I purchased this set right before a two week trip to Colorado. I see two main advantages over the Nikon GPS and other hotshoe mounted units. First, the receiver is quite small and stays mounted to the camera at all times, even when I'm not using the GPS. It draws very little power. Second, the GPS logger (bluetooth transmitter) can be placed in a location that gets a better signal AND can be used to log a trip, such as vacation travels. It was great having the GPS sitting on the dash and being able to take pictures from the back seat with GPS data embedded - I seriously doubt a hotshoe mounted unit (like the Nikon) would have received a GPS signal in the back seat under the heavy metal roof.

I am not sure the advertised range of 30' is accurate. While the GPS logger/transmitted seemed to have a signal most of the time (it even works in your pocket), having it closer to the camera ensures a better bluetooth connection.

Having a separate GPS unit means that the GPS data is ready the instant you press the shutter button halfway. Other units require you to wait until the GPS unit restarts after the camera has sat idle for a while. With this setup, the separate GPS unit with its own battery power (or plugged into the supplied car adapter) ensures that the GPS data is always ready.

Overall, I am very happy with this purchase!
