This Impact Collapsible Background is a small, easy to use accessory for shooting small objects or simple headshots. This background sets-up and folds easily and comes in its own see-thru storage bag.
The two-sided feature gives you the flexibility to take one background to a job rather than two. It also allows you to quickly shoot the same portrait with two different backgrounds, thereby giving your client two different "looks" to choose from.
Note! Colors depicted may vary slightly, due to differences in computer monitors, printed media, and variances in manufacturer's dyes or paints. In addition, this product may be folded for storage a number of ways.

As a portable backdrop, it works fine and the wrinkles just seem to be part of working with muslin bg's. Steamers work and I haven't tried the water spray bottle suggestion yet but have found using the attached velcro straps or other clips to pull it out tighter than the metal frame does is all thats needed. The complaints about it being a nightmare to fold up are mostly true and here's what I discovered. The product demo [...] is backward for this product. The one he demos must be another brand with a thinner metal band because it just doesn't work. In his demo, he is holding it by the end corners on a short side (5') but you need to grab this one by the long side (7') corners and then it works. After wrestling with it many, many times [...] I finally went to the Impact website. They have a pdf there showing how to do it but you have to look closely at the photos to see they are grabbing it by the long side. Try it, you'll see it works then.

I've had to send one back, so I've had two of these. Both came extremely wrinkled, and the frame had an extremely pronounced warp to it. I spent several hours of tedium with a steamer to get the wrinkles out. The warp improved after both getting the wrinkles out and letting it hang for several days. Even then it tends to bend slightly out of shape if I try to use it by standing it up against a wall. It's best used only with a background support stand.
It is extremely difficult to collapse it appropriately. B&H has a video up now, but it goes so fast it's very hard to see how he does it. It can be done, but it will take much frustration until you get the hang of it.
The zipper on the bag is very cheaply made, and will break unless all three rings are evened out so that the collapsed background will fit easily into the bag.
If you can get by all that, it is an inexpensive highly portable background that is very useful in setting up an instant studio almost anywhere.

Comments about Impact Collapsible Background - 5 x 7' (Black/White):
The reversal background is excellent for portraits and collapses for easy storage.
There are some wrinkles but when shooting with shallow depth of field they are not noticeable.

This is a great product. Well made material and design. This collapsible background is a breeze to carry with you, set up, switch and breakdown. I used it for headshots and loved the velcro tabs to attach to my backdrop stand. So much easier to work with than a rolled backdrop. End result a huge time saver with all the benefits. This would be a great addition to outdoor portraits as well.

Comments about Impact Collapsible Background - 5 x 7' (Black/White):
I have used this product 4 or 5 times now and haven't had the same problem with wrinkles that other reviewers have. I like it and have found it useful as a makeshift gobo, diffuse reflector and quick backdrop. Its well suited for portraits of a single person but much more than that can become problematic rather quickly.
I would recommend it if you intend to use it for it's strengths.

Comments about Impact Collapsible Background - 5 x 7' (Black/White):
Provides a great background for an instant studio. Despite other reviews, I found this incredibly easy to fold and put away. Yes, the material is a little wrinkly, but if you use a large enough apeture it doesn't show, right? Overall I would recomend this product to anyone looking for something portable and easily stored.

I needed a background for occasional head shots and portraits. This is just perfect. I'm not a pro so I didn't need anything larger or three times the money. Takes a little practice to fold the background. But practice makes perfect! Love the two sided colors.

Easy to use. Works great as a fill or negative.
The white side is not so great as a background stays a bit too wrinkled.

Using this background predominantly for portrait work. It is easy to set up. You should hang this if possible rather than freestanding as it tends to curve a bit. It has velcro straps all around so I hang it from a Savage background holder and secure top and sides to ensure a sturdy and straight setup. Easy to collapse and carry in the bag that comes with it.

I use this as a backdrop for short video informercials. [...] The downside is because it collapses. the fabric wrinkles. I mist water on it and blow it dry. The white and black colors are consistent and it stands against the wall with ease. I use a stand for mine. A lot of folks have a hard time folding this back up. I seem to have mastered the technique and it folds into its bag pretty easily.

It takes a few tries before you can figure out how to collapse it ;) Its a decent size for headshots and its small enough to fit in your car. For one shoot I needed the width more than the height so I flipped it horizontally only to find that the velcro straps are only on 3 sides (top and sides not on bottom). I guess this makes sense but it put me in a pinch. All in all a very handy purchase though and I'd recommend it to everyone.

I use this product for on the go situations when I need a b/w backdrop. It's easy to fold up and opens to a great size. It's great. One thing I don't like is that it doesn't open perfectly flat but has a slight bow to the frame but I guess this is because it folds up so nicely. Highly recommended.

I used this product for baby portraits and other head shots. Works really great on the black side. The white side shows more wrinkles so your subject has to be further away from the background to loose the wrinkles. Great size and not too hard to close back up after you watch a utube video! Overall great product and I will be purchasing other colors of this item.

After I read the reviews I decided to try this collapsible background.
I tried it for a couple of days. I'm not sure if I got a defective or bad one but for me it was impossible stand it up straight. It looks very flimsy and doesn't keep its shape. I tried in different kinds of situations: leaning against a wall, using a background and a light stand with a bar or even hanging it from a background rail from the ceiling... I never got it in the right straight position. I didn't notice so many wrinkles like somebody mentioned in a previous comment. I also didn't have problems to fold it at all. The case looks like it will only be good for a couple of uses, it doesn't look very strong.
I decided to return it, to me it wasn't a good product so I'll stick working with my traditional background support system and fabric backgrounds.

As a portable background for 1 or 2 person portraits, it works great. Wrinkling is a problem, as others have said, but this seems to be the nature of muslin. Its more noticeable on the white side and is the reason I only gave it 4 stars because I believe the manufacturer should provide suggestions for getting rid of them.
The B&H product videos by Joey Quintero must be for another brand because they are opposite for this one. In the video, he shows holding & folding it from one of the shorter ends which doesn't work. The way to do this is grab it by the corners on one of the longer sides and then do the bending & folding - which works then. After many failures, I went to the Impact website and saw this in their pdf instruction sheet, tried it and it works.

I was pleasantly surprised with the size and quality of this background. A spray water bottle eliminated wrinkles pretty quickly with a fan on it. Had to find a video to help fold it back up (there is a video, do not despair! It's easier to fold than you think!) Folds up well, easy, and is a great space saver.

Nice item but exceptionally difficult to fold. The similar, but more expensive Westcott, is of higher quality and folds easily. The Westcott is worth the extra money in my opinion.

Great price and great product for the price. It is a bit difficult to fit back into the carrying case, and if you do keep it in the carrying case, it is bent a little bit. However, this could be because I incorrectly folded it up.
