The camera incorporates Nikon's acclaimed Vibration Reduction Image Stabilization, which compensates for camera shake to prevent blur and produce clearer, sharper results in lower light or unsteady conditions, and the high sensitivity with ISO setting of up to ISO 6400 reduces motion blur and further assists in shooing under low light conditions. Additionally, the EXPEED Image Processor ensures high-quality pictures with stunning color and sharpness, and provides quick responsiveness so you won't miss that special moment. The Sports Continuous Scene Mode provides fast shooting at up to 13fps, for up to 30 frames to help you stay ahead of the action, and you can also record TV-quality movies with sound.

For the more advanced shooter, the Coolpix P80 incorporates a wide range of exposure control setting including Shutter-Priority, Aperture-Priority and full Manual Exposure Modes while the The D-SLR-type mode dial on the top of the camera provides quick access to these modes. The camera also has a fully automated program mode for quick snapshots, and Nikon Image Innovations such as In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, Face Priority AF, and D-Lighting allow even the most inexperience novice photographers to get stunning results.

The Incredibly bright 2.7-inch High-Resolution LCD on the back of the Coolpix P80 make it easy to compose shots and share your pictures with friends and family - plus the camera also has an electronic viewfinder for more precise framing, or when shooting in bright daylight when the LCD screen is more difficult to see.

10.1 Megapixel Resolution
With 10.1 million pixels of image information, the Nikon Coolpix P80 can produce stunning, photo quality prints up to 20 x 30" while still maintaining the finest image details.
18x Wide-Angle Zoom Lens
The 18x Wide-Angle Zoom-NIKKOR Lens of the Coolpix P80 provides exceptional razor-sharp results, and is built on Nikon's proud heritage of precision camera optics. The lens provides an incredible range of compositional capability with its wide-angle (27mm) to super-telephoto coverage (486mm) and is suitable for a host of shooting applications from sports to wildlife to sweeping vistas.
Optical Vibration Reduction Image Stabilization
The Nikon VR Image Stabilization system incorporated into the NIKKOR Lens compensates for camera shake resulting in sharper images - even when shooting under unsteady conditions such as on a boat, and provides the ability to shoot at shutter speeds as much as three stops slower without blurring the image for sharper natural light images. In addition, the VR system provides faster and clearer framing on the cameras monitor as well as smoother action when using the movie mode.
EXPEED Image Processor
The camera incorporates Nikon's latest EXPEED Image Processor to ensure high-quality pictures with stunning color and sharpness. The EXPEED Image Processor - part of Nikon's comprehensive digital imaging processing concept incorporates the know-how and the technologies acquired throughout Nikon's long history of photographic and digital imaging development, and renders natural-looking pictures of incredible quality while also providing quick responsiveness so you won't miss that special moment.
Bright 2.7" LCD & Electronic Viewfinder
The High-Resolution LCD Display is bright enough to be clearly viewable under most shooting conditions and its large 2.7" size means that you can easily share pictures with family and friends right on the spot, while the incorporation of the high-resolution electronic viewfinder enables you to easily frame your images even under the most difficult lighting conditions and provides precision framing that is well suited to macro photography.
Easy-to-use Shooting Modes
In addition to a selection of scene-optimized modes and movie modes, the handy Mode dial also allows users to easily select the Programmed Auto [P] mode which automatically selects the optimal camera settings, Shutter-Priority (S), Aperture-Priority (A), and Manual [M] exposure modes to provides full control over both the aperture and shutter speed settings and provide greater personal control over camera operation.
High ISO Capability
The Coolpix P80 makes it easier to take great-looking pictures in lower lighting conditions, or to capture fast moving subjects with outstanding clarity thanks to its high sensitivity with Auto Adjusts up to ISO 6400 (ISO 3200 and ISO 6400 settings are available at 3MP or lower resolution), while its image-processing engine with enhanced noise reduction preserves high image quality when shooting at high ISO settings.
Sports Continuous Scene Mode
With the fast Sports Continuous scene mode, the P80 can shoot up to 13 fps, for up to 30 frames (with the resolution set to 3MP or lower), making the camera an excellent choice for sports or action photography so you'll capture all of the action, or you can use it to analyze your golf swing.
1:1 Format Image Capture
Shoot pictures with a more traditional framing and composition thanks to the 1:1 (square) format option. The camera also provides 2:3 format for easier printing and 16:9 format for viewing on wide format video displays.
Nikon In-Camera Innovations
The Coolpix P80 incorporates Nikon In-Camera innovations including In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, Face Priority AF, and D-Lighting. The Nikon In-Camera Red-Eye Fix system automatically corrects for most instances of the red-eye effect that is commonly caused by the use of a built-in flash on a compact camera. The Face-Priority AF system automatically detects and achieves sharp focus on people's faces wherever they are in the frame for crisp, sharp portraits. The Nikon D-Lighting feature can rescue underexposed images or shots taken with too much backlight by automatically brightening the dark areas in the picture, while maintaining the brighter areas of the image.
High Quality TV Movies with Sound
Shoot broadcast quality video clips in AVI Motion JPEG format with VGA resolution at 30 frames per second at a clip length that is only limited by the available space on the internal memory or your SD memory card.
Built-in and Expandable Memory
The camera includes 50 MB of built-in memory, and the memory capacity can be expanded dramatically with Secure digital (SD) or Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) memory cards.
PictBridge Compatibility
Simply connect the Coolpix P80 to a PictBridge compatible printer with the included USB cable, engage the direct print feature, and print high quality photos without the need for a computer. The direct print feature allows you to select all images or just the images you like best, and even make multiple copies to share with family and friends.

