Sanyo's VPC-CG102 Dual Camera is a budget-friendly way to capture 1920 x 1080 high def video and 14MP stills. This upright camcorder also features SDHC, SDXC, and Eye-Fi media compatibility, along with a mini HDMI output for one cable viewing of your footage on an HDTV, and other features like 12x Dual Range Zoom for video and 5x Optical Zoom for photo.

When it comes to shooting tools, the VPC-CG102 has a 2.7" LCD that rotates up to 285 degrees. It also features a super-fast start-up, simultaneous video and still capture, and Object Chaser Technology. Image stabilization and Face Detection also come in handy for capturing focused video with less noise and blur.

MPEG4 AVC/H.264 Video Compression
This feature optimizes the file size and makes sharing movies on social networking sites, or emailing them to friends and family, easy
SDXC Memory Compatibility
While the CG102 works with standard SD memory, and more high capacity SDHC memory cards, it is also fully compatible with the next generation SDXC memory cards. The CG102 can record more than 64GB of content to SDXC memory cards. This dramatically improves your ability to record and transfer hours and hours of Full HD 1080 videos to a computer. You can also play CG102 Full HD 1080 videos stored on SDXC cards on your high definition TV
Eye-Fi Compatibility
The CG102 features enhanced Eye-Fi compatibility. This Dual Camera will automatically recognize the Eye-Fi wireless SD card when it is inserted. The CG102 also has "smart power" on board which allows the cameras to control the Eye-Fi function and provide power management, automatically shutting the card off when not in use
12x Dual Range Zoom and 5x Optical Zoom
While the CG102 is quite small in size, it features a 12x Dual Range Zoom for video. With Sanyo's 12x Dual Range Zoom Technology the field of view is dramatically increased. The photo zoom capability is 5x Optical Zoom
2.7" LCD Screen
The display flips out from the camera and rotates up to 285 degrees on an axis that allows you to take great video or still images from otherwise-difficult-to-view positions, proving to be especially useful when shooting in confined spaces
14MP Still Image Quality
In addition to HD 1080 Video the CG102 captures amazing 14 megapixel photos
Video and Photo Image Stabilizer
The CG102 features a new photo stabilizer. This technology actually takes two photos at the same time; one at a faster shutter speed and one at a slower shutter speed. The camera combines the benefits of both of the shutter speeds, resulting in an image that has less blur and less noise

Using a proprietary Sanyo algorithm, the CG102 automatically compensates for distracting up-and-down or side-to-side camera movement, keeping your video and photo subjects steady and easy to follow. It accurately distinguishes between unintentional camera shake and deliberate camera movement. This handy feature operates in both wide-angle and telephoto modes

Capture Still Images While You're Shooting Video
The CG102 enables simultaneous shooting of video clips and still images with a simple press of the shutter button during the shooting of a movie clip. You will never need to miss another precious photo opportunity 1
High Speed Sequential Photo Mode
This camera features a sequential "photo" shooting mode. When the user selects this mode the camera will take multiple photos in sequential order; providing multiple photos frames. The perfect solution for action photography
Video and Photo Face Detection
The CG102 utilizes specialized video and photo face detection technology. This feature recognizes multiple subjects' faces and optimizes focus/aperture settings to ensure each individual is in focus
Easy Playback of Recorded Video Directly on a TV
The CG102 camera features a mini-HDMI output which makes connecting it to a Digital TV or DVD Recorder a breeze. The CG102 can also easily be connected to a computer to back-up copies of recorded content via the handy USB 2.0 connection. Still images and video clips are played back continuously and in chronological order. When connected to a PC, simple drag-and-drop operation makes it easy to save recorded video clips and still images onto a computer's hard disk for emailing, editing or archiving
Super-Fast Start-Up
Reduce your chance of missing the perfect shot. The Dual Camera CG102 is designed for super fast start-up and shooting. With its tapeless design, the CG102 eliminates the need to queue up a video tape, allowing it to begin shooting in as little as 1.7 seconds. When the CG102 is powered on, closing the LCD display puts it in standby mode. Simply open the display and the CG102 automatically powers up and can begin immediately recording in as little as 1.7 seconds
High Capacity Lithium-Ion Battery
The DB-L80 is a high capacity battery designed to work with the Sanyo Dual Camera CG102 camera and delivers approximately 70 minutes of video record time. High-energy density design minimizes the battery size and weight, making it perfect for use in the CG102. It designed to resist memory accumulation so it provides a full charge every time
Object Chaser Technology
The CG102 is capable of "object chasing"; a feature which allows you to maintain proper lighting and focus on objects in motion. This is a great way to capture video of family members and pets on the move
Windows 7 Compatible
The CG102 is fully supported by the latest Windows OS, "Windows 7", further expanding its capabilities. The video files are displayed in the same thumbnail format as still picture files. They can also be played back directly with Windows Media Player, are editable with Windows Live Movie Maker, and are Device Stage compatible. This makes the files even more convenient for use on computers

Well, after fishing around for an about $200 camcorder for alternative ways of expressing my video art, I decided to get the VPC-CG102 Dual Camera by Sanyo. It shoots both high resolution photo and HD video.

