The Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens utilizes an anti-shake compensation function, with a 13.8 times zoom ratio. This lens's Hybrid Optical Stabilizer provides not only an anti-shake function for the camera body, but also compensates for image shaking in the view finder as the Optical Stabilizer is built in to the lens.
Four special low dispersion glass elements and three aspherical lens elements, results in excellent image quality throughout the entire zoom range. With a minimum focusing distance of 17.7" at all focal lengths and a maximum magnification of 1:3.4 reproduction ratio, this wide-range zoom is great for close-up photography as well as for telephoto shooting.
Note! This lens is only for APS-C / DX sensors (not full frame).

I recently bought it to replace my Sigma 17-70mm and Canon 55-250mm IS lenses. This 18-250mm is very much like the 17-70mm in overall quality. It is of high quality! I've used it mostly so far for night photography and also for fast action, and wildlife (crocodiles in Jamaica; can't trust that ear to ear smile of theirs). All the pictures I shot with it were hand held and the OS system performed flawlessly. I DID brace myself against columns, trees, etc... when necessary for some night shots. So I was relatively stable, though not 100%. The OS took care of the rest and my exposures were blurr-free. I use it on my EOS 40D and it complements very well the speed and low light capabilities of the camera. It is fast and quiet. The zoom action is quite precise though smoothness varies over the range... understandable for a 13.9:1 zoom range! It shows virtually no play when fully extended. Also, I've checked its macro ability, and found it to be approx. 1:2.5, far better than Sigma's very conservative spec. Very highly recommended!!!!

I wanted a "walk around" lens for when I'm just out doing some shooting of whatever. I have a few L series lenses, but they are heavy and big. This lens does not have lens creep, which is one of my biggest issues. It is heavy too, and in low light it does not do well at all. But overall for the price, its a good deal and you don't have to change lenses all the time. The focal range is right on. Wish it were a little lighter, and a little better with low light, even if it were a little more cost wise. It would be worth it.
But as for an every day lens, it does the job.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Canon Cameras:
I purchased this for an upcoming backpacking/hiking trip. I appreciated the "all in one lense" with the varied zoom. While I did get some good images the autofocus was slow when following movement. And the sharpness was not up to my standards. That being said, I got some really good pictures of still objects and some nature photos. For a general lens for travel and if you aren't completely worried about sharpness of image especially in low light or action, then maybe this lense will work great for you. I personally wasn't completely satisfied with the image quality so I returned it. Instead I have the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 wide angle lens and Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS.

Great lens for the price. I love being able to just take one lens and not my whole pack, especially while hiking. It has an 18mm for wide angle and goes all the way to 250mm for telephoto. Looking to purchase another for my daughter.

My family likes skiing. The lens are great in a sunny day. It works great for steady targets. However, aiming a moving skier without sun light, the photos are very dark.I am not an expert, but I read all the comments before spending so much money. The comments are made under different points of view and different interest.
I had another lens Sigma 50-200 that cost about $150 they take similar pictures for one third of the cost.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Canon Cameras:
Perfect 'travel' lens. Small & compact with a decent zoom. Gives good quality pics and I used it in a rain forest on a tripod, and got very acceptable results both close up and zoomed out, when it's stopped down to about f8. It has a robust build and a very nice 'feel'.
Cons.....it's a slow lens, don't expect the same as the 100-400 L series Canon. the zoom ring is a bit rough but I expect will loosen with time. All in all I'm extremely happy with it, it will serve my purpose well.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Canon Cameras:
I shoot with a Canon 50d and primarily shoot nature and architecture. Have used this lens almost exclusively (other than switching to my Sigma macro) since I received it. Prior to this purchase I was shooting with a Sigma 17-70mm which produced great images. I also carried a 55-250mm canon. Seemed like when I had the 17-70 mounted, I need the reach of the 250mm. By the same token when the 55-250 was mounted I needed the wide end of the 17-70mm. Problem solved! Sigma's 18-250 allows me to use one lens for my needs. Yes, I realize that all zooms are a compromise. Not having the needed lens mounted can cause compromise also. Once dialed in on the 50d body, the lens produces extremely sharp photos. As can be expected,, a bit soft at the 250mm range. I use some post processing plug-ins to sharpen images. All in all, this is a great lens for the money. Some would say it is a bit heavy, but DSLRs are not meant to be pocket cameras. If you are looking for a good walk-around lens that can handle most situations, this is a great choice. Keep in mind that 250mm is really not sufficient for most birding. When funds allow, I will also consider the Sigma 50-500mm zoom.

I love it.
I use it to replace my 18-55 and 55-250mm.
Now no need to change lenses too often.
I also like the wide angle for landscape pictures.
In summary, I am very pleased with the quality and price.

Images are sharp. The OM (Image Stabilization) is a wonderful feature especially for lower light situations. It's a bit heavier than the similar Tamron I have w/o the OM, but it's worth it.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Canon Cameras:
I use this lens for almost everything except portraits. I keep it on my trusty Canon 20-D and it can come up with some awesome shots...especially at top and fully extended. The Image Stabilizer is very effective.
With a Canon flash on, I shot some great photos indoors at a bluegrass concert. It does perform better in natural light but I'm shooting news stories and not posed studio shots. When you think I'm capable of 28-375, just walking or driving around, that's pretty awesome.

Sometimes gives amazing shots ,but it is very unpredictable. prefer to go back to having two L lenses for my Canon 7D.
For video does a descent job,but don't depend on it for good photographs.

Good all round lens, love it. I have used my lens indoor and outdoors as well and have found it great. It`s no f2.8 but still a very good lens! A little on the heavy side if you compare to stock CANON EF-S 55-250 f4-5.6 IS.

I'm new in photography and wanted an all around lens for travel. Couldn't be happier. Takes great pics, the OS works fine, fast auto focus, good even in low light. For an entusiast like me, it's better than carriyng many lenses to change when you're a tourist and don't wanna miss a single shoot!

This is a must have lens. I do a lot of dirving, walking, and pretty much anything outdoors. I have been changing lenses back and forth for years because I didn't want to loose quality by having a lens with this kind of range. Since having this lens I have saved my self all sorts of frustration because I can get the shot I want with out packing around a bag with two other lenses in it. The quality looks just as good. Very pleased with this lenes.
