The SP-590UZ digital camera from Olympus merges simplicity and convenience with a high-performance optic, and they wrapped it all up in a manageable form-factor. This amazing camera almost disappears in your backpack and weighs less than a pound; you can carry it all day long and you'll still want to take it with you tomorrow.
Telephoto and wide-angle shooters will find that the SP-590UZ's lens delivers above and beyond the call of duty. Zooming from true wide-angle all the way out to super-telephoto, the focal length of this fine optic spans what would be 26-676mm in a standard 35mm camera system. Photographic scenarios there were previously thought to be impossible become a tangible reality; eagles roosting on a ledge in the distance, or shooting a team photo in a less-than-ideal corner of the gym - the SP-590 handles both with aplomb, and its 12MP capture ensures a quality enlargement for everyone!

This camera was purchased to be an intermediate between a very high end DSLR camera and an 8 mp point and shoot. Obviously the point and shoot is very elementary and the DSLR is for when professional results count. I needed something for everyday that is in-between the two. Thus the purchase of this camera.
It has some great functions to it including a super cool 26X zoom! It also has some very cool scene settings that are rather detailed. The smile shot is great for capturing the smiles when they are natural not held! One setting allows you to blur the background and creates great images, but can be somewhat cumbersome to use at first.
There is a beauty setting that is intended to help smooth lines and wrinkles that I am eager to try out soon. If it works as hoped and expected, it will be an awesome function to have.
I have noticed that at max zoom, the images can (not always, but they can) tend to be less crisp than I want. It helps to be able to use a tripod with this zoom to steady the camera.
My one big gripe about this is not a function of the camera, but rather the lens cap! Why it is so flimsy I will never know considering it protects the most important part of the camera! I hate this lens cap, but it is better than not having one at all. It pops off so easily that I am not sure what it will actually protect.
This camera is definitely NOT for the general amateur novice user. It is easy enough to learn, but a true amateur will find it cumbersome and awkward to use effectively.
I would say that for the price it is definitely worth the money. Overall I am pleased with this camera.

I am not a proffesional photographer, but even though this camera is easy to use it is horribly slow to focus. Sometimes having to try 2-3 times for it to focus on its subject. If you click before its completly focused the image will be blurry. It has a very fast shutter, but it takes awhile between pictures. I like the beauty feature, where you can clear skin, and all of the edit functions. The camera size of it is just too large for your everyday pictures.

This is an excellent Olympus Camera. The SP-59OUZ Olympus Digital Camera is a versatile camera that takes excellent close-up photos. The image quality is wonderful! I use the camera primarily to take photos for on-line sales and it works really well for that purpose. However, it also takes great shots at kids' ball games. I am very pleased!

I bought this as an upgrade to my mom's kodak point and shoot camera. She wanted a camera that gave her more features and zoom. This has all of the above. It is simple to use. The "smile" feature is really neat. She's been using it for about two weeks and can't put the camera down. I have an earlier version of this same camera and I highly recommend it to someone that is looking for a camera upgrade or a compact camera when traveling. I have digital SLRs and I use my olympus when I travel. GREAT product!

I got this camera for my wife and she is loving it. Its a very easy to use camera, VERY easy to use, takes great pictures and is light weight. The price tag along with all the other items I got still leaves money in my pocket. I would recommend this poduct to anyone looking for a quility camera at a great price. Look and B&H Video for a even better deal.

I'm not one to use new products - I learn slow but on this little darling, my son had no problems
showing me about the camera. It has been super for me at a family reunion and at Thanksgiving. Also, I have taken it deer hunting and have taken some great shots. Even the video works great. I am so satisfied with the camers. Thanks to Olympus and B&H Products. Its greatl

I'd rate myself as a "skilled amateur," eager get a clear, sharp, color-correct without the hassle of lugging around additional lenses. I've been very pleased with the results obtained from my new SP-590 Olympus camera. I like the definition, even in super macro, coupled with the advantage of incredible zoom.

Comments about Olympus SP-590UZ Digital Camera (Black):
Purchased this camera before going on vacation. Took approximately 2,000 pictures. Was pleased with ability to get long range photos. At maximum zoom, had to use tripod or steady camera on a table. I expected this from previous reviews. Really like the flip flash and the ablitiy to vasilate between the screen view and the eye piece. So far so good... yes I would recommend this camera. Will know more when I start developing the photos. Not real happy with the OLYMPUS MAster program. But could be it is just different from Camedia Master. Edited photos are not saved in the Oly Master, they are saved in the Windows program, which is a bit confusing and frusterating. Looks like I am using a lot of memory double storing photos in both programs, but I'll have to get with Olympus and figure it out. Really like Camera size, fits in hand great. Goes to sleep or shuts off after so many minutes of use. Have not figured how to save the setting. Have to keep resetting camera menu to digital zoom. All this said I like the camera overall.

I do house remodeling. so I need wide angle camera to take room pictures. I had a few point-to-shoot cameras before, which did not work for me. But this one not just shooting 16:9 format pictures, it has feature (with 3 options) to automatically combine 3 pictures in one panoramic view, horizontal or vertical, left or right direction of shooting. So now I can make photo of the bathroom in about 270 degree angle. Plus with build-in editing capabilities and HDMI 720p TV output IT IS VERY GOOD BUY!

There´s a lot of stuff I like in this camera:
a. focusing is really quick
b. zoom is great, so is the macro mode
c. powerful flash
d. great pictures in ISO 400 (ISO 800 is not too bad... I´ll use it in some ocasions)
e. intuitive and well-featured menu
My only cons is the video mode: there´s no auto focus when I start record the movie, it means that I can´t make zoom in or zoom out without losing focus (and the audio quality is not good).

Comments about Olympus SP-590UZ Digital Camera (Black):
I purchased the SP-590UZ as an upgrade to my previous Olympic ultra zoom. I was looking for more zoom power and the image stabilization. I used it at a lake where I zoomed to 26X to a beach at the other end, about 200 yards, and was quite pleased with the color and clarity. The battery power seems to last quite a while as I have not changed the batteries as of yet and have taken probably 150 shots and a couple of short videos. One thing I don't like is Olympus doesn't suggest you try to use filters because it will cause distortion.

I use the Olympus SP-590uz mainly for nature shots. I have not been disappointed. The image quality is superb. The image stabilization works beautifully even with the optional Olympus T-Con 1.7X telephoto lens.
With the addition of the T-Con lens you will get a true 44X optical range.
The only gripe I have are the recessed function buttons on the back of the camera. It takes a bit getting used to.
Overall, a great camera reminiscent of my old Olympus C-2100uz from the year 2000 which was also a superb piece of equipment.

Comments about Olympus SP-590UZ Digital Camera (Black):
I've had my 590 several months now, and I like it a lot.
I just want to address a comment I've seen on several forums, that the extreme zoom suffers from barrel and pincushion distortion. It's true, but not, repeat *not* a problem - the Olympus Master application corrects any distortion according to the lens parameters used when the photo was shot. This correction works well and should be used for most photos.
I am a serious amateur photographer and have previously used a system camera with several lenses; the 590 is now the only camera I use, because of it's high picture quality, ease of use, ultra zoom, and compact size.
