The Westcott Micro Apollo light modifier eliminates red-eye, brightens colors and softens harsh light from flash. The lightweight frame also functions as a gel holder. It is easy to install and remove, and tucks away into a corner of a camera bag.

Did not like this on the SB-600 due to the small size of the flash. With the SB-900 this softbox is excellent. Direct flash no problem (I leave the Nikon diffuser on) and really softens bounce flash for wide shots.
Folds completely flat goes everywhere. I used it in the delivery room when my last son was born. Great results. This will definitely go with me wherever I travel. Fits perfectly in those outer bag pockets that you never quite know what to put in them.
I mount using a Honl speedstrap around the speedlight. The assembly will move around if you push on it but it has never fallen off on me. Make the metal mounting tabs a little bigger (to accommodate a larger patch of velcro) and this is 5 stars.

I'm sure this works well from a lighting point of view but you will never get the chance since it won't mount properly. Here' why...
The velcro mounts on the softbox are planer but the sides of the speedflashes are angled. If "<" represents the angled sides of the flash (exaggerated, of course) and "|" represents the planar surface of one of the two metal tabs with preinstalled velcro, you can see that there will be only one linear flimsy velcro connection on either side of the speedflash...

The softbox sags under its own weight. I've chosen to keep the softbox with plans to design a better mount.

Easy to mount on flash. Makes the flash so soft and brings out great color on skin.

It doesn't produce the amount of diffused light i would like. I understand it's small and my expectations were probably just higher...i guess it's better than just shooting straight on without it...still better to just bounce off a white ceiling or wall!

Comments about Westcott Micro Apollo Softbox - 5 x 8" (13 x 20cm):
I bought this small box to use for a beach shoot where I knew it would likely be too windy for an umbrella. It did a great job of softening the light.
I use a Honl strap rather than ruining my flashes by putting sticky velcro on them directly. The box came with the soft velcro sides attached. I simply pulled those off and replaced them with 2 patches of the hooked sides that came with the box.
What I like about it is that it allows me to use a gel on the Honl strap vertically while attaching the box to the sides of the flash. It stayed on pretty firmly and that was a pleasant surprise.

Does a great job when I'm in a hurry. Softens flash and shadows. I use Micro Apollo with a LumiQuest Ultrastrap for my lens and it's really stable with less hassle.

Easy to use, very portable (folds up and fits in my camera bag), and rugged. I use mine with Nikon SB-700 speedlights and they work perfectly. Just the answer for portable and easy to use light diffusion.

Comments about Westcott Micro Apollo Softbox - 5 x 8" (13 x 20cm):
I bought this softbox to use at my DIY photo booth at my wedding reception a few weeks ago. I used this on a Canon 580 EX II flash mounted directly on top of my Canon 50D. I used a wide angle (10-22mm) EF-S lens and had my subjects just a few feet from the camera. The photos turned out great. Everyone was evenly lit and Micro Apollo prevented harsh shadows on my backdrop. The Micro Apollo worked perfectly in this scenario and I couldn't be happier with how the photos turned out.

Doing just what i expected it to. Folds flat and stores nicely in the bag, and sits securely on the flash. No detachable parts, the "cone" is held out by two metal brackets that is secured to the side of the flash head with velcro. Works well.

I used the softbox at a band practice with terrible basement lighting and it did a great job diffusing my flash and helping to even it out. It also packs away very nicely.

Installs just like it says. I use it as a stopgap for when I have to use my flash pointing directly at my subject. Never the best way, but the softbox helps with the harshness (along with rear sync). I'd recomend

Comments about Westcott Micro Apollo Softbox - 5 x 8" (13 x 20cm):
I hate to use on camera flash because of the harsh flair of the flash. With the soft box the photos turned out beautifully. As a matter of fact I didn't even use it with the added flash, I just hung it on the camera over the built in flash and the outcome was incredible, this is just what I have been looking for to take good photographs.

Comments about Westcott Micro Apollo Softbox - 5 x 8" (13 x 20cm):
Don't expect a big softbox look from this. It's better than harsh direct flash, but not by much. Combine the minor improvement with the decreased flash output and extra setup time, and I'm not even sure it's worth it. However, when you're outside at night without a bounce-wall this is still better than bare flash.
