On the outside, I carry a tripod and reflectors
It does get a little heavy, but hey, that's a lot of equipment to carry.
The only bad thing is that I haven't been able to buy extra camera inserts for this case. I've sent 2 emails each to their sales and support department, but no reply. I tried to call, but they don't ever answer and no way to talk to customer service.
Aside from customer service, I wish that the rolling handle was a bit sturdier.

The case is really great for location work, however it does not fit in the overhead compartment of airlines. I had to check the case with my gear in it and I was furious. Tenba says it fits but in reality it does not meet the airline size limit due to the wheels. You can take the insert out and then it will fit in most overhead stowage. Other than that it is an awesome case.

Comments about Tenba Roadie Rolling Photo Case, Large (Black):
I'll start off with the bad news first. This case does exceed airline size requirements for carryon. It also has the telescoping handle on the outside of the case, a feature conveniently omitted in all published photos. This area will inevitably incur damage if gate checked I'm afraid. By the way, I'm reviewing a case which has already been discontinued by Tenba. So why bother? I'm hoping a similar case will come out in the future. The Tenba Roadie II Large has a soft outer shell and is therefore not suitable for air travel. This original large case is compromised by the exposed telescoping handle as already noted, but it is a sturdy case that will protect the contents, is well designed ergonomically, has plenty of pockets and a well thought out and flexible main storage compartment with lots of dividers. I plan to travel by car with this case and use the Tenba Roadie Universal (first version) for air travel. I simply have to compromise my selection of gear when using that case due to it's smaller size. If I can't do that due to the nature of the assignment, I'll just have to risk the handle and replace it if necessary.

Comments about Tenba Roadie Rolling Photo Case, Large (Black):
I wrote my first review of the Large Roadie back in 11/5/2008.
I have since moved to Chicago. And in Chicago, I usually don't take my car to shoots, so this suitcase gets used very often.
I was able to buy the replacement inserts and pads directly from them
Ever since then, I have done a lot of travel, and someone had also mentioned that this won't fit on the overhead bins on the airplane because of the wheels.
2 years later, the bags is still being used every time for transporting my photo gears for on-location shoots. I still love this bag.
I do own the Universal version, which is a bit smaller and will definitely fit in the overhead bins of most planes.
Here are what I usually put nowadays:
2 D3Ss mounted with 70-200 and 14-24 mm
85mm, 50mm, 24-70mm, 2 x SB-800, SB-900, SU-800, and several batteries.

I love how the organizer flap opens to reveal zippered pockets for things like cords, lens caps, camera manual.Especially clever is the handled insert that allows you to remove the entire contents easily. That way you can tote your camera gear without the case if you like.
However, the case is not compact as some would prefer. I have yet to carry it on board a flight, but it is on the large side.

This case looks like a "regular" suitcase. Although on the large end of the size scale for a carry on, if threatened with having to throw it in the hold, I can pull out the main gear case and let them toss the outer case in the hold! Holds my Panasonic DVX 100B and HMC 155 ('tho not much else).

I use this product to store my cam equipment while at the same time I use it to travel and know that I have all of what I need with me and where I am used to having them. I love how you can take the inside of the case out and use it like you would a regular rolling case. Also I like the Tripod holder.
The handle can be made to be stronger. Overall the best rolling case I know!

This is a very nice case to take for weddings, but I just wish it had a little for room especially in the cover pockets.

This is not a roughing it camera bag. It will not carry stuff into the field but if you need to bring a lot it is perfect. I particularly like the tilt stand so the contents can be accessed without taking up a lot of floor space.

Sturdy bag with more than amble space. Fits well in the planes overhead bin provided you do not use anything outside secured with the bungee cord. Anything bigger will not fit. So far I love it. The bag itself is a little heavy so choose what you will take.

The case is everything it says it will be. Holds a good amount of gear and a laptop nicely. The only thing I didn't like is the large zipper pouches as things always get jammed in with no organization.

I like the indipendance of the laptop compartment, separate from the main photo area.
The main compartment is well designed & thoroughly adaptable & the entire construction is really sturdy.
I have used the product already, on location, its perfect for my needs.

I pack just about everything in this bag - holds a ton of equipment; 2 bodies, 300 f2.8, 70-200, flash, batteries, charger, etc as well as my laptop. Very well constructed bag. Could use a few more pockets but then you'd give up space for the serious gear ...
