Why did I wait so long to buy a monopod? The B&H combo deal of the Manfrotto 679B monopod with the quick detachable 234 RC head is perfect!Together they work in perfect harmony. Light and easy to master. Where I would leave my cumbersome heavy and cheap tripod behind, I now take my light and high quality Manfrotto monpod along for the day.Tall enough for an easy six footer to view - no stooping! The leg latches are quick and easy to use. Drop down to knee hight in a second. The head very easily transitions from landscape horizontials to portrait verticals. For hot & heavy off hand action, just ditch the stick with the flick of a lever! For less than [$], you just can't beat it!

The Manfrotto 679B monopod is a very sturdy unit. It extends quickly and smoothly w/ flip locking levers. It is not 63 3/4" tall however. It is 61 5/8" tall. This is somewhat of an issue for me as I'm 6'3" (75") tall. The 2 1/8" difference won't effect me too much, but if you are looking for a taller monopod, you'll need to look elsewhere.
Other than that, it has a neat retracting 3/8" and 1/4" thread capability to handle many differnet equipments types. This unit works well with my large and heavy sports lenses, supporting them easily.

Standard pro equipment. Bought this mainly for use with my 70-200 2.8 L series and other longer lens, but have found many other uses for it (especially video and low light). No better value for the money. Also, it doubles as a great walking stick in rough areas.

Great for portable use in low light situations.
Ball head would be a nice addition.

Perfect compliment to my new MH-01 and B2-Pro II. I have used the Bogen 3016 for years. The 679B is every bit as stable. I prefer the black finish to the shiny chrome of the 3016.
When I don't want the tripod along on hikes the monopod is great. If my shots are not sharp I am unhappy. And my L series teles need support.

Comments about Manfrotto 679B Three Section Monopod (Black):
This is my first monopod, and I've only used it once so far. I bought it to use at my daughter's gymnastics meets, and it worked very well when accompanied by my 486RC2 head that I haven't touched in awhile since upgrading to a different one for my tripod. The monopod is not heavy, is solidly built, and provides adequate stability for my needs. On the negative side, it would be nice if it were smaller when completely closed, and the leg extension locks are a little stiff, though that might disappear after some usage. On the length issue, just check your requirements before you buy. While it's not really an issue for me, I can see how a smaller one would be desirable, but presumably, that's more money.
All told, it's a good purchase for the money, and I suspect that I will be using it for many years without any problems.

unexpected release head was very useful. I have had many monopods in the past and EVERY one of them have been a Manfrotto. You can't beat the price and quality. I also use this monopod as a stedicam rig for my dslr's...I get great tracking shots with it - other models are heavier, but by adding a counter weight at the bottom - as light as 5lbs. - you can rock it with out any problem.

I use monopod to make client specific safety videos. Most of my shoots are in rugged industrial type environments. The Manfrotto is reliable and rugged. I especially like the 234RC tilting head. It pairs well with the 679.

This a great support for a 170-500 Sigma lens. I use it almost every day for photographing shorebirds on their southern migration. The three piece construction with two flip latches makes change heights a breeze. Haven't found anything that I don't like about this monopod.

It's a great tripod. I've only had mine for a few weeks, so it really hasn't gone through the gaunlet yet. I assume that it will start to slip after several months of use as all of my other ones have done.

This is the best monopod I've used. Besides a reasonable price, the unit extends easily and locks stead fast in position.
I use it to take auto racing photographs and it holds my Canon 60D coupled with my 70-200 2.8L IS lens perfectly, without worrying about slippage.
The unit's weight also makes it easy to pack and carry from site to site without straining myself.
Great piece of gear!

Comments about Manfrotto 679B Three Section Monopod (Black):
for the price it does it's job well. it doesn't wobble or bend. the metal is solid. easily screws into camcorder. quick joint lock and joint unlock makes it easy to adjust when running.
i only shot with this at a sweet 16 and wedding and gave much much steady captures than without it. it is much cheaper than most stablizers.
although this is the older model, it works as expected.
my only dislike is unlike other tripods i've purchased, manfrotto never comes with a carrying bag, not even the manfrotto tripod i got came with a carrying bag.
thanks manfrotto.
