I've recieved and have been testing this lens for over a week now and eventhough these are my first impressions I'm pretty sure it will help anyone make a decision whether or not to buy it.
I own a Canon7D and even having a 17mm-55mm lens (which is pretty wide already), the 10mm just pushes the possibilities even further. I know that the main doubt on this lens is choosing among brands and I made up my mind because of the overall specs and the price! Over the Sigma, which I had a better brand impressions, main issue was the extra f-stop on the aperture. When comparing to Canon's 10-22, the much higher price didn't seem to make a difference in practice (same aperture limitations, no lens hood and 2mm less on the long end). But if money wasn't an issue I'd definately go for the Canon because I own another 3 different canon lenses and am very pleased with them all, so if it wasn't for price I wouldn't change brands.
Well, that everyone knows cause it's written on the lenses descriptions. Now let's talk about what really matters, the lens itself!
Construction
It's well built and feels very solid. It's lighter than I thought. Focus is precise, reasonably fast and silent. Only downside is that focus ring rotates while focusing (but not front elements so you won't have problems when using a circular polarizing filter). After practicing a little and getting the right grip, the rotating ring won't bother as much, still a small issue though...
Picture quality
It's excellent! I really hate some reviews that are done by scientists/optics engineers and show CA and distortion graphs that make this lens look "bad". Everything on this lens is very well controlled and is as much as you may expect on a mid range price lens, it will never be a L series (which aren't perfect neither).
All the issues regarding quality (distortion, CA, vigneting, etc...) is well controlled and acceptable. With the correct settings on camera and sometimes a little post editing you will never have any problems in getting outstanding results and professional looking pictures, afterall photography has never been about perfection, it's about language and expression and with this lens you can sure achieve that!
Hope to have helped anyone in trouble deciding.
best wishes and good clicks to you all!

I am a real estate photographer, so I need to have the ultra wide range. About a month after getting this lens, my Canon Rebel XSi started to display an error 001 message saying that the lens and camera were not communicating and suggested I clean the lens contacts. I used this as a dedicated lens on my camera body and I do not shoot in extreme conditions, so I knew they were clean. However, I cleaned them anyway, with the same result. I contacted Tamron and they seemed to almost finish my sentences when describing the issue. They said it was something simple and I could send it to them to be repaired.
The lens itself is of decent quality. The glass in mine was fairly sharp, even out to the edges. I found the auto focus motor sounded very whiney and the Af/MF switch a bit cheap feeling.
I had jobs to fulfill however, and so I ordered the Canon 10-22 as I would not have my Tamron back for a few weeks. Let me say WOW! If I thought the Tamron was good, this Canon lens has me speechless. The build quality of the lens is excellent. The auto focus speed is great. Even in auto focus mode, you can manually make fine adjustments just by turning the focus ring. Nice. And the glass...WOW! This is tack sharp...right out to the edges! As in all ultra-wides there is some pincushion distortion and vignetting at the extreme corners, which is easily corrected in Photoshop. That is not a flaw as ALL ultra wides have these characteristics.
I know it is hard to choke down the additional $ for the Canon lens, but you get a much better lens for the extra $. That being said, the Tamron is still a very good lens, but I will be using it as a backup in case something happens to my Canon.
I took off 2 stars because of the problem I had with my lens failing so soon, and I took an additional star off when I got my Canon 10-22 and relized that the Tamron was not in the same class.

I went out with just this one lens to see what I could capture. The photos were sharp and clear.
The lens was easy to use but a little heavy. However, I have not used other 10-20 mm lenses so could not judge whether or not it was heavy compared tp other ones.

Great for landscape pictures. Great depth of field.
Built in camera flash produces a shadow at the bottom of the photo so not useful for flash photos. Now I need to buy a seperate flash.

Plain and simple, if you are an amature photographer who just does this for fun, this lens will work great for you. If you are semi-serious about photography, do not waste your time. Images come out very soft around the edges even with higher apertures. A lot of amatures will not even notice this problem but if you are are enlarging prints you will definitely notice. If you have any light coming in at this lens whatsoever, you will get flares everywhere. In the first 24 hours with this lens, I had several pictures that I just flat out couldn't take because I was getting huge flares across the image. This includes day and night photography. I do a lot of shooting in downtown Chicago and I have used dozens of lens. This was the first lens that I have ever encountered such a flare problem at night like this. If there was a street light anywhere near me, it was a problem. This is a shame because the color saturation and the contract on the images are actually pretty good. I could look past the softness of the images but the flares just kill me and ruin the lens for me. I can absolutely never trust that you will get a consistent quality image.

Fast focus and sharp images, are the signature of this lens. On a recent trip to Pismo Beach, California, I was able to capture some great Sunset images with the pier sillouetted in the image. If you're on a budget, like I am, this lens is a excellent choice for a wide angle, to add to your kit!

I love this lens! It gives a very clean image, no vignetting, and sharp on my 60d. It is perfect for shooting panoramas/landscapes and building interiors. It would be great if it were a constant f-stop throughout, but for the price I can't complain. I am very happy with the lens' performance thus far.

Comments about Tamron SP AF 10-24mm f / 3.5-4.5 DI II Zoom Lens For Canon DSLR Cameras:
I initially thought this would be a "specialty shot" lens...only for architecture, large groups, and real estate. I WAS WRONG! This lens is awesome for just about everything i was doing from weekend club photography to comic convention groups. On the video side of things, it was great for interviews in crowded environments because you can get a good frame without being too far from the subject...good clarity and crispness...a little colour fringing and distortion at its widest but for that price...c'mon...
The problem I eventually and now continually have is that the lens will stop communicating with the camera after a photo is taken, giving you an ERROR 01 message...frustrating as all get out but managable...shouldn't have to deal with it but for the relative low price i reckon it is a quirk with which to deal...
This problem has never manifested in video mode so if you use a video enabled DSLR, your video will not suffer. PHOTOS WILL...I have not lost an image after the error msg but you must power down, remove the battery and restart...

I am an intermediate amateur that shoots for pleasure. I am building my lens library and needed a good all purpose landscape lens. The Tamron 10-24mm came highly recommended by at least two professional photog friends and I haven't been disappointed. The lens is light, sharp and easy to use. I highly recommend this piece of glass!

I am a real estate agent and have been using an 18mm lens to photograph inside homes. This lens allows much more of the room into the photo with the 10mm lens. I am pleased with the overall quality of the photos and the operation of this lens. For the price it does a good job.

This is my first ultra wide. This lens combined with a bit of creativity will allow me to produce some very interesting finished work. I really like this lens because it has much less distortion than I would have expected. And it is pretty fast as well. Not my first Tamron and I'm still a fan.

Comments about Tamron SP AF 10-24mm f / 3.5-4.5 DI II Zoom Lens For Canon DSLR Cameras:
I had this lens for about a week and used it both indoors and outdoors. I found the image quality of this lens just okay, not great. The corners are very soft, even when you close down to f8. The left side on my copy was noticeably softer than the right side. Adobe Lightroom 3.6 has a profile for this lens, and corrects distortion and vignetting nicely. I noticed some CA, but not much. The lens is constructed well and is relatively light weight. I used it with Canon Digital Rebel XSi and 60D and it felt comfortable on both bodies. I generally did not notice any issues with AF, however I had couple shots that were out of focus. It's a lot of fun to shoot with super wide angle, but I would recommend this lens only if you cannot afford Tokina or Sigma.
