The Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs follows in the footsteps of the highly popular and award winning 190X series, but has now been further improved with the use of carbon fiber tubing for its legs. Thanks to innovative production techniques - which allow for high quality 100% carbon tube structures - the 190CX guarantees a higher load capacity and an increased height with a lighter overall weight (-20%) thanks to a completely new design, which allowed to lighten the components.
The 190CXPRO4 is a 4-leg section tripod, with a center column design that allows it to be used in either vertical or horizontal position. By extending the column to its highest vertical position, the column can be swung over to horizontal without removing the head or disassembling the column itself.
The 190CXPRO4 also features several other improvements, such as an improved leg locking system, redesigned angle adjustment levers, and a levelling bubble that is incorporated into the head plate.

My budget was about $500 for a new set of legs and a ball head. My heaviest setup is the 40D with the 70-200 2.8 IS, about 5.25 lbs altogether. I was looking for portability as opposed to a studio rig, so the usual requirements of light weight and the shortest possible folded length were my main concerns.[$] I recommend this setup for travel, as the sticks fold down to under 20" - and the lightweight carbon fiber is easy to carry all day. The only downside to these legs are the feet - you're stuck with the feet as is; there are no spikes available for this model. That's why I rated it 4 stars instead of 5.The day after I bought it I put the legs and the head easily inside a small roller cart, which fit in the overhead compartment on my flight. Later that day I had this setup on a beach (in the salt water) and in a muddy marsh. Both times I simply wiped it down with clean water and let the sun dry it - no harm resulted, to the finish, the sliding action of the legs, etc.The center column is a nice feature. Of course this isn't the best way to shoot portrait, but it works well enough if you don't have an "L" bracket. If you need lightweight carbon fiber sticks, and your budget is similar to mine, these legs are a great deal. Also, you really can't go wrong buying from B&H. Check out their return policy and compare; although I've never needed to return anything, it's nice to know they put the customer's satisfaction first.

It is lightweight and stable. However, two of the three rubber feet have fallen off. Without the feet, the bottom legs are stuck inside the other legs, rendering the tripod useless.

A beautiful work of art with a gitzo head. I am more than satisfied with the tripod. Its packs small and light. This is a good thing because i hate go out in the public with a big old aluminum tripod. I draw too much attention to myself and good shots become hard when people are staring at you instead of continuing on with their lives. Thats when you get good shots.

I chose this model for the carbon fiber weight factor and it is as I expected. This tripod is easy to use and setup and with the light weight feature, it is perfect for the travel, backpacker or general use photographer. I purchased the RC2 Joystick head to compliment the tripod and it works perfectly with this unit to provide an all around excellent product. I am very satisfied with the Manfrotto products.

stable, lightweight, collapsible to an acceptable height especially for traveling. 1 and only issue is if you don't have a ball-head (which 99% of people who uses tripods will use a ball-head), you can only pan left or right, no up and down movement without a ball-head add-on.

The only think better is A LOT more money. This is a nice workhorse tripod with a nice light weight due to the carbon fiber. I like the locking mechanics on the legs. The whole thing feels really solid and I'm happy that it is made in Italy instead of [*]

This is a fantatic sturdy tripod that folds small and is light to pack. The center fold over for low ground macro photos and is extremely stable.

This was the most expensive carbon fiber tripod that I can afford, but I found that with the center column extended just a little bit, that it was too shaky, even with a Canon rebel with 55mm lens.

Comments about Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
I bought the 190CXPRO4 Carbon Fiber Tripod with the 054 Magnesium Ball Head with Q2 QR, the MBAG70N Unpadded Tripod Bag, and an extra 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate. I am absolutely thrilled with everything I bought.
I have an old and trusty Bogen 3221Pro aluminum tripod that will last longer than I will. The trouble is that it's too big and too heavy to travel with or carry any distance. This new setup, at 4.3 lbs. (with head), must be half the weight and it is much more compact. A great tripod setup that is too heavy gets left home too many times. This setup will travel with me everywhere.
For still photography, I would highly recommend the Manfrotto head I bought. It is designed for the 190CXPRO4 Carbon Fiber and is a joy to use. The magnesium construction makes it expensive, but it makes a difference in overall balance with the light weight legs. Both the tripod and the head have bubble levels. I level out the tripod first, then the ball head (if I want a level shot) and then add in the built in level on my Canon 60D. With such a light setup, you want your gear leveled so that it doesn't fall over for being off balance. The controls on both the head and tripod are really nice – precise and firm at the same time.
The bag I bought is a nice addition. It's just the right size for this tripod and head. With more than $500 worth of tripod gear, I thought it would make sense to try to protect it all. There is extra room for a monopod if needed.
Throw in an extra quick release plate for another camera or telephoto lens and there you have it. I'm happy with this setup.

This is my first tripod so I don't own anything to compare to but it works great for me. Been using it with my Canon XSI/24-70. Mainly bought it for low light landscape scenery. I got a Manfrotto 494 Mini Ball Head w/RC2 QR Plate to use with it. Seems to be a good combo for travel.
I got the Manfrotto 25" Tripod Bag to carry it around. The bag is a little loose diameter wise but it will work for now. Folded it could fit in something with alittle over 4" in diam. and 24.5" in lenght with the 494.

Comments about Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
I use this as the backbone of my macro studio. It is solid as a rock holding the focusing rail upon which my Canon 7D is mounted. I can even use it with the MPE 65 Canon lens, which is manual focus and VERY sensitive to the slightest change in position. I have a fairly heavy ring lite (the Canon 24) which doesn't seem to phase this tripod. It will fold completely flat, and the perpendicular adjustment is great. It also does well with a 50mm and a 100mm Canon with an extension tube. I do have a Manfrotto ball head mounted on it, but that is only to give the additional flexibility of different angles. Night shots are no problem.

Comments about Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
I had this one earlier - sold it for a Gitzo 2541. The Gitzo is ultra-portable (only with a Markins q3T dedicated head), but feels a bit flimsy at the locks and takes a long time to deploy and fold. So I bought the Manfrotto 190CXPro4 back as my main workhorse - keeping the Gitzo where I have to pack light. Highly recommended.

Comments about Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
I use this tripod for hiking and travel. I bought it in combination with the 496RC2 ballhead.
The combination tripod / ballhead is more than suitable for supporting a DSLR with a 300mm lens, is light to carry, and fits easily in a normal hiking backpack.
The tripod extends to a good height especially for a person of 1m80 (about 6 feet). The center column that swings in horizontal position is very nice, especially for macro.
The snap locks are released easily but extending the legs can be a little jerky. According to reviews however, the Manfrotto snap lock mechanism should be more robust in dirty environment than the twist lock type.
This is certainly the best value CF tripod out there, especially when combined with the 496RC2 ballhead.
