Comments about V.I.O. POV.1 Digital Helmet Camera System:
Got one for a bycyle shoot to compliment HDV footage. Was going to use it for bike POV shots. Got it out of the box plugged it in walked around the yard shooting test footage. Played it back to dicover a soft over compressed washed out color image. Also suffered from digital blocky drop outs. Then the unit failed, would not see the attached camera head... Poor quality control.. Not for professional use... A toy...

Comments about V.I.O. POV.1 Digital Helmet Camera System:
My experience has been tempered a bit due to problems with the resulting video. My initial camera unit produced periodic artifacts that were distracting. I contacted V.I.O. customer service and they seemed hesitant to do anything. Finally, they decided to check it out. I spent $50 sending it to them. Two weeks later they sent it back with a new camera head. However, the artifacts are still there. I bought another camera head and it too lead to distracting artifacts. I went around again with V.I.O. customer service and they have finally agreed to replace the recording unit. Now I just need to save up another $50 for shipping. I really like the unit and want it to work, but I think that it is a hit or miss whether you get one that works correctly out of the box. I am not encouraged by the slow response and push-back that I have received from V.I.O. customer service. So, if you order one, test it immediately [...] I waited too long and I am stuck with the less responsive V.I.O. customer service.

Comments about V.I.O. POV.1 Digital Helmet Camera System:
While I am still learning to use this device I am very impressed, very easy to use - I'll read the directions later simple! I made 3 quick clips totaling 38 minutes and about 800Mb in 640x480 format and the quality looks great on my 17" laptop in full screen. I did a hurry up mounting to my sunvisor in the CRV and it did not jitter at all over big and small speed bumps or rumble strips. I'm an offroader so speedbumps are not for crawling over. :-) I need to work on my placement for catching clean audio but overall my roughshod install performed better than I had expected. Can't wait to try it out on my bike next!

Comments about V.I.O. POV.1 Digital Helmet Camera System:
I use this product for action sport. Biking in summer and snow (ski and sled) in winter.
Good things
-can be easy to use
-the best quality for pencil cams out there
-solid state clips make for on site editing and easy to categorize while editing.
Bad things
-I bought a year ago and lens is not wide enough. There is a new lens which I have ordered but am not using.
-The remote wrist piece is unrealizable. It's easy to blow a shot if you don't check that it actually worked to start recording. The sound that lets you know you have hit record is easily drowned out in wind.
-Chews batteries in the cold really fast. I'll go through a set of batteries in a morning.
-sun glare makes some shots unusable. The cam is auto focus so if you ride from shadow through a bright patch to shadow again then expect to get blown out.
I think it's the best pov out there right now but it's still lacking.

Comments about V.I.O. POV.1 Digital Helmet Camera System:
Have been using this camera system on an Aussie cop show for over 12 months now and cant speak highly enough about it. We use it mounted to the windscreen of the police car facing out across the bonnet capturing all the action infront of the car. We have caught high speed chases, crashes and all sorts of traffic choas on on this little system and then transfer to mini DV for editing. Its 4:3 and highest setting looks fine for a POV system.

Comments about V.I.O. POV.1 Digital Helmet Camera System:
I bought this product for a documentary I am creating on powerboat races. Ironically the helmet that we attached it to was the winning boat. After the race, the winning boat was accused of "crowding and cutting off" other boats. The POV cam proved otherwise and the disputes were denied and the win stood.
The clarity of the video is great SD. Good enough that you could up convert it or just integrate it into your HD productions. Audio is good considering and very usable in many productions. The unit gives you adjustments to mic level for those loud situations.
The product comes complete with mounting tools and a great carrying case with everything you need to get started. Creativity in mounting is a necessity for all that use it. I have found that using car GPS mounts work well too!
One disadvantage is that they use DVIX to encode and most NLE's have a bit of trouble with that format. Excellent support from the company (VIO) on how to resolve this issue (suggested using Nic's 4cc Changer. They are aware of the issue and will be posting more info onto the website.
I do wish in future versions that the unit could accept a larger SD Card. Right now 2G is the max. A larger card would allow for more time recording.
All in all, I have found other uses and keep finding uses for the camera. It takes some getting use to and mounting it properly (aiming and horizontal positioning) is essential but after a few tries, you will get some great shots.
