I read the reviews before buying this and was a little worried that it was going to be a cheaply made piece of plastic that would break after a few uses. Wrong. I don't know what people are doing to this mount to get it to break but it seems well made to me. Sure, it's mostly plastic, but it's strong plastic and the hot shoe mount and pivot are metal where it counts and seem quite sturdy. The rubber suspension rings that hold the mic seem pretty tough as well.
I guess if you just screwed this mount onto a boom pole and started beating it against the wall or if you installed the microphone by cramming it through the rubber rings as hard as you can, then sure, I guess something might break. Just be gentle with it and it should last a long time. When you install the mic, work the mic slowly into the rings, pulling each one back a little at a time so you're not stretching the rubber and you shouldn't have any problems.

I used the shockmount either on top of my camera, or at the end of a boom pole. The bottom of the shockmount, the "shoe" actually came apart after the first week of using it. You can tell if yours will come apart also if the head starts to wobble to and fro. Sent back to B&H, waiting on a replacement. When it works, it works great, but I think the initial design flaw hinders a perfect rating. The rubber used to hold the mic in place is great.

Comments about Pearstone DUSM-1 Universal Shock Mount for Camera Shoes and Boompoles:
This shock mount looks like it's made of cheap plastic, but I've found it to be quite durable for field use. The rubber suspension works well and eliminates handling noise. Slipping the mic on and off is a bit of a nuisance, even if one follows the manufacturer's advice and slips the rubber suspensions on and off rather than push the mic in and out. But for the price, one can't complain too much!

Comments about Pearstone DUSM-1 Universal Shock Mount for Camera Shoes and Boompoles:
This shock mount came as part of a kit with my Rode NTG-1 Shotgun Condenser Mic. I like that even if the camera gets bumped, the mic has additional shock padding to deter the rattles. Since it sits a bit higher on the camera's hot shoe, it keeps the shorter NTG-1 from getting in the lens, even with a wind cover.

Comments about Pearstone DUSM-1 Universal Shock Mount for Camera Shoes and Boompoles:
Very secure grip on the shotgun, makes it harder to get in but you know your mic is held securely. I would recommend removing the suspension straps with the mic if you plan on using this mount with a particular mic very often. Much easier to mount and dismount if you keep the suspension attached to the mic. The ability to use this in a hot shoe mount on a DSL is very nice, not completely needed for my use, but nice to have just in case, and it is the same price as the Rode shockmount. Also attaches to a boompole as normal. Seems sturdy and durable. Replacement suspension parts are cheap enough if these wear out from pulling a mic in and out constantly.

This is a great little product. One issue I do have with it, is the mount is a bit more fragile than I would like. But! With B&H's 1 year no fault warranty I am happy to hang my mic on this cool little tool!

I use this to mount a shotgun with softie on my camera's hot shoe. This keeps the softie out of the frame on wide-angle shots. The mount works very well at isolating unwanted noise from handling the camera. This setup does introduce extra camera vibration when shooting in gusty wind. In short, this Pearstone mount holds the mic snugly and silently.

Straight and simple, a great way to attach a shotgun microphone to a hotshoe. I use it with a NTG-2 Microphone attached to a Canon 7d. Works great and is very stable.

The USDM-1 works great on my orbital camera rig as it holds our shotgun mic and insulates against any noise. It is a great product with a very low price.

I bought the shock mount for use with my Rode NTG-2 mic. So far I've used this on both boom and hand held supports and is a must have for any shotgun mic user!!

holds mic good and tight. I like that shoe can be put in sidways as well as forward or backward. that worked for my flash bracket so I could put the bracket to the rear of the camera, to keep shotgun out of range of lens.

Saved my recorder! I got this for my zoom h1 recorder because it has the most handling noise out of any recorder I've previously worked with. This shock mount lets me eliminate that completely, letting the h1 do it's job with the outstanding quality the device was designed for. Zoom should include this with every h1 they sell, because without this shock mount, the h1 is a piece of junk.

I received this shock mount with the Rode NTG-2 kit and was pleasantly surprised that they included such a nice shock mount.
I had to tighten the set screw on the bottom of the mount but after that everything worked fantastic.
It's pretty lightweight too if you're considering this for a DSLR rig.

I'ts not the most awesome shock mount, but you have to own one.
You can't just buy a microphone and then tape it on a broom stick
and expect good results.
This is a must.

Considering that you really have to spend close to $1000 to buy a mic that is minimally capable of capturing professional audio, this mic is the best plan B on the market. It is reasonably priced and you get a quality piece of equipment. Although it may not give you Hollywood-ready audio, it is a wonderfully cheap alternative if $1000 is just out of your reach--like it is for me.

Comments about Pearstone DUSM-1 Universal Shock Mount for Camera Shoes and Boompoles:
It is smaller than I though it would be, but it is solid. The frame and adjustment knob are stong and well made. You have to slowly push a shotgun mic through the rubber rings to get it in. Hold it in your hand to install the mic; I would not try it mounted on a camera because you have to push very hard. I lightly tapped the camera and tripod and listened through pro headphones. The sound is not a problem unless you tap directly on the shockmount.
