Sanyo's VPC-CG102 Dual Camera is a budget-friendly way to capture 1920 x 1080 high def video and 14MP stills. This upright camcorder also features SDHC, SDXC, and Eye-Fi media compatibility, along with a mini HDMI output for one cable viewing of your footage on an HDTV, and other features like 12x Dual Range Zoom for video and 5x Optical Zoom for photo.
When it comes to shooting tools, the VPC-CG102 has a 2.7" LCD that rotates up to 285 degrees. It also features a super-fast start-up, simultaneous video and still capture, and Object Chaser Technology. Image stabilization and Face Detection also come in handy for capturing focused video with less noise and blur.
Using a proprietary Sanyo algorithm, the CG102 automatically compensates for distracting up-and-down or side-to-side camera movement, keeping your video and photo subjects steady and easy to follow. It accurately distinguishes between unintentional camera shake and deliberate camera movement. This handy feature operates in both wide-angle and telephoto modes

Well, after fishing around for an about $200 camcorder for alternative ways of expressing my video art, I decided to get the VPC-CG102 Dual Camera by Sanyo. It shoots both high resolution photo and HD video.
Easy to handle and lots more functionality than "flip" and co. Impressed with the many manual options, e.g. ISO, white balance, aperture, shutter, focus. It also comes with programs for different uses. Big screen with good visibility in daylight.
Playing around with different settings helps to get an optimal outcome. Some users complained about low light quality, but given price, sensor, lens I am really happy, again choose right ISO, exposure etc. Tip: For photos / stills if you want to reduce the noise you get in low light situations and with higher ISO settings, omit from using the photo image stabilizer (decreases noise visibly).
The camcorder provides you with a different way of recording that a $1000 model or professional camcorder could not offer. One is more flexible, has a lighter instrument to carry around, saves time in postproduction. You will still get large files, so if you look for the quick party camcorder, posting short clips to youtube, the sanyo might not be the right thing. On the other hand you might have to pay the same or more money for a Shoot-and-Share camcorder like flip.
You will not find a microphone input or audio output for headphones. Also, you will need your own editing software.
Great for video art (if you believe it is you who makes the video not your high-end tool), pod casting, family memories, travel, self-recording

Overall the design and form factor are great.
Also, when you connect to USB of your computer, it can provide a range of services.
This camera is an example of a very good concept but, not so good quality.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-CG102 Dual Camera:
The overall look and feel of this camera is great. It's very easy to carry around in your pocket or backpack ect.
The 14MP stills is a huge bonus on this HD camera.
One down side is that you need to make sure to be using Class 6 SD cards or higher. Otherwise the HD recordings don't play/record so well when you download them to your computer or video editing software.
Also the feature to snap stills while shooting video is nice, but I've noticed that when you play the video there is a skip or split second freeze at the point where a picture was snapped. It could be because I was using a Class 4 SD card. They can't handle HD recording as well.
I love these cameras. Especially for the price!

Comments about Sanyo VPC-CG102 Dual Camera:
I bought this for the wife for the purpose that it was small so that she can fit it in her purse, easy to use and took great videos and pics.
We have two little boys, so obviously it's used mostly for family fun. The video is fantastic and clear and the 14M photos are excellent as expected.
Ignore the Cons of it not working well in low light, I have a Canon HV20 that a bought a few years ago, and it too is no good in low light. Unless you get an overhead light attachment for a camcorder, low light is as expected with many cameras.

Great little camcorder. I am very impressed with the quality of the image and sound. It does struggle in low light tho.
Takes reasonable quality still photos, better than I was expecting.
A great deal for the price.

The rotating viewing screen makes it nice to get those special and hard-to-get angles. The extra zoom range helps too. But I admit, the low-light performance could be better.

Not the best camera, but good enough, for the price. Lots of features/functions, easy to use. Very small package. Purchased this camera for use in an underwater housing - Great total package.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-CG102 Dual Camera:
I was very disappointed that the viewing screen isn't perpendicular to the camera. This means when the camera is aimed correctly at the target, the screen position is angled towards the ground. Since this is the only way to view what is being recorded, the tendency is to shift the screen so viewing is oriented correctly...which makes the recorded image crooked!
I also had a problem with the recorded video having small breaks during recording that make it jumpy. I'm returning this unit in the hopes it is just a defect.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-CG102 Dual Camera:
I bought this for one reason, lack of bulk. No one that's not being paid wants to carry the HD video camera, lenses, and DSLR everywhere they go.
At the same time, if the product of a compact video camera is unwatchable, you'll never use it.
I'll be using this very often.
I'm always called a video snob, so I don't say this lightly. The video quality is surprisingly good. It certainly couldn't replace my much larger Sony, but to say the audio and video are acceptable would definitely be an understatement. You will want plenty of light.
Snapshots are PAINFULLY slow. Though they also look very good, you should expect the subject's final facial expression to be radically different from what it was at the time you pressed the shutter button.

The VPC-CG102 shape and size makes its portable so that I can take it with me anywhere. It allows me to take blur free high definition pictures and videos. I would prefer however if it had its own light for photos under dim light.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-CG102 Dual Camera:
I purchased this camera to make high quality videos of my children to share on Facebook and other digital mediums. It meets my expectations for quality although videos shot in low light tend to be noisy. It is small and fits easily in a pocket making it much more portable than a palm held camcorder. The zoom range is nice for the price as well. The sound is better than I anticipated. I took some video at a basketball game and was able to understand the public address announcer quite well. The negatives are battery life. Be sure to have an extra or a fully charged battery when you are ready to use this little camera.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-CG102 Dual Camera:
Yes! I have the iPhone and the iPad. But this camera is something else. It is dual - camcorder and digital camera mixed into one product. It does take some time to learn but once you got it down the camera is powerful and takes awesome pictures and movies. At 14 megapixel pictures and outstanding HD videos, this little device makes doing both a snap. The quality is excellent and works on Windows and Macintosh. The iPhoto 11 recognized it immediately and works beautifully. The one thing that was scary is the thumbnail are fuzzy. But when you see the real picture or movie, it is sharp with clarity and crisp in colors. I highly recommend it. Great for traveling, blog videos, and for fun. I love it. You can not go wrong!
