You might be surprised at how many photo assignments you can handle with a compact, lightweight monolight like the Impact Digital Monolight 400W/s (120VAC). It's got 400w/s of power in an easily transportable package, and light output that can be varied in 1/10 stop stages over a 4-stop range, accessible through the digital readout. The 100W modeling light can be coupled to the flash, getting brighter or dimmer to match the actual light output, or independently set to the level you want. The monolight accepts Bowens monolight reflectors and head accessories. It also has a limited Auto Dump function, firing the strobe when you reset to a different power level (so the strobe is automatically set to the correct setting for the next flash). A built-in optical slave allows the monolight to be triggered using another flash. Perfect for portraits, small still-lifes, and much more.

After reading reviews on this site about the 400w Impact kit with 2 softboxes, I felt very comfortable ordering even though I had really not heard much about this manufacturer before. I couldn't be happier right now. I have about 2000 cycles on them in just the first week and they are performing perfectly.
Lighting is very controllable and even, recycle time is fast, and the build quality is outstanding for the price. I would highly suggest this to anyone looking to build their first studio or even putting together a portable kit for on-site shoots since the kit has a bag.

This is an easy to use light that has a great output. I took it out of the box and was ready to use it right away. Great for new photographers still learning. It is a very affordable product. Just make sure you secure the light down while on the stand so it doesn't tip over.