Easy to handle and lots more functionality than "flip" and co. Impressed with the many manual options, e.g. ISO, white balance, aperture, shutter, focus. It also comes with programs for different uses. Big screen with good visibility in daylight.

Playing around with different settings helps to get an optimal outcome. Some users complained about low light quality, but given price, sensor, lens I am really happy, again choose right ISO, exposure etc. Tip: For photos / stills if you want to reduce the noise you get in low light situations and with higher ISO settings, omit from using the photo image stabilizer (decreases noise visibly).

The camcorder provides you with a different way of recording that a $1000 model or professional camcorder could not offer. One is more flexible, has a lighter instrument to carry around, saves time in postproduction. You will still get large files, so if you look for the quick party camcorder, posting short clips to youtube, the sanyo might not be the right thing. On the other hand you might have to pay the same or more money for a Shoot-and-Share camcorder like flip.

You will not find a microphone input or audio output for headphones. Also, you will need your own editing software.

Great for video art (if you believe it is you who makes the video not your high-end tool), pod casting, family memories, travel, self-recording

Overall the design and form factor are great.
Also, when you connect to USB of your computer, it can provide a range of services.
This camera is an example of a very good concept but, not so good quality.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-CG102 Dual Camera:

The overall look and feel of this camera is great. It's very easy to carry around in your pocket or backpack ect.
The 14MP stills is a huge bonus on this HD camera.
One down side is that you need to make sure to be using Class 6 SD cards or higher. Otherwise the HD recordings don't play/record so well when you download them to your computer or video editing software.
Also the feature to snap stills while shooting video is nice, but I've noticed that when you play the video there is a skip or split second freeze at the point where a picture was snapped. It could be because I was using a Class 4 SD card. They can't handle HD recording as well.
I love these cameras. Especially for the price!

Comments about Sanyo VPC-CG102 Dual Camera:

I bought this for the wife for the purpose that it was small so that she can fit it in her purse, easy to use and took great videos and pics.
We have two little boys, so obviously it's used mostly for family fun. The video is fantastic and clear and the 14M photos are excellent as expected.
Ignore the Cons of it not working well in low light, I have a Canon HV20 that a bought a few years ago, and it too is no good in low light. Unless you get an overhead light attachment for a camcorder, low light is as expected with many cameras.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-CG102 Dual Camera:

I was very disappointed that the viewing screen isn't perpendicular to the camera. This means when the camera is aimed correctly at the target, the screen position is angled towards the ground. Since this is the only way to view what is being recorded, the tendency is to shift the screen so viewing is oriented correctly...which makes the recorded image crooked!

I also had a problem with the recorded video having small breaks during recording that make it jumpy. I'm returning this unit in the hopes it is just a defect.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-CG102 Dual Camera:

I bought this for one reason, lack of bulk. No one that's not being paid wants to carry the HD video camera, lenses, and DSLR everywhere they go.

At the same time, if the product of a compact video camera is unwatchable, you'll never use it.

I'll be using this very often.

I'm always called a video snob, so I don't say this lightly. The video quality is surprisingly good. It certainly couldn't replace my much larger Sony, but to say the audio and video are acceptable would definitely be an understatement. You will want plenty of light.

Snapshots are PAINFULLY slow. Though they also look very good, you should expect the subject's final facial expression to be radically different from what it was at the time you pressed the shutter button.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-CG102 Dual Camera:

I purchased this camera to make high quality videos of my children to share on Facebook and other digital mediums. It meets my expectations for quality although videos shot in low light tend to be noisy. It is small and fits easily in a pocket making it much more portable than a palm held camcorder. The zoom range is nice for the price as well. The sound is better than I anticipated. I took some video at a basketball game and was able to understand the public address announcer quite well. The negatives are battery life. Be sure to have an extra or a fully charged battery when you are ready to use this little camera.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-CG102 Dual Camera:

I'm using this video camera for research purposes. I'm taping the sessions of an experiment. The audio is clear and the video is very sharp, which makes the post hoc data collection a snap.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-CG102 Dual Camera:

Yes! I have the iPhone and the iPad. But this camera is something else. It is dual - camcorder and digital camera mixed into one product. It does take some time to learn but once you got it down the camera is powerful and takes awesome pictures and movies. At 14 megapixel pictures and outstanding HD videos, this little device makes doing both a snap. The quality is excellent and works on Windows and Macintosh. The iPhoto 11 recognized it immediately and works beautifully. The one thing that was scary is the thumbnail are fuzzy. But when you see the real picture or movie, it is sharp with clarity and crisp in colors. I highly recommend it. Great for traveling, blog videos, and for fun. I love it. You can not go wrong!

You don`t need the manual for this camcorder. Very easy to use menu system, and controls. The Video quality, especially outdoors is very good for this price range. Inside is good if you have sufficient light.Pick up a few spare batteries as battery life is not that good. The batteries are very cheap to buy online. Very pleased with this purchase so far,[...]
