The Digital Grey Kard Premium White Balance Card Set with Premium Lanyard (Set of Three Cards) from Digital Image Flow brings science to the art of digital color control. Digital Grey Kard is the user-friendly, economical, and indispensable color correction tool that belongs in every photographer's bag. Digital Grey Kard gives you perfect digital color every time.
By using this set of three cards - Black, White and Neutral Grey simply take a picture of the card in the same lighting your subject is (or was) in. Use auto white balance and P (Program) mode for the picture. You can either use the resulting picture as the basis for a custom white balance setting, or you can use the White Balance Card Set picture during post processing for a custom white balance.
The glossy surface of the White Balance Card Set will instantly reveal any reflections that may lead to incorrect white balance. If reflections are seen on the Card surface during a white balance operation, reposition the Card so that reflections are eliminated.
Note! The DGK-2 differs from the DGK-1 with the addition of the detachable clip, which allows the cards to be released from the lanyard.

The product consists of a set of three cards made of what seems to be a durable material, possibly plastic, one grey, one white and one black. The cards are about the same size of a credit card, so you could easily keep them in your wallet and carry them everywhere, but they also come with a handy lanyard.
There are two ways to use them. The first one is by using the custom white balance function in your camera. My camera, a Canon PowerShot G10, works by enabling that option, and then pointing it at something white to set the appropriate white balance. You just put the white card under the same light as the subject, set the white balance, and you're good to go, repeating when the lighting changes. If you don't use post-processing software such as Aperture or Lightroom, you should use this technique.
The second way works by setting the white balance during post-processing. Before you take your photo, take a test shot of the grey card, making sure it's under the same light as your subject. Take more if the lighting condition changes. Then, in Aperture, you can set the white balance by clicking on something that's neutral grey with the white balance tool; click on the grey card in your test photo, and then use the same white balance setting on the rest of your photos.
With either technique, this product will guarantee you'll get the correct white balance and get rid of color casts every time.

I bought this a while ago to be a smaller size for field work. I shoot in RAW and whether it is macro work or a landscape, I like to get a good white balance reading even if I decide to warm up or cool off my developed (final) photos. The cards come with a 18% gray and a pure white and black card. The gray is for white balance and the white and black can be used to set the white and black point (levels) in post. I like the white and black cards that were included because although I don't set my photos to the pure white and black points as seen on the cards, they are good for reference as to how accurate your levels are.I like the cards but I didn't like the strap that I got with them. There is another cheaper version of this that I would have gone with if I had known that the strap was what it is.[...]The strap now has vinyl logos that run the full length and while I found the non-printed side to be soft and comfy, the lettered side (which often twisted around itself) was itchy to my bare neck as was the safety release at the back. The cord holding the cards to the neckstrap was rather thin- not much thicker then a few strands of dental floss and while it does seem strong at first glance, after about two hours of using it, it started to show some ware. It also feel like one good pull and it would snap. The clip holding the cards to the strap is much smaller and flimsy then the strap shown in the photo and I was able to pull the cards off rather easily without pinching the release. Not good since I wanted to wear this around my neck and when I am working, my lightmeter and other items around my neck often get wrapped around a tripod leg or snagged on something. I was worried that I would walk by and the cards would snap off and I would not know it until it was too late. The cheaper model seems to be a better version at this point and if the price had been a bigger difference I would have returned this and gotten the next model down. The clasp on the next size down is metal and the strap is a cord with no writing so it seems a little more rugged in my opinion.I did modify my set by dumping the strap and going to the hardware store and buying a cheap keychain strap. I was able to put my cards on a metal keychain ring which makes them easier to hold and fan out plus it feel more sturdy around my neck and it has a better reach. All in all I really like the cards. The strap needs to be readdressed though because the changes made are not good ones. Overall I give this 3 stars. 5 for the cards and minus 2 for the strap.

When you enter a new room/area simply take a picture of the cards. In post use the card photo to white balance for any pictures taken in that room. Simple and works.

Comments about DGK Color Tools Digital Grey Kard Premium White Balance Card Set with Premium Lanyard (Set of Three Cards):
I bought the cap type with the white dome in the middle because this one wasn't available at the photo shops in town... They were terrible in low light and not on more often than not. This one is great in low light, easy to pack and most importantly it gets the colors right.

I use this product a lot on outdoor shoots, and it really helps with post production. The cards do scratch easily, so you have to be careful with them.

Comments about DGK Color Tools Digital Grey Kard Premium White Balance Card Set with Premium Lanyard (Set of Three Cards):
I am a Photographer & Videographer and I use this set of grey cards to adjust my White Balance, Mids and Blacks in Post using PS CS5 and FCP7. I find this set to be the most convenient set you can find because of its size and because it's on a very premium landyard that allows you to carry along with ease. If I'm out on a shoot I just throw the landyard around my neck and use it accordingly. It's all about preference for most people. Some people might prefer to have very large grey cards but I find this set to be just perfect for my liking. The size of this set of Grey cards is about the size of a Baseball card.

Unless I am using them wrong, they seem to small to get an exposure off of . I did use a spot meter which helped. Otherwise they are made well enough.

Comments about DGK Color Tools Digital Grey Kard Premium White Balance Card Set with Premium Lanyard (Set of Three Cards):
very accurate, convenient and gives me predictable color. I use it for wedding photos, re-setting the white balance over and over again as the subjects move from place to place. The only suggestion i have is that the red strap be just a little longer so i don't have to remove it from around my neck everytime i re-set the wb. But that's not a big deal.

The cards are small and cards quality are very durable. But the Gray color is off, a little lighter then the 18% Gray by Kodak Gray Scale, also the price is a little high for 3 pieces of card.

Comments about DGK Color Tools Digital Grey Kard Premium White Balance Card Set with Premium Lanyard (Set of Three Cards):
These white balance cards were just what I needed to round out my kit. I had previously relied on a white foam core sample (yikes!) so I was in desperate need for some real white balance cards. These are very durable and come with a handy lanyard to keep them together. I have been very pleased with the results and the cost of these cards. Very recommended!

Comments about DGK Color Tools Digital Grey Kard Premium White Balance Card Set with Premium Lanyard (Set of Three Cards):
Taking mushroom photos in a forest (or, similar situations where the light has an unwanted color cast) means the light is a filtered green color. To get the true colors of the mushrooms (or, when taking pictures in similar situations where the light has an unwanted color cast), one needs to do a custom white balance. These cards make that much easier.
They are small, easy to pack along and use.
