The Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs is part of the 055CX series, which was designed to meet the needs of demanding professionals and photography enthusiasts who want the best in terms of performance and quality. It has been improved with the use of carbon fiber tubing for its legs. Thanks to innovative production techniques - which allow for high quality 100% carbon tube structures - the 055CX series guarantees a higher load capacity and an increased height with a lighter overall weight (-20%) thanks to a completely new design, which allowed to lighten the components.
The 055CXPRO4 is a 4-leg section tripod, with a center column design that allows it to be used in either vertical or horizontal position. By extending the column to its highest vertical position, the column can be swung over to horizontal without removing the head or disassembling the column itself.
The 055CXPRO4 also features several other improvements, such as an improved leg locking system, redesigned angle adjustment levers, and a leveling bubble that is incorporated into the head plate.

I do lots of hiking and I needed a reliable, lightweight, affordable, easy to use, tripod. I was looking at the Gitzo Basalt and CF but was unsure how well the twist locks would hold up to the dirt, snow, and ice we have here in Wisconsin. I also didn't like that if something hit the basalt then it would make a loud clang. I don't want the wildlife to know I'm there.
I wanted light weight design so carbon fiber was my only option. I couldn't afford the Gitzo models that compared to the 055cxpro 4. It is loaded with features that are practical and work. Manfrotto did an incredible job at making this tripod easy to use. The leg angles adjust easier that my previous model by leaps and bounds. I really like the quick horizontal feature, I have a similar feature on my 3001BPro but I never used it because it just took to long to do.
The only complaint I have is that it is a little jerky when adjusting the length of the legs. Not so much that I get irritated but I notice it once in a while. I would guess it comes from the carbon fiber friction. Really a small observation than a deciding factor.
For those who are unsure about the leg lock design. I had them covered in snow and ice and with gloves on, I could easily unlock it, break the ice and adjust it.
I get obsessive when researching something and I'm glad I did because this is one of the best purchases I've made. Together with the Acratech GV2 ballhead this is the perfect tripod for me. I asked a pro photographer what he uses and said I wouldn't be unhappy with the Manfrotto 055cxpro 4, he's used Manfrotto for years.

This tripod is definitely light weight, but some features could be improved. The leg release buttons are hard to press, and once pressed, the legs are not very easy to adjust. This should be a more fluid process, in my humble opinion. Also, the ability to make the center column swing out horizontally seems pointless. This is not proper substitution to ground level shots. [...] I returned this tripod for a better model.

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
I would buy it again. I did a long research before buying this item and I did not regret at all. It holds my Nikon D7k with a 28-300 lens very firm and steady. The height it gets is impressive. It seems the tripod will have a long life due its material quality and finishing, let's see... I bought together a 054 magnesium ball head which fits perfectly, better then 055 which is larger then the tripod.

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
This Carbon Fiber Tripod is so much lighter and more practical than the old metal frame one I have been using. Plenty of support capacity to hold those long Tele-Photo lenses which always had me afraid of taking a spill on my old Tri-pod, and the lightweight Carbon Construction makes it ideal to transport long distances. Definitely the way to go !

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
I may be new to Photography but I am not new to the concept that when travelling lighter is better. I purchased the 055PROB aluminum tripod two weeks prior to a trip that I had coming up. I figured it was only 2-3 lbs difference in weight and about 6 inches in fully closed height. While the 055Prob was great, my wife said something to me that made a lot of sense. Since I just spent a ton of money on an expensive camera (7D) and lens, why not spend the extra $200 and get the lighter and shorter tripod. I'm going to have these for a long time so why not get what the best. So I bought the 055CXPro4 and am soooo glad I did. The 2-3 lbs really makes a difference and the 6 inches makes all kinds of travelling way more convenient (luggage and walking around). Not to mention B&H shipped it ridiculously fast (Fast shipping is what stands out when competitors are similar priced).

This tripod replaces a Slik Tripod I had purchased several years ago. I returned to B& H another tripod that would not meet my needs. This tripod gets very low to the ground and is light enough for me to use with my hiking. The carbon fiber legs does make it a bit lighter but wish it could be even lighter. This is not a problem just a comment. The center extension move up and down very easily and the fact that it moves horizontally make it so nice for low to the ground macro shooting.

My first real tripod. Decided to go carbon fiber. This is a really well constructed unit for the price. It is light and easy to set up. I live in the North East and I am glad I got carbon rather than aluminum since it does not conduct the cold. Solid unit.

Of all the tripods I've used this has the best balance of lightweight and sturdy. I use this with the 501HD head for a Canon 7D setup and could not be more pleased with it.

Plain and simply this is a awesome tripod. Been using an inferior tripod for my spotting scope for months and ever time I used I cussed up a storm. This tripod is everthing I have been looking for in a spotting scope tripod for long range shooting. I don't have any negative things to say about, but I do wish that it was a little shorter when folded, other wise there is nothing that I find wrong with this tripod.

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
After careful research and comparison of features, quality and reliability with other brands I've decided to buy the 055CXPRO4 4-section CF. I bought it almost a month ago and use it a lot for portraits. I'm not worried about tipping over and distroying my equipment as it is stable and it can hold a maximum weight of 17.6 lbs (8kg)- this is a lot of weight. I will soon be using it outdoors and I am confident it will give me satisfaction because it is compact (4-section), light weight and short when folded yet sturdy. It is expensive but definitely worth the money. I've purchase this tripod along with 054 Magnesium Ball Head with Q2 Quick Release, another excellent choice to replace my low-grade aluminum tripod. I wish there was a carry bag that comes with it. Other than that I'm very happy overall.

Lightweight, 4 sections fold down shorter than 3 leg section tripod. I hike with this tripod, use it in he studio, I also work a lot out of the car trunk. Combined with my Gitzo Ball Head, this solid tripod opens quickly, adjusts easily, helps me get the shot, and closes down quickly to help me move on to the next shot quickly.
I use a Canon 5D2 w/battery grip, 70-200 2.8 lens, sometimes w/flash. It's rock solid.
I especially like the flip-lever locks, and prefer them over twist-locks that I used for many years previous.

I bought this tripod to replace an inferior aluminum tripod. Wish I had done that two years ago. This tripod is very well constructed and lightweight. I bought a joystick head to use with it, another excellent choice. Manfrotto makes very high quality gear.

This is not heavy, but good stability.
For nikon D7000 with 16-85mm lenses, 055cxpro4 may be too tough.
But I can take a photo without worry.
And I like the design too.
I think the cost effective is very high.
