Rated 5 out of 5

I've been through so many cheap ball heads and always end up back with this one.....it's on my main tripod (Manfrotto) and this Joby never seems to weaken or wear out!

Works Great!

Paired with the Gorillapod it does exactly what I need.

question

What is the pan base diameter of this head?
Asked by: Leonid S.
Approximately 2 inches or 50mm. It will not handle a long zoom lens and may be insufficient for a heavy camera. It works all right with my Sony A7 and a 50mm macro, but it's not a top-level ball head.

question

does it work with the SLR Zoom gorillapod?
Asked by: Jaren S.
Yes. Moreover, this ball head works with any tripod that can receive a ball head with 1/4 or 3/8 screw hole. The adaptor is included. Note that the Gorilla pods have a 1/4 screw.

question

Will my Mefoto Arca Swiss quick release plate, like PU-60, be compatible on this ball head?
Asked by: Yufan Z.
The overall shape of the PU-60 plate will be a little different from the Joby Ballhead X plate, but the locking mechanism should be secure. The X head has an extra feature: a small retracting pin to avoid accidental sliding which may or may not work as intended with other Arca style plates. However, since it retracts fully out of the way, it won't clash and cause an incompatibility.

question

The Overview states it's easily interchangeable. It has a universal mounting plate which stays connected to your camera and slides into the Ballhead X for easy setup and quick interchangeability; switch between cameras in an instant. Does this have a quick-release then? How does it and how fast does the thread that's attached tot he DSLR un-mounts from the GorillaPod?
Asked by: Jimmy L.
Jimmy,If I am understanding your question correctly you are asking how quickly the mounting plate attaches to the camera or lens. There is a flip-up lever on the bottom of the plate so you do not need a screwdriver and it takes three 360 degree turns to fully attach the plate. If extreme speed is desired you could just buy more than one plate. This is not a tripod system that is going to hold a long heavy lens even if the lens has a tripod mount collar.
