This is a thoroughly professional product!
This is the Quick Release adaptor that came with my Manfrotto Gimbal head, and the plate has sufficeint travel to allow for perfect free floating balance with all the rigs I use on the gimbal head. However, the ability of the plate to slide in the adapter creates a potential for disaster in that if you forgot to lock the plate in place it could slide out of the adaptor with disastrous results. Manfrotto has therefore included a "fool proof" safety catch that keeps the plate from sliding out of the adaptor even when not locked in place, and that feature has saved me from disaster more than once!
The plate is also a good size, and will support most ring mounted lenses on a flat surface (e.g. railing or window sill) for "handheld" shots when a tripod is inconvenient or difficult to position (such as when shooting out of your car window).
All in all I love this system and have purchased mounting plates for all my lenses, and leave them attached to the lenses at all times.

I really wanted to give this plate 5 stars and be done with it, because after all, it is a quick release plate, so it should do its job and be fine. Well, I wish it were that simple. I actually purchased this for my glidecam 2000 pro and mounted it on top to allow quick camera dismounts and changes. The only problem with that is that the plate has to be mounted on the FAR right hand side of the glidecam because the thumb screw is so long that it won't complete a turn because the thumb screw is so close to the glidecam. Now.. THIS problem I could overlook, because after all, this wasn't make JUST for the Glidecam, so I will give them a pass on this, but I did want to let glidecam users know of this problem in the event you are purchasing it for that.
The other problem and the one that I really think reflects a design problem is another issue with the thumb screw. When I mount my Z1U on ANYTHING with this mount, the thumb screw scrapes up against the underside of the camera on EVERY turn. And when I say scrapes, I mean in order to compelete a full rotation of the thumb screw it has to gauge into the plastic on the underside of the camera. To me this was just inexcusable because I like to keep my gear looking nice. So I ended up having to take a Dremel tool and sawing down the thumbscrew to a round nub. It makes it a LITTLE more difficult to turn, but it solved both issues I had with the plate and was VERY MUCH worth doing.
Now, the good thing about this mount is that it is sturdy and probably one of the best built quick release plates I have ever used. The longer mounting plate gives a nice sturdy connection and I have yet to have any issues with bounce on my glidecam. It is solid for sure and holds up very well. It is also a must have for glidecam users and despite the one big flaw I listed above, it is still the best choice out there.

I bought this adapter to use with my Canon 60D and it works perfectly. The quick release button really helps to easily remove the camera from my tripod and place the camera on the rig.

This is a professional grade plate. It holds my T3i securely and I can easily adjust the camera along the sliding track. This plate would easily hold heavier cameras. It does add weight to my dslr rig but the security and stability are worth the extra weight.

I'm using it as a base plate for my redrock micro shoulder mount rig. It saved me big $$$$. It all adds up:). The only thing they could improve is for there to be more threaded holes at the base. But I'm not complaining.

I've used this plate for years with an HD camcorder, which needs balancing depending on battery size and lens mountings.
Some comments here complain about not being able to turn the tightening lever enough because it interferes with something. Manfrotto should have advertised their clever little feature more--just pull the lever AWAY from the body (it's spring-loaded) and turn the lever to a more suitable angle, then snap it back in. No more issue.

I bought this to use on a shoulder rig I made for my EX1R. It works really well. There is 80mm of ajustment range on this quick release plate, so setting up the balance is easy.I have had no problems with the locking handle hitting the bottom of my camera. If I did, it wouldn't be a problem because its on a spring and you can pull it out to readjust the angle.

This plate is awesome. It's super sturdy at locks the camera in nice and tight. The only problem with it, is that the screw that you use to tighten it in, goes down lower than the actual base. In turn, it you put this in anything such as a spider dolly, stedicam, fig rig etc, its going to get in the way. I put it on a home made fig rig and I had to put a riser underneath it for clearance. Was this that big of a deal? Not really, but I did have to paint the riser and drill through it to match. Other than that, super solid, locks in tight and the safety feature works like a charm. It's actually saved my camera from hitting the floor once already.

