The Lumiquest ProMax SoftBox III enlarges and diffuses the light from your flash in the direct flash position. SoftBox III has roughly twice the diffusion surface as the original SoftBox.
Its 8 x 9" surface is over 25 times the size of today's most popular flash heads, producing much softer shadows.
No exposure compensation is required when shooting with TTL exposure control, but SoftBox III will interfere with the on flash auto exposure sensor and autofocus assist. Approximate light loss is 1.25 stops.

I use a SB600 hand-held up and to one side for people-pictures and this softbox really does a nice job. I hope to use it soon on a stand, but for the time being, it's spur of the moment pictures (people at a reception or party and children) and I like the quality of the light I'm getting. It's not for the group shot. Best used for individual shots.

One of the best "tiny softbox" accessories currently available as far as convenience and light quality...but they need to improve the build quality. After a short period of only light use, one of the velcro tabs tore loose on mine, and the inner white vinyl layer is separated from the outer black layer due to weak welds along the sides. So now I can only secure it on 3 sides of the flash. If I add a rubber band, it's fine - just a nuisance. They need to re-engineer the velcro attachment points because they are not durable enough to stand up to much pulling - and they are the main stress points. And no, I was not rough with it, if anything I babied the thing because I was worried about the durability. Turns out I was right. Hopefully they'll get it ironed out with the Promax IV.

Very portable solution to getting softer light from off camera flash in the field. Best when used with the ultra strap to attach to flash head quickly.

Comments about LumiQuest Promax Softbox III:
I'm using the Promax on a Canon 580EX II flash and so far I really like the effect I can get when using it. It was easy to setup and put on my flash but...one thing I didn't like right out of the box is that unless you buy a wrap-around Velcro strap, you would need to use the Velcro stick-ons that come with the Promax. Personally I didn't like the idea of permantly sticking these things on my flash. Fortunately I had an elastic strap I use backpacking that worked just fine in securely wrapping around the Promax and the flash thus attaching the Promax to the flash. Overall the construction of the item seems to be good and I thought the price was fair for what I received.

I'm a New York Photographer who recently had a shoot in Los Angeles with a Hollywood actress and I had to ensure that every frame was picture perfect. The Promax Softbox III softened the flash from my speedlight beautifully. Use this product to get the best lighting from your speedlight.

I use it with a flash bracket and cable. It is fabulous for very difficult lighting conditions outdoors with people, indoors and at night. It stays put so far. I have 2 and use them on cables hands held and on light stands. Top product for get good skin stones and not burning your subject out.

I used this for the first time at a fall festival photo booth in a gym. It worked like a CHARM! I was worried about the high ceilings and bad lighting. What a LIFE SAVER! Last thing I needed was more stuff to haul out of town. This little baby folds flat and fits right down into my camera bag. Beautiful.

Comments about LumiQuest Promax Softbox III:
I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of light this little softbox produced. It is a real lifesaver when you are by yourself and want to get an off-camera flash on a stand, especially outdoors where even a slight breeze can knock over a shoot-through umbrella. It's small enough to fit into my camera bag, so now I leave my house with a stand, a speedlight w/ radio trigger, and the Softbox 3. The light is soft and even.

Best softbox of this size I've used. Will fit in every camera bag I own. Only takes a few seconds to set up (be sure to get the accessory velcro strap so you won't need to put the sticky stuff on your speedlight). Quality of light is excellent for its size.

I am relatively new to off camera lighting. I bought this to soften close up shots with off-camera flash. It does that well. I am a little concerned about the plastic "hinges" but haven't seen any reviews saying they have cracked or worn out.

Comments about LumiQuest Promax Softbox III:
With anything, expectations are key. As we all know, the closer you get your subject to the SBIII, the softer the light; but, even if you aren't within arm's length it's a much improved over a light w/out a modifier (or using the modifier that probably came with your flash). And adjusting your distance and/or intensity allows the SBIII to give you more versatility with regard to light texture. I really like using the SBIII outdoors: I was able to get a wonderful exposure of my subject's face (on a very bright/sunny day) as well as capture the background. If you've ever used an umbrella on a head shot where the subject is in bright sunlight and you want to capture the background then you know what I'm talking about (none of this is to say that this won't work very well indoors). It's very light and folds up easily; thus, it won't take up much room in any bag in which it fits. Also: make sure to get the Lumiquest velcro strap. Regarding build quality, it seems to be made well enough. I guess what I like most is that it's going to allow me to point my flash directly at a subject and get a softer look (short of using an umbrella).

Excellent product, durable, packs flat, folds out to a nice size softbox perfect for head shots and fill light. As with any light modifier, expect to loose some light output intensity.

Comments about LumiQuest Promax Softbox III:
This is an interesting modifier for speedlights - it'll give you a relatively soft light source when places very close to a smaller subject, and a harder light source when moved back. It's also super easy to transport and set up, and seems pretty durable, so far.

I use several lumiquest produsts, and like the ability for all of them to fold up and store in my camera bags. Easy to attach (i don't mind the velcro that stays on my flashes). I did buy the flexible cinch strap but haven't used it yet.

Used at a wedding and the light is very concentrated. Not good for a real diffused light. I will continue to use it in different situations. Very easy to use.

Comments about LumiQuest Promax Softbox III:
This is a "home made" product. It will soften the light but to a very small degree. A much better product is the Lastolite hotshoe speed-lite. Of course, it's twice as expensive, but remember you get what.....
