little creativity, but you are paying for convenience. No regrets or complains on my part.

Comments about Gary Fong Puffer Pop-Up Flash Diffuser:
I've been a photographer for 10 years and this is the perfect solution for a harsh flash. I have many flashes/diffusers but sometimes they're too big to lug around, especially during travel, familiy events, or professional engagements. Worth every penny. It fits right in my pocket, takes seconds to put on, and makes every picture look like I used a pro-flash-diffuser combo. It doesn't work well when the subject is too far away (15+ ft) but you won't be using it like that. TIP: You might want to make the flash a bit stronger, but if you don't, no biggie.
I recommend this product to ANY photographer- professional, amatuer, rich or poor. If you spend a bunch of money on a nice camera, and you don't spend the extra on this little piece of heaven, you need to re-read this recommendation and buy the darn thing.

This is great for macro or product photography. Sometimes you need to just defuse the flash with out giving the impression you are actually using a flash. This product helps big time.

The diffuser did everything & more I expected it to do. My flash was just to harsh for indoor use on gloomy days and the diffuser has helped hide those shadows.

I'm not a photographer, but I do like to take pictures, especially of my little one. I was really bummed at the way the pop-up flash would wash out her face when taking a portrait inside. My sister-in-law (who is a photographer) suggested this product, and it works great! Very easy to use too!

Comments about Gary Fong Puffer Pop-Up Flash Diffuser:
This is an inexpensive accessory, lightweight, compact and can go in any camera bag and it greatly enhances the camera's own pop-up flash. Because it fits together with only plugs in holes, I worry that the diffuser could pop off and be easily lost/damaged. This has not happened, but I wonder. I am very glad I purchased it.

Yay! Now I do not have to carry my SB800 with diffuser dome ALL the time! Think: quick snaps around the house, with the dogs, kids, etc without that tell-tale popup flash look!
Don't get me wrong.. it is not a replacement for professional and off-camera flash.. Just an inexpensive way to make yourself a little more versatile and a little less bulky when the day calls for that. Besides.. its part of my New Year resolutions to lose the bulk ; )
ps- the hot shoe mount is really nice and snug. The construction does not indicate that it will wear out, either.

Works fine. Best for up-close shots as it cuts your range a fair amount. Not as good as a diffuser on my SB-700 but WAY better than nothing for my D-300 pop-up and very convient for snap shots at a party. Not expensive and eash to carry in your pocket.

Thus diffuser is a handy little gadget for softening the flash, Easy to use, easy to store. Don't over-expect, though. It's better than no diffuser, but won;t work miracles.

Comments about Gary Fong Puffer Pop-Up Flash Diffuser:
Doesn't overcome all the shortcomings of a popup flash but does help. Works well for portrait shots. Softens the background shodows so they aren't as harsh and evens out the lighting more. I have read about the problems with it breaking on people while trying to attach it to a camera. So I have been really careful with it and haven't had any issues. I do like the adjustability so it allows for a custom fit.

Being I take pictures mostly everyday as part of what I do.(Paper Crafts) I needed something that would help w/my lighting and this is a quick and inexpensive way to get just that.
I really can't say there is anything I didn't like. In the long run I do a flash for my camera but being on a budget this was just what I needed at this time.

I don't use this for when doing my professional portraits, but it is great for taking nice pictures of the family, etc. It diffuses the light, so that the flash is not so harsh. Very satisfied with the outcome.

This is my second one--I like the first one so well I bought another for a second camera. I was using an empty pudding cup over my on-camera flash as a diffuser, and it was okay, but this is much better and looks better.

A good item to carry in your camera bag. It diffuses light (somewhat) and reduces hot spots. Just be careful not to lose the diffuser (I did).