I use a bunch of these for swapping cameras from tripods, Steadicams, jibs, etc. It's a quick release, and that's what it does. What more could you want.

Comments about Manfrotto 357 Pro Quick Release Adapter with 357PL Plate:
The plate is as advertised, well made and works smoothly in typical Manfrotto style.
I bought this to mount on my Sachtler DV-6SB tripod head to help balance my Panasonic HMC80 camera. The range of fore and aft adjustment with the stock Sachtler wedge plate does not permit balancing this camera properly and I thought a little more sliding range would help. However, on the Sachtler, the locking knob for the camera plate on the Manfrotto adapter is blocked and cannot be tightened. Also, the long wedge plate projects over the shoulder pad on the HMC80 and makes it uncomfortable to shoulder mount. Removing the plate from the camera each time I take it off the tripod defeats the purpose of a quick release in the first place. Still looking for a solution to my balance problem; this wasn't it.

Its a nice piece of equipment, I am glad I bought it but, It is bigger than I expected, doesn't attach to the 501 head. The pad strips are starting to come off after just 2 or 3 days. It is handy to have around for different applications. I am using it on my slider.

These are fantastic. I got one to leave with my teleprompter kit. It makes setting it up a breeze. I get it balanced on the tripod and then i leave the top part attached so that i never have to rebalance again with my tripod plate. I just attach the bottom piece to my tripod, slide my teleprompter kit on and go! love it!

Excellent product! I use it in a video shooting of weddings and anniversaries. Allows to rearrange quickly the chamber with steadicam on a support and back. Thereby saves time. For work it is necessary to buy so much quick-detachable platforms of versions of the equipment equal by quantity which you will use.

Comments about Manfrotto 357 Pro Quick Release Adapter with 357PL Plate:
I bought this QR sliding plate for primarily to use with a Flycam Nano and Samsung S10 camcorder, and another which I use on a tripod. The second plate is used on a Canon Rebel XTi.When used with the Flycam, which does not have fine adjustment knobs, this system allows for much finer increments of displacement for balancing which comes in use when filters or lens adapters are used on the camcorder. When I need to switch between tripod and Flycam quickly, this system lets me change and balance the systems much faster than without (ie. it does its job).I'm not sure if I really needed the full 80mm travel, but I feel as though the 20mm provided by the Manfrotto 577 QR may not be enough for balancing. If there was an option of around 40mm, that would be best since the sliding plate slightly extends beyond the sides of my XTi which is a bit annoying. I will be looking into whether or not the 501 plate can be used with the 357 adapter for use with my XTi.The construction is sturdy, at the cost of added weight. The anti-twist video register pin works well, and can be pushed out of the way when used with a camera which does not support that feature. The secondary safety system prevents the plate from sliding out of the adapter when the knob is not tightened.Overall, a well made system which slightly is oversized for my needs. 5 stars for the purpose it is meant to serve, 4 for my purposes.

Comments about Manfrotto 357 Pro Quick Release Adapter with 357PL Plate:
I bought this QR plate for use with my dSLR shoulder rig/rails system. The sliding plate makes mounting and removing my camera fast and easy, despite a fairly cramped cage that surrounds the dSLR body. This style of plate also makes balancing the rig easier, and I can fine-tune my camera's position within the cage to align it with other mounted accessories.
As you'd expect from Manfrotto, the build quality is excellent, and I appreciate the spare quarter-20 and 3/8 screws that are provided. There are also ports included on the base plate for storing the spares. Nice touch.
This plate should also prove versatile. For mounting a dSLR, I could have managed with a less robust QR plate. But this one should easily handle a larger camcorder like an EX-1 or the new 'dSLR-killer' cameras from Sony and Panasonic. That's important, since I expect my rails system to outlast my camera.
My only complaint is the tightening knob. It's too large, and as a result it collides with the bottom of the camera when you try to tighten. I can finesse my way around the problem, but it's an irritating oversight.
