The Sony UWP-V1 Wireless Lavalier Microphone System replaces its UWP-C series predecessor with enhancements that include a rugged, all-metal chassis and Mic/Line switchable input at the transmitter. PLL-synthesized tuning, space-diversity reception and all other professional wireless features that made the UWP-C series a popular choice, go into the enhanced UWP-V1 system.

The camera-mountable receiver features space-diversity technology which stabilizes reception and minimizes RF interference by selecting the strongest incoming signal. In addition the antennas swivel so that you can achieve even stronger reception. A stereo mini jack output with monitor volume control is featured and both stereo, mini and XLR cables are provided. An LCD display provides channel & frequency information, battery life, RF-input level, audio-output status and accumulated operating time. The receiver operates on 2 AA batteries for up to 8 hours and its compact design and included shoe-mount adapter allows easy mounting to most camcorders.

The improved body-pack transmitter features a microphone and line level input switch. This allows wireless transmission of microphone or line level signals. Like the receiver, the body-pack transmitter also features 188 selectable UHF frequencies and operates up to 8 hours on 2 AA size alkaline batteries. An omnidirectonal lavalier microphone is supplied with this system.

Improved All Metal Construction
The transmitter and receiver both feature metal construction for maximum durability on the road.
Mic and Line Input Switch
The transmitter features microphone and line level switching for transmitting microphones or line level signal sources.
UHF Synthesized Frequencies
Both transmitter and receiver provide 188 user selectable frequencies, providing plenty of options when interference is present.
Space Diversity Receiver
The receiver features a space diversity design which simply chooses the strongest signal between the dual incoming signals, then sends that signal to output.
Selectable RF Output
The transmitter allows selection between 5mW output power and 30mW output. 5mW is suitable for indoor, simultaneous multi-channel operation while 30mW is intended for outdoor, long-range use.
Comprehensive Display
Both transmitter and receiver feature a comprehensive LED display providing channel and frequency information, battery life, total usage time and more.
Omnidirectional Lavalier
A high-quality omnidirectional lavalier microphone provides the sonic quality needed to handle professional and non-professional applications.

We make fly fishing DVDs and have been having audio problems with the previous VHF wireless mic system we were using. The problem we encountered was interference or total loss of signal once we were more than 50 foot from the camera.

The UWP-V1 has now overcome these problems, in fact it has more than met our expectations. Our first field trials had it working without any problems up to 300 feet away, more than we would ever need - outstanding performance!

Using UHF is a great bonus, as is the vast number of channels you have to choose from to prevent interference from other external sources and we really like the auto search function that will find the first free channel for you.

For our first test we simply used the system straight out of the box, just added batteries, ensured the transmitter and receiver were on the same frequency and away we went.

It is very durable, small to carry around and looks great on the camera. On top of that it all works and works well, what more could you ask for!

The only change I have made is an addition of a small dead cat on the mic - had to make this one - to ensure the wind on some wild rivers was not a problem. During normal conditions the foam mic covers that come with the unit work well.

I use this product for in house recording and production of our training videos. The product works great. Reading the manual is a must. The sound quality, compared to our previous Azden Pro Wireless System is much, much better. The only complaint is that the sender and receiver have to be a certain distance apart in order for them to work properly...took me a while to figure this out, and it was a little frustrating. I would not recommend this system for anyone recording in small space or room.

Comments about Sony UWP-V1 Wireless Lavalier Microphone Package (30/32 - 566 to 590MHz):

I bought two of these wireless Lav packages about a month ago to augment my wired audio techinica lavs. I'll probably never need to use the wired lavs again.

These wireless miss are easy to set up - they remember their pairings and sound great.

I and my clients have been very happy with their performance and the "look ma, no wires" aspect of these.

I looked at a lot of mics and bought these because they are UHF and less prone to interference, they got great ratings, and they are made by Sony.

My only grips is that each comes with only one mic clip. And replacements are really expensive for what you get. But that's a small gripe.

This is a great mic, definitely goes head to head with the seinheiser. The audio sensitivity is there and it's $100 less definitely a good buy.

Comments about Sony UWP-V1 Wireless Lavalier Microphone Package (30/32 - 566 to 590MHz):

I have been using this to capture sound into my JVC camera for primarily indoor video shooting. I like that the sound is very clear and the units both feel very solid. I have not had to do any frequency searching, except while practicing how to do it. The receiver unit mounts nicely on the cold shoe on top of my camera. The kit includes both XLR and a stereo minijack, which is nice since i can use either plug on my camera depending on how i want to control the sound. I ordered an extra mic cable, since thats usually the first thing to fail. Battery use has been very good through the first dozen hours or so. Batteries are easy to change even while the receiver is shoed up.

