I got the D2 to play flac files. The sound is superior to every portable media player I have ever heard, including both the sound of compressed and uncompressed files. The battery life is also superior. It is not, however, for the good old moms. The prospective D2 owner should be tech savvy or have a friend who is. The Korean to English translation in the manuals leaves a lot to be desired.

I basically became interested in Cowon products after reading rave reviews about their sound quality - and I'd say this certainly lived up to the hype. Obviously you'll need much better headphones than those that come with the player, but, unfortunately, that's pretty much expected these days.
By far, the main drawback is the navigation. Scrolling is a joke, so you basically have to poke at the scroll bar and hope you end up near the right part of the alphabet. Not so fun when driving a car.
Also, simply dragging and dropping videos did not work for me. No software was included, but I did find some sort of convertion program on the cowon website - I haven't used it yet though.

This is a great MP3 player. It holds loads of music, movies, books, photos; it has a voice recorder, a memo pad, calculator (a scientific one too!). It also has expandable memory which can be an organizational boon. The worst thing I can say about it is that the documentation isn't great- but any teenager can figure it out. The D2 is small, lightweight, fits in the palm of your hand, but is chunky enough that it won't get lost in your pocket or purse. I love it.

Comments about Cowon D2 8GB Personal Media Player - (Black):
I hate to admit that I was way behind the times...this is my first MP3 player. I did a bunch of research prior to my purchase. I wasn't interested in being beholden to any particular brand as far as downloading music from a particular site, so I avoided buying a player from "the big two". In addition, I wanted something that would play virtually all types of files; the Cowon seemed to have the best of all worlds, including expandable memory. The Cowon is a bit technical compared to the mp3 players my friends have, but I haven't had any problems with using the basics. I've had no issues with the unit itself, other than the ear pods that came with the unit - they apparently were made for someone with giant ears. The only issues I've had have been my own lack of knowledge of setting up the playlists - the only drawback is that the Cowon doesn't come with a detailed user guide. You need to download it from their site, but it only takes a few minutes. I haven't taken the time to read it thoroughly to see everything I can do with this little piece of equipment, but I am looking forward to learning more.
Two great features are the FM radio - which has a pretty good antennae, and the battery...it lasts an unbelievably long time. I have yet to run the battery down. The Cowon is a decent size, about the size of a small point-and-shoot camera (a few people at work thought that was what it was, since I'm a photographer in my "outside life"). In addition, it appears to be a pretty tough little guy - I dropped it off my desk onto the floor at work and it kept playing without a flinch. The sound is good as well, once you get a set of ear pods that fit. I suggest any Sony model.

I've had my Cowon D2 for a couple weeks, and I love it. I don't have any complaints yet. It's very easy to use and the battery lasts forever. The video quality is excellent and sounds great, too.
