I use this head on a Slik Pro Pod 600. Like a mono pod it is a fairly low tech though a very well made item. This is strictly a tilt head which makes it perfect for a mono pod and fairly useless for anything else. Releasing the locking nob slightly retains enough resisteance on the head to make it easy and fast to position your camera. I purchased this head to replace a ball head that was more difficult to adjust.

I purchased this to pair with my Manfrotto monopod per B & H's recommendation.
I would not recommend this head. It is cheap, but you get what you pay for. It is sturdy but does not have a quick release and it is difficult to turn the camera on its side. After purchasing this head, I purchased the 486RC2 Compact Ballhead with Rapid Connect System 2 and have been very happy. It has a quick release and can be turned in an infinite number of directions. It can also be used on a Manfrotto tripod. I would spend a few extra dollars. You will be much happier.

What I was needing for my monopod flexibility.
It would be great with an Arca-Swiss type quick release plate clamp.
The rubber plate detach with stress; glue should be better.

Very good solid item. 5.5 lbs. support sounds like a slight over estimation in my opinion. I think a camera that heavy would slowly rotate (I have to tighten it up pretty hard to keep it still and my camera isn't that heavy). I'm quite happy with it.

Comments about Manfrotto 234 Swivel Tilt Monopod Head - Supports 5.5 lbs (2.5kg):
I bought my first Manfrotto monopod last year from B&W and got the 234RC Swivel Tilt head because I wanted the quick release feature. It works great, but at work (engineering) we have a Manfrotto monopod with this head. I found that it is quicker to attach a small camera with this head than it is taking off the release plate, attaching the camera, and mounting the plate/camera. If you know you will be removing the camera and remounting it, then get one of the quick release heads. If you will keep the camera on for a while, then remove it for a while, this mounts very quickly as the screw wheel is easily operated with one hand to mount the camera quickly. I will alternate between heads, maybe use this on a macro stand I am building, etc. Typical Manfrotto quality, inexpensive, and increases my versatility options.

I actually used this to mount a monopod under one side of my Konova Slider (tripod on the other side). It is strong and heavy duty, but I wish I could have found one a tad lighter...not a huge deal.
The Mount is changeable from 1/4" 20 to 3/8", although you have to take the main bolt apart, but again not a big deal, I am glad Bogen gave us the option to choose!
It would be awesome if Bogen made one similar to this but in aluminum or HDPE...for less stressful applications.

I'LL BE USING THE MONOPOD HEAD NATURALY IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE MONOPOD I'VE RECENTLY PURCHASED BECAUSE OF ITS COMPACTABILITY AND EASE OF USE. WHEN ON HOLIDAY, OR LOCALLY, AND WHETHER TAKING LANDSCAPES OR NATURE PHOTOGRAPHS, I BELIEVE THIS WILL BE A GREAT ASSET TO MY EXISTING KIT.

With a quick release plate on top it serves my needs best as it only tilts. A typical ball head wobbles in all directions and makes quick alignment more time consuming and frustrating. Tripod collar on the lens allows for left/right alignment.

Perfect to attach a small camcorder to a monopod for up close work with venomous snakes, for instance, snapping turtles, wasp nests, etc - situations in which you want the camera in close, but you stay comfortably far away.
The base 1/4x20 monopod adapter insert unscrews and exposes a 3/8 inch stud so you can mount the tilt head on a mic boom pole for an even longer reach.
Heavy, well made.

This is all you need for a monopod: essential (no fluid head), but strong (made of strong plastic and metal)

Well made (in Italy), smooth tilt, metal design. The camera fixing screw is reversible so you can use the 1/4-20 for going direct to a body or the 3/8-16 for going to a clamp.
The base female threads are 3/8-16 but comes with a 1/4-20 adapter insert.

Comments about Manfrotto 234 Swivel Tilt Monopod Head - Supports 5.5 lbs (2.5kg):
This is a step up from the previous Manfrotto 3232 as it has a reversible camera mounting stud that is 1/4"and 3/8". Also the tilt lock knob is a longer 2 sided one, rather than the smaller 4 sided one of 3232, making it easier to tighten...All in all an excellent head!
