The LumiQuest SoftBox enlarges and diffuses the light with the flash in the direct flash position. The light is softened and more evenly distributed as it passes through a center-weighted frosted diffuser. The unique design does not block either exposure sensors or auto focus assist beams on most flashes. For use on an individual flash, or to softly illuminate the background in a multiple flash set up.

The LumiQuest shoe-mount softbox is ideal for achieving softer look with reduced shadow definition. It works very well with the diffusion dome mounted on.
Its well thought of design allows the AF-assist illuminator and the ready light in my SB-900 to function unobstructedly.
It is entirely made of plastic with its sides appear to be cardboard reinforced. Its lifespan solely depends on how well you care for it.
The best thing about it is, if not in use, it can be folded completely flat for easy storage.
I paid extra for the cinch strap (with its price it should come free with the softbox) to avoid the sticky mess of the velcro patches on my strobe.
The trick I did in strapping the cinch strap firmly with minimal possibility of movement (which is sliding back and forth or around) is placing three large rubber bands side by side as a base. Now, I can walk around confidently knowing the softbox won't move even if I accidentally bump it off the table corner.
Overall, I am happy with the purchase and the results I get with it.

I've tried several diffusers and this was recommended to me. I like that one can use it while pointing the flash forward. I didn't like that it cut the light by what seemed like a couple of stops. It works okay, but only at close range. All in all, I like the Demb diffuser better and probably won't use this diffuser very often.

This works great and looks so much better than a milk bottle and duct tape.

Use this with my Nikon SB800 flash. Mostly for portraits on location or when travelling. Will look at using it with my other lighting fixtures when I get home.
Softens shadows as it claims. Does a much better job then the plastic dome that came with the SB800.
Does take a few more seconds to attached to flash, but not really an issue.

Comments about LumiQuest SoftBox for Shoe-Mount Flashes:
I'm not too crazy about this. I thought it would work a little bit better than it does, but it does what it's supposed to. You can't expect miracles from a "soft box" this size. As with most LumiQuest products, it folds flat so I generally just leave in it the bag with the rest of the LumiQuest flash attachments I have. It's rare that I need it, but when I do it's just there. Otherwise it doesn't make a big enough difference in my style of shooting to use more often. Obviously, makes a difference at closer ranges if you need to use direct flash.

Comments about LumiQuest SoftBox for Shoe-Mount Flashes:
After reading all the mixed reviews I decided to test it for myself.
Although the manufacturer says "The light is softened and more evenly distributed as it passes through a center-weighted frosted" panel- there by reducing any hot spot one might get when using direct flash, I found that if your subject is near a background you still get a hot spot either to the left or right of the subject while at the same time reducing the strength of the flash by more then 1 f stop. While quick to attach using either the glue on velcro pieces it comes with I spent the extra 9 or 10 dollars to by the wrap around velcro strap that should really be included in order to avoid attaching sticky glue velcro to my 580 EX II that would just get messy on a very hot day anyway. Construction is shabby at best and I could easily see having to buy 3 or 4 of these boxes a year. At the same time I purchased the softbox I also bought a simple slip on dome diffuser for under $10 and was much happier with the result then with the Lumiquest softbox.

I use this for family snap shots and wedding photography. When shooting the candids at the reception this little soft box produces and nice quality light. It is light weight and folds down to take up very little room in my bag. I can see that I may not last too awful long but it also not expensive and can be easily replaced if needed. I use a lastolite soft box for most of the formal photos but it would be impractical to carry that around for the candids and this des the job well.

So it's a little weird and slightly bulky, but I can handle that for the results. I do news photography a lot, the conditions are sometimes unpredictible, and carrying around a softbox just isn't terribly practical! This solves that dilemma.

It does soften the lite when mounted on speedlite. I did purchase optional strap because I did not want to stick velcro to my brand new 580ex II. Very portabe and easy to use. Good value for the price. I bought it for weddings but prefer to use Gary Fong's Light sphere for weddings unless doing close up portraits.

Comments about LumiQuest SoftBox for Shoe-Mount Flashes:
If you ever include humans in your photos, you NEED a diffuser of some sort. I have several, but this is my all-around favorite. It is as big as it can be and still be small. It goes anywhere, never gets in the way, is sturdy, and most importantly, it gives you great light indoors or out. I use it on a Canon Speedlight 580EXII and 430EXII. I also own the Lumiquest SoftboxIII and their ProMax, (and some other fixtures) but this one is my go-to diffuser whenever a flash will be attached to the camera.

Just bought this softbox after reading great reviews and watching demo video. It's very helpful when you don't want to use a lot of setup and lighting equipment to get good soft diffused light cast on your subject.
Fits in any bag and easy to set up and mount on.
