Strong, durable, could seriously be used as a weapon on the street if necessary.
Found the weight to be spot on. Expanding is a piece of cake. Just hold your camera at the level that you want it, and release one or both of the sturdy clips to let the leg slide to the ground; then lock the clip and shoot.
I definitely would recommend purchasing the quick release 234RC Manfrotto head as being able to take my camera on and off quickly was the difference in whether or not I'd leave the monopod on the sidelines for the day. Don't deal with the time needed to screw it on and off; just buy the quick release head with this.
I found this monopod so very convenient during low light settings. Was able to get some crisp water foundation shots at 1/10. Expands pretty tall. I'm just over 6' and it can get to a length that requires tippytoe stretching.
Now for the cons: obviously it's not a tripod, but you can always get the tripod leg accessory to better assist with preventing camera shake. Don't expect to be able to get night shots without your ISO cranked up. It definitely produces far better than handheld. I did achieve plenty of low light shots that would have required much higher ISO.
Bottom line: Just buy it now. Way more convenient than a tripod, not dorky looking like I thought it may be, but rather quite professional. I had weddings guests come to me thinking I was first shooter for the wedding (I was hired on by the wedding planer to photograph her work).

I thought I might use this to steady my camera while on vacation sightseeing and just mount the camera and carry it, but I didn't think about having a ball head so I could turn the camera. Anyway, it's not recommended to carry the camera on it. Perhaps I'll buy a more expensive one with a ball head mount.

I am shooting with a 600 mm lens on a Canon 7d and this thing holds up like a champ. The price was so good too, I was upset I had spent so much for the last one I had purchased at the local camera shop. They ripped me off. Never again, thanks B&H!

Recieved the 681b and have taken it on photo expeditions to our local state parks here in eastern Iowa. I used it along with the ball head 496rc2 and my nikon D200 w/ 2.8 24 - 85 lens. The monopod works as expected, very solid feel, great workmanship. I found extending the last leg and then using the second leg as a means to adjust the height works best for me. I tried using in low light situations and had my best results around a 2oth of a sec for focal sharpness. the only criticism is the nylon strap slid off, and I had to walk around 2 miles retracing my steps to find the sucker...didn't want to use the starp on the first week of use.
I also found leaving my camera strap hooked to the camera and the camera mounted to the collapsed monopod made the long walk back in the dark alot more comfortable.
No regrets on the Monopod, would highly recommend.

I'm about 6' 3" and I've not found a mono that's tall enough. When I extend this one fully, with a ball head, I have to tip toe to shoot. So if you are tall, this is your mono. And if you get in a scrap, you can always use it for a night stick, very well made, solid, not wimpy at all. Great product, great price.

This is a heavy duty monopod with fat tubing and a fatter handle. I use it with a tilt head or a 501 plate QR depending on the subject and circumstances. The handle took me a while to get used to as it is big. Worked great for shooting a crowded event utilizing only existing light where a tripod would have been a nightmare. I didn't look at these in person before I ordered and may have purchased a different one. With a capacity of 26 pounds it is sturdy but fat. I was paying attention to height specs and thought that more capacity would be good, The downside is diameter size. I would not recommend this model for hiking/backpacking unless you need the high capacity. There are lighter thinner monopods suited for that. For events and shooting where the weight is not an issue, the extra mass may help stabilize the camera. I use it with a canon 7D for both still and video use. Works well. I haven't had it long enough to discuss the clamping mechanisms.

I put the Manfrotto 681B Monopod with the 234RC swivel head to work immediatly after taking it out of the box. I use it primarily for photographing sports and wildlife, but have also found it useful for landscapes and portraits. With the monopod I get a greater number of "keeper" photo's than without. The Manfrotto is very sturdy, lightweight, and easy to set-up and move around. I highly recommend it for the serious photographer.

I purchased the Manfrotto 559B before this one and was very unhappy. The specs said the monopod could hold 9.9lbs but I doubt this. However, this monopod is rock solid. I have no fear about mounting my Canon XA10 ontop. I used it at a wedding last week and it was great to hold up above the crowd for an overhead view. No bend or flex. I think I could use this as a baseball bat. It has a retracting thread bushing so it can fit either size mounting. A nice feature compared to the screw on version. The wrist strap is a little awkward to use and it can spin around the shaft. Overall very happy.

I use this monopod mainly to support my 7D with the 70-200 IS ii telephoto for events. The clasp rings open and close quickly and it is easy to move around with this monopod despite the weight. The heft gives you confidence that this monopod can handle even heavy telephotos with a full frame gripped body.

This is a stout and sturdy monopod with solid construction. I use this for events when I need to lug around a 200+ telephoto lens. This monopod feels very secure and looks like it will go the distance. Note: it may be too big as a carry on for travel according the B&H sales guys - speak to you airline ahead of time.

I was looking for a new monopod after my last on gave up on me. I had been looking around for something light weight but still had a good solid feel. Ordering online worried me a little but this order turned out great. I could not be more pleased. It has a very solid feel that I can put any lens on and also has very smooth action. It really helps shooting sports.

I use the monopod with a manfrotto ball-head mainly for racing photography. I find the combination invaluable for quick adjustments to ever-changing race situations, especially with heavy film/digital SLR's mounted with large telephoto/zoom lenses. Wonderful item for panning with the action.

This is my second Manfrotto monopod - this one is more heavy duty (holds more weight). It is great and fabulous value for the money. I love that it does not have twist screws but clamp type locking system which enables adjusting the leg much more quickly. I would highly recommend this monopod.

Usual well made construction expected from Manfrotto. Very sturdy.
Having worn out several tripods with flip lock legs this covers those concerns to some degree as each lock is adjustable.

I alread own 2 monopods, but they are not strong enough to hold my "old" Sony Camcorder HDR-250. My 2 monopod would slip down after few minutes of using it. I have had this monopod for at least 4 yrs now and it still performs flawlessly as the day I bought it. I use it for sports, mainly with a 70-200 attached. Often on beaches, on sand and in the salty water. Like I said, flawless after many years of abuse, and it still hasn't a scratch on it! The clamps have never, repeat 'never', needed tightning! Thoroughly recommended!
