Very good flash for this price, lots of features. Wireless functionality is especially nice, almost every pentax camera now has built-in flash that can act as master or controller. Recycling times are very low with good NiMh batteries like eneloops or varta ready to use (around 3 s at maximum output, better than AF540fgz). Doesn't produce annoying noise then charging as my previous flash.
The main cons is weak lock of tilting mechanism - the flash head won't hold heavy diffuser like lumiquest big bounce on it's own and will collapse. Not a big problem for me, though, as i prefer off camera setups (wireless or wired) with diffusers, holding a flash in left hand by it's head.
Also I'm not a huge fan of metz interface system (only four buttons, lots of actions require to press 2 buttons simultaneously).
Overall, I like this flash a lot.

I'm generally quite pleased with this flash -- nice features, sleek design -- EXCEPT that it has a recurring problem with the motor zoom function. I get an error message flashing on the screen, and I can hear the motor trying to adjust but it can't seem to budge. I sent it in to be repaired already once, but the problem has returned. Also, no PC connection and the buttons are a little bit annoying to operate.

I have another Metz flash for my Nikon which I think is great but the 48 has only limited functions with the samsung nx 100 I bought it for but I am making good use of it.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 48 AF-1 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Pentax & Samsung SLR Cameras:
This is a great flash to add to my K-7. My wife gave it to me as a birthday present and is now regretting as she realizes she's just fueling the fire. The auto mode works wonderfully, as well as the slave flash (wireless) mode. The modeling light doesn't appear to be as useful to me than I thought.
Now to the meat of the matter: At longer distances I have to put it in manual mode because PTTL mode won't put out as near as much light. Also, the menu structure requires two hands to navigate. This is kinda cumbersome trying to change from shoe mode to wireless mode while holding the camera and flash. I just figure I'll have to pick an operating mode and leave it that way.

I have used it to do child portraits, and will be using it for my first wedding in a couple of weeks. I was a little nervous about the lack of time I would have to get used to the flash before the wedding, and I am finding it easy to use. It works well as a fill flash, and in many dark situations.
The Wedding will be the true test.

I love this flash! I have the bigger brother of it already but, now that I have started using two bodies for weddings I needed a second flash to go with the second body and this is it! Would not consider any other brand now.

Stabbed some batteries in, jammed it on the K-7 and started shooting birthday pics. Perfect. Wireless is flawless. Probably the best value in a flash going. The interface is a little funky, like others have mentioned but it is easily overlooked.

I used this flash for two weddings, and it worked like a champ. Overall a great, easy to use flash. This manual explains the functions sufficiently. It is difficult to use the SELECT button, it does require two hands typically.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 48 AF-1 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Pentax & Samsung SLR Cameras:
I purchased the flash to use with my Pentax Kx. I especially like the ability to direct the light using the swivel/tilt feature. Adjusting the power output of the flash is simple, however, the instruction manual could be much better. If the manufacturer could include pictures with corresponding steps for each setting available using the button system you could begin using all features much faster. Also, since the flash can be used as a slave, why not include a foot to hold the flash upright? I've seen pics of this flash on a foot stand, but cannot find a stand for sale from this retailer or the manufacturer.
Using this flash gun has enabled me to take much better pictures indoors & outside when fill is needed. Excellent addition to my photo gear.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 48 AF-1 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Pentax & Samsung SLR Cameras:
The AF 48 works perfectly with my Pentax Kx. My indoor shots are much improved now that I can adjust the power of the flash & use the swivel/tilt feature to correctly direct/bounce the light. In my opinion, the swivel feature on the Metz AF 48 makes it a more versatile light source & a better dollar value than the Pentax AF 360.I cannot understand why Metz would not include a foot since the 48 AF can be used as a slave in wireless P-TTL mode. B & H doesn't carry it as an accessory & I don't see it offered on the Metz web site either. Two more points: First, the LCD screen can be hard to read at times, and lights up green rather than the blue I've seen in pics on the web. Second, the buttons work well, but take a bit of practice to set the flash. This issue could be easily corrected if Metz offered a manual that used pictures with step-by-step instructions for making the various settings. I'm very pleased with the results the AF 48 produces[...]

Tried the the other model suggested by a local photo shop. That unit would not sync with my Pentax K-X frame. This unit (48 af-1) performs flawlessly. Just as promised. Add a diffuser and your good to go. P-TTL off camera works without flaw.

This device was bought after comparison with similar class flashes (pentax 360 and sigma ef-530). I chose metz and did not regret.
At first control doesn't seem simple, but I adapted quickly.
Very power flash, swivel, many functions, flexible control.
My friend was going to buy Metz 48 for his Canon after I show him my foto with built-in flash and new Metz.
Apologize for my English))))))))

The same guide # as the Pentax AF 360 but has a lot more features. The user manual is very difficult to understand-connects wirelessly to the K10d if you have the current firmware-nice feature. Not a really powerful flash but does a good job up to about 15-0.

After a LOT of reseach I purchased the AF 48 flash gun. I use it on my Pentax K10 and get consistantly fantastic results. In my opinion it is far better value ( cost vis a vie value } than either the Sigma or Pentax guns. Buy it and enjoy. [...]
