I have purchased other DVD's on sound and video but found that they were more about making a video that they could sell as their content was filled with alot or fluff and short on content. But this DVD was very information packed.
The information was layed out in a fun and interesting way. I would highly reccomend this to anyone wanting to further their knowledge about sound

Comments about Books DVD: Sound for Film and Television by Barry Green and David Jimerson with Matt Gettemeier:
It's about time someone made a tutorial DVD like this. As is often said, sound is over half your picture. And it's true.
This DVD moves at a fairly quick pace showing you differences between poor or average sound, and great sound, and how to get it. It talks about omni microphones, shotgun microphones, lavalier microphones, mics used at various distances, in various atmospheres, room types, filters, everything. Everything you need to know to get going with sound is here. Some of the information is basic and obvious, but there are numerous not so obvious elements, and trade secrets as well. At every step of the way examples are shown (or played) so you can hear the difference on your own.
It is hosted by video expert Barry Green, but also has segments with working sound professionals from the film/video industry.
Worth every penny.

Comments about Books DVD: Sound for Film and Television by Barry Green and David Jimerson with Matt Gettemeier:
I give this DVD 5 stars! Very informational for beginning/intermediate audio for film. I have a bunch of audio books as well, but sometimes its easier to understand if you actually see it. I am an independent filmmaker and right off the bat it helped explain to me how to get better sound even with cheap equipment. Some of the videos are a little corny, but they do make it kind of funny and not just straight technical information. Also, lots of good sound examples of different techniques & microphones. I was worried about the price before I bought this. 'Is [$] really worth it?' But, I have to say that I am very happy with my decision. Great DVD.

I use this product as a reference guide for location sound recording for independent film. In just 5 minutes of viewing this DVD I learned more about sound production for film then I did in over 4 months of classes at the university I attend. "Sound for Film and Television" is insightful, educational, and humorous while providing essential information about the techniques of the trade.

The DVD is really very well prepared. I know now a lot more now about audio for video, and this DVD will save me years of learning by trial and error or less efficient ways of learning. I wish I had washed a video like that 10 years ago! The examples on the DVD make the points of the authors very powerfully: they show the impact of placing the microphone closer to the speakers and choosing a better location based on audio. After watching this DVD I think I will make better choices when choosing audio equipment.
Benefits of watching this DVD:
1) Save money afterwards by knowing where to invest your money on the audio for video equipment.
2) Dramatically improve the quality of you video productions using the equipment you already have or making small investments in some audio equipment (in case you only have at this point a camera and have been using its built in microphone).
I know this DVD is expensive, but it is well worth the money. A must have for College courses of Film / video. Also a great choice for home video recorders wanting to significantly improve the quality of their home productions.

Great introduction to the technique and the gear of sound recording.
Practically everything one would need to know to record sound like a pro - microphone selection and placement; boom selection and handling; what types of mics to use and when; selecting a mixer, as well as an extensive section on lavalier use and placement. All that's missing is the actual experience of recording sound in the field.
I was looking for something that would help me gain an understanding of the essentials one needs to know about sound recording and equipment, this video was it!