This is a great camera if you want to have all features in one camera, like size, zoom, mode features, video, you want it for professional photos but also for travel. otherwise you could probably find other cameras for whatever you prefer I went with this camera because I made a list of what I want and this was the only camera that fit all my needs.
That is, Good video quality, Long zoom, affordable, small but not compact, variety of features, night vision for plays and shows etc., sports continuous mode, and i only wanted a reliable brand.

If you prefer long zoom and you also want good quality photos and videos i don't think you would find anything else as far as my research.

last but not least I can't stop taking pictures in dark places with night portrait mode, it comes out so bright and great quality photos.

DO NOT JUDGE THIS CAMERA BEFORE GOING THROUGH THE MANUAL "TWICE" AND ACTUALY USING THE CAMERA FOR AT LEAST A MONTH, On my first day of using it I was a little disappointed but as soon as I got to know how to use it I ralized how great this camera and its features really are.

I bought the new Nikon Coolpix P80 as a second camera for vacations (my primary is a Nikon D80 DSLR) and as a camera for my wife. Requirements were that it be light, compact, and easy to use--specifically that it not have so many buttons on the back that it is not easy to hold without accidentally pushing one of them. Last, but not least, it had to take good pictures. Fortunately, the P80 meets all those requirements. It is remarkably good in low-light situations, even without flash.

Another reason I chose this camera over so many available digital point-and-shoots is that it has a zoom range from wide angle to very long telephoto--27 to 486 mm, in 35 mm equivalents, which is a remarkable range for such a compact camera.

One feature I found quite convenient is a button to switch between live view on the external LCD or looking through the eyepiece at the electronic viewfinder (EVF). This choice is handy in bright light when the external LCD may be hard to view. Of course, an EVF is not the same as a live view (a little bit jerky to change views when you move the camera), but I found it satisfactory.

Overall, I am quite satisfied with the P80, which has a lot of flexibility in controls and settings, but I do have a couple of criticisms. It is somewhat slow to turn on and to focus, but perhaps I am spoiled by my DSLR (and my Canon G7, which is categorized in photo magazines as an "advanced point-and-shoot"). I do wish there were a rigid plastic protector for the LCD screen, like there is for Nikon DSLRs, though I have found the Giotto adhesive film screen protectors an acceptable alternative. The one other thing I found took some getting used to is that the flash does not pop up automatically when light conditions would call for flash. In some ways, that's good, because flash is often prohibited in churches and museums, so there is no need to find the control that turns off the flash. As I said, it just took some getting used to.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix P80 Digital Camera:

I purchased this camera and gifted it to my son on his 13th birthday. It is fairly simple to use and has PSAM settings for those who would like to experiment with different settings. My son has been using the "P" setting and has been able to get some nice nature pictures of the fall colors. Eventually I plan to start teaching him how to use the Manual mode, once he is familiar with the basic controls.

The camera is capable of several automated modes, and generally speaking these modes are optimized for a given photographic situation. The fall colors came out nicely with plenty of saturation and contrast. The zoom lens has a lot of reach and my son was able to pick out details of foliage from across a lake.

What is not so great is the fact that the viewfinder is "electronic" and it is not a true SLR-type viewfinder, but of course that is to be expected in a camera in this price range.

I would recommend it for someone who wants a fairly simple camera with a zoom lens and wants to have some flexibility when the situation demands. Perfect for kids. Not so good for serious amateurs because of its poor viewfinder which makes composition a bit of a challenge.

manually release the flash to use it.

I finally moved into the 21st century when I purchased the P80 Nikon ,I love my camera! I gave careful consideration to moving above the point and shoot and spend additional $$ but it was worth every penny. I also got advice from a current owner who highly recommended it. I never knew how much fun and interesting it would be to take shots of anything and everything. I carry my P80 everywhere I go just in case something interesting happens. I would recommend the pop up shade since I use the view finder more, otherwise I am very satisfied.

I have never experienced such clear and precise pictures but then again I never had the eye for print until this little jewel was purchased.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix P80 Digital Camera:

The test that this camera had to pass was photographing active children. I have gotten great shots even when they are on the move. The menu is very easy to use. The pictures are sharp and the color is great.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix P80 Digital Camera:

By far, the main appeal of the P80 is the extremely long optical zoom, a feature rarely found in small automatic cameras. Its compact size and 10.1 megapixel resolution are close seconds. The P80 is ideal for a wildlife enthusiast, birdwatcher, hunter, or anyone who has the need for a good-quality long zoom lens, but doesn't want to make the investment of money and weight in a digital SLR. While not intended to be an ultra-compact camera, the P80 is still small enough to fit in a pocket or purse, and allows high-resolution images from a substantial distance. As a bridge between an amateur point-and-shoot and the features of an SLR, this camera cannot be beaten, in my opinion, for the price.

Easy to use, lightweight and many features. The camera takes very good pictures for its class. There may be a small learning curve and highly recommend reading the manual and pratice.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix P80 Digital Camera:

I use the P80 for quick tight-position stills for inclusion in my daily news video journal.
The 18X optical zoom and vibration reduction function produce better results than cameras costing $100's more.
I wish it output in RAW format; but the JPEG's at 10.1MP make up for it.

Great camera with all facilities we need to travel! Easy to use and small with good image quality. It's only hard to stay stable with full zoom. Need tripod.
I have a professional camera but the P80 took as good pictures as the other.
                  I reccomend it.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix P80 Digital Camera:

The best digital camera I have used so far. Quick and easy to use right from the box. Easy instructions for every detail.
I would recomend it to everyone just starting out using a DSLR.
Only drawback is that you can't keep the auto focus on when making a video. It picks up the sound.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix P80 Digital Camera:

Good: Easy-to-use, tons of flexibility for more advanced users, but also user friendly for those still learning the nuances of photography, great quality pictures, awesome zoom

Bad: Bigger and heavier, not the fastest interface, controls could feel a bit sturdier
