Onkyo's A-5VL Integrated Amplifier is a digital amplifier, which offers significant power efficiency savings and sports a slim and elegant design. With such a slender design, one might begin to wonder how so much pre and power amp functionality can fit into one integrated package. Simply, the A-5VL was crafted with energy efficiency in mind. Since it produces much less power than your typical amplifier, the heat sink in the design was molded much smaller than in previous models. This less for more scenario leaves more room for audiophile-grade parts, like audio-tuned capacitors and low-impedance copper bus plates.
The unit also includes the company's proprietary VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) technology. When data is converted between sampling points, these points are then joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce smooth output waveforms. It is also compatible with Onkyo's optional RI (remote interactive) Docks for the iPod, which allows you to control playback of your iPod via the amplifier's remote controller. Due to the high efficiency of its design, the A-5VL produces remarkably little heat production or distortion, thus enabling each channel to output exceptional sound quality, and clarity in every audible detail.

Comments about Onkyo A-5VL Integrated Amplifier (Black):
First of all I realy love this amp. I run it with KEF IQ30 with crossovers modified to
XQ20. The amp itself has enaugh energy to deliver 100db measured with SPL C weighted 8ft from the speakers at amp half power in room 16x16 ft. I like its super dynamic and awesome separation, very wide and deep sound stage but... with other than onboard DAC. I used Dacmagic and modified Fiio D3 with superior resoults. A5vl+Dacmsgic is a blast at this price range. $30 fiio d3 with Analog Devices AD8656 op am is also nice but output is bit lower by 3dB. Onboard DAC is inclined to much in high freq area, prolonged listening can lead to fatigue. Another words you are gaining better mids and more pleasant highs with higer end external dacs. At this price point it is very highly recommended product.

Comments about Onkyo A-5VL Integrated Amplifier (Black):
It's much harder than it used to be to find a stereo integrated amplifier that includes a phono preamp. I was thrilled by the sound of this one, with surprisingly more separation and detail apparent through speakers or headphones.

Comments about Onkyo A-5VL Integrated Amplifier (Black):
This is a fantastic-sounding amp. At one time I was considering trying a tube amp, now I'm perfectly happy if this is my last amp ever bought. No regrets, the sound is warm, not digital or harsh. Very well made and classy looking. I also have the CS5VL CD player, a perfect match.

Comments about Onkyo A-5VL Integrated Amplifier (Black):
I am using this with a pair of Usher S 520 monitors and the sound is fantastic! I was worried that the amp would not drive the Ushers because they are 86db sensitivity but I can honestly say this is no problem. I have ownned NAD and Arcam 40 watt integrated amps and the Onkyo is by far the best especially considering the features.
