The Canon DW-100 DVD Burner backs up your video footage to AVCHD or Standard Definition DVDs. Since there are only three buttons on the burner: Record, Power and Eject it's easy enough for anyone to use without having to learn complicated software or editing processes. The DVD burner will also playback AVCHD discs through an HDTV screen when connected to the HD camcorders.
It's also possible to transfer photos taken on your Canon VIXIA High Definition Flash and Hard Disk Drive camcorders as well as FS Series camcorders. The DW-100's Photomovie creation function will convert all jpeg files into a photomovie for storage or for viewing on your television

First of all - I only shoot HD video.
The DW-100 is the PERFECT solution for backing up HD video from the Canon VIXIA HF10. The end result can be played back on a blue-ray player OR through the camera using the DW-100. Video played back through the camera to a HD TV is so close to cable HD quality it's amazing. I attempted to use my PC to transfer and back-up HD video, and it worked some of the time (often the burner on the PC would lock up and not complete the burn resulting in wasted time and DVD's). The DW-100 is so simple - hook up your video camera, hit one button and forget it. Burns correctly every time without a single wasted DVD. If you DO want a non blue-ray consumer DVD, there is a commercially available piece of software which will provide you a 2 keystroke burn from the DVD created by the DW-100. The DW-100 will not "down convert" HD video for you, but that's not what it was intended to do in the first place. This is THE device for people shooting HD video.

Really fast easy setup, requiring you only to power it on, connect to the HF10, and choose play or record. You mainly choose scenes or dates from the HF10 to determine what goes into the DVD. What bites is that you can't edit/cut short specific scenes, and that it cannot play HD DVD's (the FXP and the XP+ modes) without it being attached to the camcorder. You'll need a Blu-Ray player or a PS3 to view HD content. (Of course you can record in XP or LP modes and just create a DVD that should play in a reguar player - but that kinda defeats the point of having a HD camcorder). Oh, yeah, there's no way to convert HD to standard def while burning.
All in all, though, it beats tying up the computer for hours, and letting all those memories to fill up in the flash drive.

Comments about Canon DW-100 DVD Burner:
For what it does, it does it very good, and very easily. Backs up the video from my Vixia HF10 camcorder to AVCHD DVDs that look great on my HD TV. However, most of what I shoot will be edited, so I still need to use my Blu-Ray burner for that HD video.

Comments about Canon DW-100 DVD Burner:
While this product appeared to be the perfect solution for our sports application, we were disappointed to discover from Canon that our HFR-21 camera wasn't intended to work with the DW-100[...]The unit seemed to be the perfect solution for sharing raw footage with others efficiently and without a computer.

Comments about Canon DW-100 DVD Burner:
This Canon DVD Burner-100 is very simple to use and creates great DVD-R disks. However, don't make the mistake I did and try using DVD+R disks ....they DO NOT WORK AT ALL when the sourse camcorder is a Canon AVCHD VIXIA HF S21.
The DVD-R disks created by the DVD-100 Burner can be played on Blu-Ray player.

Comments about Canon DW-100 DVD Burner:
I only use this for taking video right off my FS-300 video camera. I was surprised that it takes so long to burn DVD. It is also bigger than I expected. But it is a great product I just set up the camera follow the on-screen prompts from the video camera andthen press the big red button on the burner and just walk away. It is great product simple and easy to use. Easily plays in all my DVD players, was even able to play it in a hospital room dvd player. Highly reccommended.

Comments about Canon DW-100 DVD Burner:
This recorder has only three buttons to use so confusion is a thing of the past. It mates up with my Canon HD camera with a USB cable making the hook simple as well. You can use the camera for some rough editing of those what the heck happened here shots we all shoot sometimes. This helps to rid those pesky shots and makes the shots going to the DVD the good ones that will go into the final cutting stages. I wish I had this great machine two years ago.

Comments about Canon DW-100 DVD Burner:
We have one of these in a multimedia lab that students use to transfer their videos from the FS-200 cameras. It takes approximately 1/3 the time to create DVD using this machine.
Some things I have noticed:
You need to set the camera up to prepare the video clips to be transferred to the burner. It is not simply plugging in the USB cable. The selection/setup process is not as intuitive as I would like.
I have not found any way to have the burner automatically create chapters from longer continuous video clips.
While we are not using this for AVCHD video, the manual does state that if you burn AVCHD video, that you have to use this burner, the camera, and a TV for play back. The AVCHD disk will not work in other DVD players.
This said, I do plan on purchasing a second DW-100 for our multimedia lab.
