This is a great camera if you want to have all features in one camera, like size, zoom, mode features, video, you want it for professional photos but also for travel. otherwise you could probably find other cameras for whatever you prefer I went with this camera because I made a list of what I want and this was the only camera that fit all my needs.
That is, Good video quality, Long zoom, affordable, small but not compact, variety of features, night vision for plays and shows etc., sports continuous mode, and i only wanted a reliable brand.
If you prefer long zoom and you also want good quality photos and videos i don't think you would find anything else as far as my research.
last but not least I can't stop taking pictures in dark places with night portrait mode, it comes out so bright and great quality photos.
DO NOT JUDGE THIS CAMERA BEFORE GOING THROUGH THE MANUAL "TWICE" AND ACTUALY USING THE CAMERA FOR AT LEAST A MONTH, On my first day of using it I was a little disappointed but as soon as I got to know how to use it I ralized how great this camera and its features really are.

I bought the new Nikon Coolpix P80 as a second camera for vacations (my primary is a Nikon D80 DSLR) and as a camera for my wife. Requirements were that it be light, compact, and easy to use--specifically that it not have so many buttons on the back that it is not easy to hold without accidentally pushing one of them. Last, but not least, it had to take good pictures. Fortunately, the P80 meets all those requirements. It is remarkably good in low-light situations, even without flash.
Another reason I chose this camera over so many available digital point-and-shoots is that it has a zoom range from wide angle to very long telephoto--27 to 486 mm, in 35 mm equivalents, which is a remarkable range for such a compact camera.
One feature I found quite convenient is a button to switch between live view on the external LCD or looking through the eyepiece at the electronic viewfinder (EVF). This choice is handy in bright light when the external LCD may be hard to view. Of course, an EVF is not the same as a live view (a little bit jerky to change views when you move the camera), but I found it satisfactory.
Overall, I am quite satisfied with the P80, which has a lot of flexibility in controls and settings, but I do have a couple of criticisms. It is somewhat slow to turn on and to focus, but perhaps I am spoiled by my DSLR (and my Canon G7, which is categorized in photo magazines as an "advanced point-and-shoot"). I do wish there were a rigid plastic protector for the LCD screen, like there is for Nikon DSLRs, though I have found the Giotto adhesive film screen protectors an acceptable alternative. The one other thing I found took some getting used to is that the flash does not pop up automatically when light conditions would call for flash. In some ways, that's good, because flash is often prohibited in churches and museums, so there is no need to find the control that turns off the flash. As I said, it just took some getting used to.

I am the current Fire Marshal for Collin County, Texas. The camera furnished to me is a Nikon Coolpix P80 and I can say it is probably the best camera I have ever used for crime scene. I am about to retire from Collin County and need a personal camera, so I chose the P80 and the one I recieved so far is exactly what I expected

Comments about Nikon Coolpix P80 Digital Camera:
I purchased this camera and gifted it to my son on his 13th birthday. It is fairly simple to use and has PSAM settings for those who would like to experiment with different settings. My son has been using the "P" setting and has been able to get some nice nature pictures of the fall colors. Eventually I plan to start teaching him how to use the Manual mode, once he is familiar with the basic controls.
The camera is capable of several automated modes, and generally speaking these modes are optimized for a given photographic situation. The fall colors came out nicely with plenty of saturation and contrast. The zoom lens has a lot of reach and my son was able to pick out details of foliage from across a lake.
What is not so great is the fact that the viewfinder is "electronic" and it is not a true SLR-type viewfinder, but of course that is to be expected in a camera in this price range.
I would recommend it for someone who wants a fairly simple camera with a zoom lens and wants to have some flexibility when the situation demands. Perfect for kids. Not so good for serious amateurs because of its poor viewfinder which makes composition a bit of a challenge.

This is a wonderful camera for a photographer who wants a middle between SLR and small digital. It is not a big and bulky as a SLR but better quality than a small digital. It is also easy to use. I highly recommend this product.

The flash coverage is very good at wide angle. You have an option of using the electronic viewfinder in bright light. That is an excellent
feature. It is easy to rotate the photos also. One draw back is having to
manually release the flash to use it.

I finally moved into the 21st century when I purchased the P80 Nikon ,I love my camera! I gave careful consideration to moving above the point and shoot and spend additional $$ but it was worth every penny. I also got advice from a current owner who highly recommended it. I never knew how much fun and interesting it would be to take shots of anything and everything. I carry my P80 everywhere I go just in case something interesting happens. I would recommend the pop up shade since I use the view finder more, otherwise I am very satisfied.
I have never experienced such clear and precise pictures but then again I never had the eye for print until this little jewel was purchased.

I'm just a casual photographer with girls who love to play sports. There's nothing like being able to catch a photo of when the ball leaves the pitchers hand and it's caught by the catcher. Awesome stuff! I'm still learning but definitely am enjoying it!

Comments about Nikon Coolpix P80 Digital Camera:
By far, the main appeal of the P80 is the extremely long optical zoom, a feature rarely found in small automatic cameras. Its compact size and 10.1 megapixel resolution are close seconds. The P80 is ideal for a wildlife enthusiast, birdwatcher, hunter, or anyone who has the need for a good-quality long zoom lens, but doesn't want to make the investment of money and weight in a digital SLR. While not intended to be an ultra-compact camera, the P80 is still small enough to fit in a pocket or purse, and allows high-resolution images from a substantial distance. As a bridge between an amateur point-and-shoot and the features of an SLR, this camera cannot be beaten, in my opinion, for the price.

I use the P80 for quick tight-position stills for inclusion in my daily news video journal.
The 18X optical zoom and vibration reduction function produce better results than cameras costing $100's more.
I wish it output in RAW format; but the JPEG's at 10.1MP make up for it.
