The Pocketrak CX from Yamaha delivers full-sized recording features in a pocket-sized design. Built for portability and convenience, the Pocketrak CX can record or play back audio for up to 50 hours on the included Eneloop AA battery. The built-in X-Y microphone has an extremely wide pickup pattern to create a terrific stereo image without the level and phase problems that affect many stereo mics. A mic/line input allows you to connect and record your own mic or other audio source. You can choose to record to Linear PCM or MP3 file formats, and your audio is captured to readily available microSD flash memory cards.
When it comes time to play back your audio, there are multiple options. You can listen via the built-in speaker, the standard 3.5mm headphone jack, or use the USB connector to transfer your audio to a computer for playback and editing. Cubase AI4 editing software is included for your computer, and the recorder itself can apply basic edits to your audio from within the unit. The USB connection can also be used to transfer files to the recorder itself, allowing you to use it as a handy music player.

Comments about Yamaha Pocketrak CX Digital Stereo Audio Recorder:
I use this product during jam sessions and for musical tutorials. It's sound reprouction quality is good and about what I would expected for a product in this price range. Never had any problems running the rechargeable battery down after several hours of use. If you want to use the Cubase software that comes with this product good luck. I found it to be unreasonably cumbersome to register and use. It's not very intuitive and the online reference material is loaded with technical terminology. Good luck with that. I load my recordings onto my computer through the provided USB cable and replay it back through Wavepad to anylize and manipulate the recordings, but you don't need Wavepad for replay, just about any MP3 player will work.
Overall, pretty cool little gadget and at a good price point.

Comments about Yamaha Pocketrak CX Digital Stereo Audio Recorder:
Good quality recordings for such a small package. I record ambient sounds for editing in videos, slid shows etc. It does what I bought it for. The accuracies it came with rounded out the purchase:
The USB cable is a standard cable not preparatory cable
The wind screen was included
Ear buds included
Caring pouch included
The rechargeable battery and Micro SD card provide plenty of recording time.
Re-chargeable battery which charges from USB
Also can use a AA battery

Comments about Yamaha Pocketrak CX Digital Stereo Audio Recorder:
My daughter uses it for her voice lessons. It is small, light, and easy to use. It does an excellent job of recording her lessons. The rechargeable battery and Micro SD card provide plenty of recording time. It includes a speaker but has a mini stereo plug for the included earbuds or for some lightweight headphones.

Comments about Yamaha Pocketrak CX Digital Stereo Audio Recorder:
I bought this device for my wife who is a piano teacher. She has been using it for a couple of weeks now, recording her students lessons and plans to use it to record a recital coming up.
It is very easy to setup and use and the quality is very impressive for the price paid.
I like that:
Plugging it into USB you can drag and drop files to Mac or Windows
Can carry spare SD cards for additional storage if needed
Re-chargeable battery which charges from USB
Also can use a AA battery
Uses standard mini-USB cable not a propriety one
PCM or MP3 formats native
Only negative point so far is the playback volume, pretty much useless on the device itself and very low when transferred to a Mac. Working on different settings now to see if we can improve that area.
Also it feels very flimsy as it is so light. This is not proven to be an issue, just my impression!

Comments about Yamaha Pocketrak CX Digital Stereo Audio Recorder:
I purchased this unit for simple home music recordings. (guitar/vocal) And for the amount I paid, I am very pleased with it's capabilities.
I also have used it in some "investigations" where I need an extreamly sensative mike. The end results were sounds recorded the human ear could not pick up. The adjustments allowed me to "sense" sounds I never dreamed was possible! VERY PLEASED!!
Comments about Yamaha Pocketrak CX Digital Stereo Audio Recorder:
I'm far from an audio engineer but I was pretty impressed with the quality I've obtained with zero work. So far I've used it to record three kid's concerts (middle and high school bands). Quality was "great" for a non-audio geek. I recorded these in default 48khz PCM format with slightly adjusted mic sensitivity. Edited final audio using Adobe Southbooth CS4 and mixed down to mp3.

Comments about Yamaha Pocketrak CX Digital Stereo Audio Recorder:
Reminds me of a certain $3,000+ pocket recorder, but at a tiny fraction of the price. It's perfect for effortlessly recording anything on location, especially music. Imagine recording more than three hours of 44.1 PCM audio without stopping -- it can do it! The included audio editing software is powerful, but its learning curve is steep.

This is a great complement to my Yamaha stage piano.
The built in mics perform very well at capturing acoustic sound. A USB connection is available for direct connection to a piano keyboard, workstation or computer. It is easy to set up and collect CD quality recordings. The instruction manual is very good. Many recording formats are available based on need. From interview to concert hall this unit has it all. I am very pleased. Thank you B&H.

Comments about Yamaha Pocketrak CX Digital Stereo Audio Recorder:
I use it to record vocals for several music tracks I produce. I love the choice of output (mp3, wav) in a variety of bit rates. The controls are easy to understand and use.
Minor cons are I would like to see slightly more headphone output level and a suitable adapter for conventional mike stands.
Overall pluses: Excellent quality. Battery life is excellent.

Comments about Yamaha Pocketrak CX Digital Stereo Audio Recorder:
Purchased this for two very opposite reasons: recording meetings for a non-profit with which I work and serve as secretary; recording sounds to be collected and used in a film I am currently preparing. In both cases I could not be happier.
The clarity of the sound in both applications produces a record of what is needed and, with ease in downloading, makes my indexing very efficient.
