I recently bought it to replace my Sigma 17-70mm and Canon 55-250mm IS lenses. This 18-250mm is very much like the 17-70mm in overall quality. It is of high quality! I've used it mostly so far for night photography and also for fast action, and wildlife (crocodiles in Jamaica; can't trust that ear to ear smile of theirs). All the pictures I shot with it were hand held and the OS system performed flawlessly. I DID brace myself against columns, trees, etc... when necessary for some night shots. So I was relatively stable, though not 100%. The OS took care of the rest and my exposures were blurr-free. I use it on my EOS 40D and it complements very well the speed and low light capabilities of the camera. It is fast and quiet. The zoom action is quite precise though smoothness varies over the range... understandable for a 13.9:1 zoom range! It shows virtually no play when fully extended. Also, I've checked its macro ability, and found it to be approx. 1:2.5, far better than Sigma's very conservative spec. Very highly recommended!!!!

I bought this lens after a fair amount of research. I was expecting to buy a dependable, flexible, and reasonably sharp general purpose walk-around lens for my Canon 50D. After reading most of the reviews posted here, I concluded this lens would most likely fit the bill since
-a) all reviews are subjective and reviewers are not using the same criteria,
-b) it would be unrealistic to expect 100% positive reviews, there are always going to be a few malcontents in any group of reviewers, and
-c) for every negative point in the reviews I read, there were several other positive reviews pertaining to the very same traits.
I have to say I was excited about receiving a new lens, and tended to look at the first few images as a pragmatic optimist- overlooking the negatives and rationalizing the less attractive traits such as soft edges, unremarkable focusing, apparent inconsistence in the image stabilization, and occasional vignetting as the price you pay for an all in one lens. But then I found myself struggling to find truly good sharp images as well as positive attributes to this lens other than the price and the focal range. If those 2 attributes are your main criteria, and you can live with the less positive traits I mentioned , then this is the lens for you. Don't get me wrong, it was not a bad lens, just not as good as I had hoped for. I ended up returning it and have since decided to go with a fixed 100mm macro lens.

Sometimes gives amazing shots ,but it is very unpredictable. prefer to go back to having two L lenses for my Canon 7D.
For video does a descent job,but don't depend on it for good photographs.

Good all round lens, love it. I have used my lens indoor and outdoors as well and have found it great. It`s no f2.8 but still a very good lens! A little on the heavy side if you compare to stock CANON EF-S 55-250 f4-5.6 IS.

I'm new in photography and wanted an all around lens for travel. Couldn't be happier. Takes great pics, the OS works fine, fast auto focus, good even in low light. For an entusiast like me, it's better than carriyng many lenses to change when you're a tourist and don't wanna miss a single shoot!

This is a must have lens. I do a lot of dirving, walking, and pretty much anything outdoors. I have been changing lenses back and forth for years because I didn't want to loose quality by having a lens with this kind of range. Since having this lens I have saved my self all sorts of frustration because I can get the shot I want with out packing around a bag with two other lenses in it. The quality looks just as good. Very pleased with this lenes.

I really like the fact that when I am traveling and
in a busy downtown area for example I can shoot a fairly wide angle scene, then immediately zoom in to shoot a detail shot quickly without having to stop and change lenses. It also works well at the
longer end of the zoom range with the Kenko extension tubes for doing macro photos.

As a casual hobbyist photog my interest is a decent photo lens for a reasonable price. I travel internationally and found it difficult to transport mutiple lenses so I decided to try this lens because of the focal length.
My first use was in Egypt while on camel back. I was quite pleased with the OS which properly compensated for the camels gait and allowed for very good photo results. Pictures were not L series quality but for the price paid I did not have those expectations.
This is my third Sigma lens (85mm & 150-500mm) and I use them on my 40d and 7d with very good results.

I needed to buy a new lens so was debating what to get. I have young children so was looking for one lens that would do it all as I didn't want to be changing lenses all the time.
This lens has fitted all my needs perfectly. It is slightly heavier than I expected, but then I am now not carrying two lenses. I have gained so much more versatility that I use my camera more often.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Canon Cameras:
Using it with a Canon 60D. I thought about which long zoom lense to get for a long time. I do a lot of night shooting, wanted a fast lense and was afraid of the high f stops. Also price was a factor. This lense performs great especially in daylight. The zoom range is amazing. Zoomed all the way out, you can focus within 3 inches of an object and get very tight. It's my primary lense now. Good for video also.
My other lenses are a Sigma 17-50 and a Tokina 11-16, both 2.8. I use those mostly when I'm location scouting for movies and commercials.*

I am currently a media photographer, supplying images for local newspapers, websites and government departments. This lens was wonderful when i got it, as I originally had the 18-200 sigma. It was sharp, versatile and traveled like a dream. However, I started getting ERROR 99 messages and bad TTL readings until it just died on an important assignment !!! Then the 18-200 died the very next day :(
I gave two stars for what it was before it died; but now I am without two telephoto zooms that I have to buy again :(
Ah well :)