A couple things i ran into. When plugging in the XLR, my camera has a setting for the shotgun mic that feeds voltage into the mic cable. Youre not supposed to feed that back into this unit, so make sure yours is off before plugging in. Second, the XLR cable on my camera is mono in, and records different XLR signals on L snd R. This works really well with speech which doesnt have much stereo to it, and really well with two mic inputs for two speakers, since its very easy to both balance the channels and differentiate the speakers in post.

All in all im very happy with this kit, and am planning to buy another one as i add new projects so i have the ability to do multiple speakers in a single shot.

I used this to film small documentaries - the sound quality is great - I debated about getting cheaper models of wireless lavalier mics, but I think the price is well worth it!

The build is solid - metal casings - as a newbie to wireless mics, I still am having trouble trying to figure out how to change channels, but overall - this is a great product!

After an initial problem connecting the camera to the receiving unit, for some reason the angled connector needed to be plugged in to the camera, and would not work if it was connected to the receiver, it worked like a charm.

I live in Canada and wasn't sure about what frequency range to pick as I wasn't able to find this info on the net. I decided to go with the 566 to 590MHz after some research and the transmission is great.

The audio quality is good and provides a better sound than my Rode NTG-2 Shotgun Microphone when in a loud or echo place.

I am using this with my Sony FS100 and I am getting 0 wireless issues.

Comments about Sony UWP-V1 Wireless Lavalier Microphone Package (30/32 - 566 to 590MHz):

I did a lot of research before purchasing this unit. I was leading a workshop and recording to video for future promo purposes. Many of the less expensive units were not rated well. It seemed that had I gone with a cheaper make and model, I would be spending more time fixing the audio for broadcast than actually getting the video on air.
The Sony UWP-V! really delivered well. It worked great on the camera during our testing and performed the same during the workshop. The metal casing not only provides protection, but gives the unit a solid, professional feel. The mic provided a clearer sound than other models I have used. Very good entry unit in the mid-price range. You could spend less on a different maker, but you'd end up spending more in lost productivity fixing the audio deficiencies. It is better to spend the money on a better unit the first time.

I think the Wireless Lav from Sony is fantastic because I can use it with my Hpx 170 and my canon 7d. It is flawless and inexpensive. How can you beat that?

I bought this mic after researching many others in the category, but decided on this one based on the solid metal construction and the sound quality. Sony has a great reputation and has produced a fine microphone that is reasonably priced. The small unit is easy to mount on the camera and does not add too much to the overall weight.

The microphone worked as advertised right out of the box. When asking at a music store about a totally wireless microphone, I was told there was no such thing. The only ones they had needed 110 vAC for the receiver that connects to the camera. I was pleased to discover this one. I used it at a wedding which was held outdoors on a windy day. I had the mic pinned to the officiant's collar. Sound quality and pickup were fantastic. Only problem was the minister stepped back about 10 feet when the couple recited their vows. The mic still picked them up, but not as good as if he had stayed next to them. Biggest complaint is the little wind screens and the clip for the mike come off very easily. Also, the shoe adapter does not fit the Sony Handycam which has a smaller size shoe. I had to find an adapter on line for it.

Comments about Sony UWP-V1 Wireless Lavalier Microphone Package (30/32 - 566 to 590MHz):

I'm a video guy, and I know a little about audio, but am in no way a professional sound person.

So far, though I've used this on one 2 day shoot. I used this in one channel on a Zoom H4n and had the Rode Video Mic plugged into the other channel. I was doing interviews, and had the Video Mic on a boom right above the interviewee's head, and this mic was on their shirt just out of frame. There was a lot of external noise in the area; industrial fans, tractors, cows. I THOUGHT I'd be using the audio from the Video Mic since it's unidirectional, but the sound from the Sony Lav had a consistently nicer quality to it, and usually did a better job keeping the external noise to a minimum, that is when the noise was off in the distance. When the noise was right by us, the unidirectional Video Mic did a better job at ignoring it.

I didn't really get a chance to push the transmitter/receiver under any extraneous circumstances. I had the receiver about 10 feet away from the mic most of the time with nothing to really interfere with the signal.

The windscreens that come with it (x 3) are nice and tiny. I wish I had picked up some extra fuzzy wind jammers, though.

It has a nice rugged metal build. However, WATCH OUT FOR BUG SPRAY. At one point my talent applied a quick spritz of bug spray. I didn't think twice at the time, as I was working on other things, but the bug spray corroded the plastic display window on the mic, and now it is permanently foggy. There's always a lesson on every shoot...

Other note: It would be nice if the receiver was able to get a battery reading from the transmitter.
